Actually, there is a difference in HDMI cables, even though they are digital. Digital signals are not sharp 1's and 0's. When you start sending 1's and 0's very fast, they begin to look like waves. At a certain point, the digital signal will degrade and digital error artifacts will appear in your image.
Look at this test that Gizmodo posted, where some HDMI digital cables are shown to fail at real world resolutions.
Monster's cables actually transmitted the digital data better* and performed beyond their specs.
*Better: steeper transitions between 1's and 0's... poor cables had more gradual and smooth transitions between 1's and 0's. Ideal case would be a vertical transition between 1's and 0's.

How about selective health insurance? You get a check list of what you want to opt-in or opt-out of:...
[ ] Physical Injury - Legs ($0.05/mo.)
[x] Physical Injury - Kidney ($0.08/mo.)
etc..
[ ] Cancer - Lungs, trachea, etc.. ($0.80/mo.)
[ ] Cancer - Non-smoking related ($0.40/mo.)
etc...
If you're a non-smoker, you could probably save lots of money by just opting out for the Cancer - Lungs option. That way, no "healthy" person gets hurt by the cost of healing an "unhealthy" person without their consent. (Consent to be placed in the group of people who want to protect themselves from a particular ailment)
Lets make a similar math book for all the boys who aren't interested in math. It should feature GI Joe's using math to kill each other, aliens, and anything gross or violent.
This sounds like a great book. I would have loved it 15-20 years ago.
For the older boys lets throw in some soft core porn to get their eyes on the page
This sounds like a great book. I would love it right now.
If you market this idea and make some about solid state device theory, I'll buy one.:)
Lease or buy isn't important. What's important is that batteries become standardized. Recharge at home by all means, but when your car is running out of juice on a trip, you pull into a juice station, slide out the battery, slide in a recharged one, and slide your discharged one into a rack for recharging.
What do we do about old batteries? If I trade in my old battery that can only charge to 80% of its original capacity for a brand new battery, is that OK? Will the charging station only supply brand new batteries or an extensive stock of varying condition batteries to match with?
All that means is that we perfected our design sooner than the chimps did.
Once again, we prove our vast superiority over the monkeys!
I know you're joking, but I actually think this may have some truth to it.
Little variations in the environment (like temperature) will cause certain species of things to die off, while causing others to strive. But we have these brains that we can use to alter our local environment to suit our needs. We can make and wear clothes when it's cold, we can hide in the shade when it's hot. There are other animals that can probably do similar things, but when we're faced with a totally foreign challange, some of us will figure out how to overcome it. Then we can communicate the solution to others around us, and they will survive regardless of whether their genes favor the new environment or not.
So.. whether we evolve in the positive direction or not, we will manage to survive (as long at least one person figures out how, and communicates the solution).
Taiji, Japan, is the site of the annual ritual dolphin massacre in which fishermen drive pods of dolphins into shallow coves and stab them with spears. You should see it. It is quite a sight. The sea water turns red with blood, and the air is filled with the extraordinary sounds of screaming dolphins (they literally seem to scream).
Hmmm, what if these massacres in shallow coves make it favorable for dolphins to have these "vestigial" legs? Maybe all this massacering will bring about a new species of legged amphibious dolphin.
Might as well find the nearest hill where they live and save all the expense.
I think the point is that these disabled people will get to experience some of the hiking experience as well as seeing the summit.
I suppose they could also see the summit via some other means.. maybe by helicoptor? Or from space? Or in a picture?
Why do people bother to run a marathon? It's easier to drive.
Funny, these nano-probes seem to have no effect on MY brain. Clearly, the U.S. is behind all this and trying to stain the good name of North Korea. It's their democracy. It's just no good.
Please report to the Reprogramming and Nanoupdates in Pyong-Yang immediately. Long live Kim Jong Il!
"It is also another breakthrough application of nanotechnology, the emerging science of harnessing sub-microscopic organisms for everyday uses, like stain-resistant pants and transparent sunblock."
Does this seem suspiciously like the giant-brain episode of Futurama to anyone else?
It all started as an innocent attempt to record and catalog everything in the universe.. but the brains decided they had to destroy the universe right after it finished recording the last bit of data, so things would stop happening and new data would not have to be recorded.
Small, previously unheardof company in Nebraska claims rights to the process of "breathing in oxygen in order to sustain metabolism." Many people all over the world are potentially guilty of infringing upon this wide-ranging patent. The people of earth have not yet made a statement regarding the matter.
I think you mean the catbirdpig seat.
Thanks for the pickup tip. Next time I'm at a bar, I'll make sure all the girls know I have $5k audio cables. Man, I will be such a pimp. :)

Stewie: Estaaaaablishment, Estaaaablishment...
"THRIVE," not "STRIVE..." Doh... "PREVIEW," not "SUBMIT." Sorry.

Wait, so what's the point?
Don't be fooled, this technology was given to them by the Enterprise crew, who traded their knowledge of transparent aluminum for present day currency.
Langaliers. That is all.
The article keeps referring to these sensors as nanotechnology.. since when were 2-3 inch devices considered "nanotech?"

I approve. Keep up the good work, Japan.
Oh come on guys, his slashdot name is "Ralph Spoilsport."
:)
"SPOILSPORT!" I think that explains much.
Yes... until eventually you get thawed out by Morlock's and they eat you. That doesn't sound great at all.
What the deuce?
Half man, half machine.
Why with that technology, I could escape these wretched harridans!
Go, cyborg!
Actually, I thought the main character's name was Cornenlius.. (played by Edward Norton)

What? South Korea? Why on earth would South Korea EVER attack the U.S.?

BLOGS are the new trend?? I thought you said pogs... what am I supposed to do with all these now?
