  1. Re:My guess is... on Garlic Farmer Wards Off High-Speed Internet · · Score: 1

Well that all depends on what type of vampires we're talking about here. Are we talking Marvel-style, where any sort of UV radiation will hurt them, or are we talking WoD-style, where it's a mystical quality of the sun that inflicts damage on them. Now, if it's the first one, he should be able to simply defend his mutant garlic farm with a series of UV lights placed at overlapping intervals. If it's the second one, I'd recommend he find a local Etherite or Virtual Adept cabal to set up some equivalent device, only instead of UV lights, you'd have to use a Correspondence effect (probably disciple level at least, more likely adept) to co-locate the sun's rays to the tower, so as to ward off vampires again.

Of course, with the increased radiation from the wi-fi tower AND the solar rays, this will probably cause the garlic to rapidly evolve into some advanced life form heretofore unseen.

I, for one, welcome our new mutant garlic overlords.

I doubt it would be very hard to have integral trade skills for survivors, i.e.- scavenging, security, various knowledges, etc. Knowing how to run a base that has an electrified fence with a few motion sensors off of a diesel generator you patched together seems like it would be a useful skill. I can only hope that this MMO, which is based on the MMO premise of my dreams, can live up to even a few expectations.

As for zombie skills, that might be a little more difficult, but they could take a little influence from Land of the Dead, where the zombies are able to develop some rudimentary communication. Perhaps you would see WTB [Brains], so that way your zombie could learn how to turn doorknobs or wield melee weapons. I admit that I see very little in the way of actual trade skills for zombies, but I don't really see that as hindering my fun when I'm gnawing people's brains out.

Sorry buddy, they're not launching with my two favorite (core) classes: druids and monks. That gets a big laaaaaame from me. Two words as to why the new Star Wars movies, at the very least, damaged my perceptions of the originals: Midi-chlorians. Ok, well one hyphenated word, then.

I know there are a lot of people who like them for whatever god-awful reason, but these things take the Force from being a mystical energy that surrounds and guides life and reduces it to something horribly similar to an abysmal anime. "Well my midi-chlorian count is over... TWO million! I have the power to go... SUPER-Jedi!"

Having said my peace as far as Star Wars goes, I'm also hoping that this movie won't be terrible, as I love the original. The plot so far doesn't sound promising: (FTFA) "Power of the Dark Crystal follows the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who, together with a Gelfling outcast, steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet."

Honestly, this sounds more like a job for Superman.

Actually, based on your views and the beliefs of the Mormon church, it would make more sense for them to distribute it as freely as possible. If they were short-sighted and just wanted to make a quick buck, sure they could sell it for as much as they can, however, I'd have to give such a quickly growing faith a little more credit than that. If the Mormon church were to become known as the religion that cured AIDS, that would likely bring untold amounts of people into their fold, boosting donations and creating more revenue in the long run. Of course, I don't believe that that would be their primary motivation. A large part of the Mormon faith is the whole "be fruitful and multiply" thing, and from the way I understand it, this is because they believe that unborn souls need to be brought to the earth before Armageddon or whatever. So, if they were to eliminate AIDS, this would eliminate a large obstacle for their faith. Then again, this is just speculating on yet another wonder drug that'll probably amount to little more than snake oil. And if my views on the Mormon church are wrong, it's because I'm not Mormon, but I am one of thirty-two (first) cousins, and I've received a handful of well-intentioned preachings over the years that have possibly mutated. But I think I'm probably close enough.

  20. Re:Serenity on Independents Push For Second Firefly Season · · Score: 2, Interesting

Your points are valid, and I think a lot of the trouble with the two-dimensional characterization comes from trying to cram a finale to Firefly into a two-hour movie. Like a previous poster said, we learned all we could about Book's past, saw what was up with River, the Alliance, the Reavers, etc. That's a lot of wrapping up to do in addition to introducing the 'verse and the cast to people that hadn't seen the series. When I heard about the Firefly movie, I had mixed feelings, because I was certain this would be the case, but I still wanted more. Intravenously, if possible. (Sorta spoiler ahead. As if you haven't already seen the movie seven times anyway.) Also, the scene with River where she goes all "River the Reaver Slayer" did seem a bit silly. I fully expected her to die and felt that it would have been a fitting way for her character to go out: protecting her brother and the crew that has sheltered her.

Find a friend that owns the series, or rent the first disc from your local video store, and watch the first episode. From what it sounds like, you probably just got thrust right into the middle of the entire thing, and it's a series that really requires being viewed in order. That's actually a huge part of why it was cancelled, Fox, in all of their wisdom, decided to air the second episode first. From what I've been told, it's because the first episode was "too long." Seriously though, Firefly is well worth watching, and my friends still pester me to borrow my discs when they find someone that hasn't seen the entire series yet. I strongly doubt you will be disappointed, and if Firefly had been allowed to run for its entirety, it could have easily been in the top five, if not the top spot. Now find a brown coat and start watching those episodes!
