Regardless of whether the musician is getting paid a large or small percentage of a CD sale, theft is still theft. I don't care if the band gets $10.00 of a $18.00 Cd or $0.05 of that same CD.
The Record Industry acting without any morals is no excuse for us to do the same. How are we any better than they are if we behaive the same way they do?
I get enough KLEZ virus infected emails every 24 hours to shut my email account down at my ISP if I don't clean out my mailbox every 24 hours. About 20% of them say they are from me, which is not possible as I do not use OutLook, nor do I even have it isntalled on my system.
I have MP3s on the hard drive of my workstation. They are not shared, nor are they streamed. They are all from CDs that I own.
I can see that an employer would get their panties in a twist ove MP3 servers on company LANs, and well they should. I also know that I am much more productive if I have music playing.
YOU can mod the XBOX you bought all you want. Rip the guts out and put them in a PC case. Put the guts into a child's training toilet if you so desire. Plug anything you want into the the ports if you like. Whack like hell with a soldering iron!
What you can NOT do is make mods that violate Microsoft's IP available to others. Not for sale. Not for free. Not at all.
And when all those AOL/Longhorn/Noob! users, which account for better than 60% of the computer users, can no longer shop at thier onlibne stores they'll stave to death until they "upgrade" to a Palladium-okayed system.
Never forget that over 90% of all Internet "users" surf with Internet Explorer. When IE stops talking to non-Palladium sites, thos sites are screwed.
But what choice do they have? You can't buy the older, more stable versions of ANYTHING anymore. As soon as the "New! Improved! Now Shaves Your Cat!" version of QuickPr0n Plus hits the shelves, the older, patched, and reasonably stabalized version of QuickPr0n Plus has been yanked and is no longer for sale.
How many people who got computers with WinME on them really wanted ME and hiow many simply had no choice?
This even holds true with Linux and other Oopen Source/Free software. Many times only the newest versions are available without hunting high and low for a forgotten mirror that has last year's model on it.
Laugh. Those are install date tags. Their placement means nothing. And why should they? The military already knows the whereabouts of anything they might need or be concerned about. Some people just need a life that is more exciting and dangerous than the real thing, but in a non-threatening way.
I should care about the state of radiio these days, but I don't. I gave up in dispair about nine years ago. I neveer listen to the radio anymore. My receiver has no antenna on it, niether does the radio tuner in my Hauppage card, nor any other radio-able device in my house (save for one boom-box).
Radio is a wasteland of banal crap stepped on by idiot DJs that think I give a shit about what lame jokes they want to tell while I'm trying to listen to music.
I long for the days of Album Oriented radio, or old-school FM radio where the DJ told you what you had just listened to, told you what you were about to listen to and then shut the hell up BEFORE starting the next song!
Shit, I'd just like to have some variety on the radio! Every station plays the exact same songs as every other within it's target demographic. You never hear anything different. It's really sad when the one song they play by Artist X is the worst song on the CD it was on.
It's really sad. I used to listen to the radio about nine hours a day. Now, I don't bother unless the local NPR station is covering a local event (like the Alaska Folk Festival).
I don't want my computer to keep track of what I do! I've turned off as many "what you recently did" things as I can. Hell, I clear my browser cache every two days!
And just what kind of other high-tech protective gear will you have to wear with your robocup 2002? Bionic shinguard X-3? Superconducting supporter J-12? Titanium shoulder pads?
No offence, and I do not intend this as a troll, but WTF? As a survivir of the great BattleStar Galactica "frack off", I can tell you first-hand that swearing in "Sci-Fi"-onese will destroy your chances of ever getting a date.
CoOp mode has virtually disapeared from the scene due to the additional programming and design requirements needed for it in regards to scripted in game segments. All scripted segments would have to be designed to accomodate X number of players. This adds a level of complexity that many developers do want to deal with.
DOOM/DOOM2 had CoOp due to the total lack of any scripted scenes, and the very simple designs of the game itself. But even in DOOM/DOOM2 there were problems with CoOp: having to l;ocate alll those keys after you respawn, getting weapons, getting trapped behind traps designed to keep the player(s) on one side of a door, etc...
CoOp play will return in the furture. But it's going to take a large change in the design structures of games as well as advancements in AI and scripting languages to properly support it.
I, too, miss CoOp, but I understand the reasons that it has been lost.
There is a simpler explination for Spider-Man kicking AoTC's butt: AoTC is a piece of garbage. Lucas has shot himself in both feet with the last two movies and it is the strong power of denial that keeps the diehard fans from realizing this.
With "Menace" and "Clones" Lucas has exposed himself as the untalented control freak that he really is.
The music and television industries DO see these activities as piracy. Broadcasters have tried on several occasions to get VCRs and cassette tapes banned outright. The US Governemnt declared that taping broadcasts for personal use is covered under the Fair Use doctrine and that the broadcasters needed to STFU. You can bet your testicles that if the Government had not sided with Joe Consumer on this issue that home-taping would be a criminal offense.
I don't read pop-* ads anyway. I close them (should the occure) without pyaing any attention to what they say. And I certainly do not purchase products sold by these ads. I don't think many people do, either.
While many people do enjoy The Sims "Out of The Box", many people are aloways adding to the game. My humble Sims Site delivers 2.6GB of data a day, most of that as downloads. The fact that The Sims is expandable is what gives it legs.
Flaimbait my hairy ass! The truth isn't always pleasant.

Did I have a point? If so, I think I lost it.
If Taco allows it tp be posted here, it's a Slashdot topic. It's his playground, afterall.
And John will be missed.

Klerck, the joke has grown old and stale. How about a new schtick?
It looks like they ignored your pettition! HAR-HAR!

How does this effect... Al Frankin?

When will the madness end?

Who picked the winners? 13-year olds?

I, for one, have washed my hands of him.
What youi are missing is the concept of "control". If I paid for it, it's mine. And it's control belongs only to me.
Guess I won't bother buying a TiVo, as much as my wife wants one.
Except that these are not self-controlled. There are pilots, but they are back on the base. The danger would end the minute they took Burpleson AFB.
"You can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"
Patch this up to The Sims and get yourself a Vibromatic Bed and have some serious fun!
Freaks!
