Alpha Centauri is a great game indeed. In fact, I played it again time after time even years after I originally bought it. Unlike many games, it shines on gameplay and atmosphere and those are timeless, so it's not a surprise that it is on the "replay list" of many players. Firaxis had a trend in the last few years of remaking old games ("Pirates!", "Sid Meier's Railroad!"). Any sequel would have an hard time surpassing SMAC in terms of replayability, gameplay, atmosphere and overall quality.

Actually you've reminded me a Sliders episode where they travel to a world where Microsoft collapsed, triggering a Mexican invasion... So there you go.

Just one question - how are you going to handle controlling those ("virtual") machines? That motherboard might have 8 outputs, but it only has one keyboard/mouse. He mentioned using USB Hubs whenever possible so i'm gussing he is a usb hub(s) for I/O, and thats enough for 8 keyboards + 8 mouses. I think a better idea would be to use some kind of wireless input devices (perhaps using Bluetooth). More pricey, but beats routing usb cables all over your house (Not to mention that you may need more USB hubs for signal amplification and thats pricey too).

I'm sure you've seen the video of Morrowind's main quest being beaten in about 10 minutes.
I've heard of this video before but was unable to find it. Anybody has a link?
If the price is right it might be good as an e-book reader. Many times I would like to read an e-book or just finish reading some long article/RSS feed in the toilet room/bus/train etc.
You don't need a full fledged expensive laptop for that. Not only that, but the laptop's form-factor is not comfortable in all the aforementioned situtaions.

If you're in the UI design business you might want to take a look at the site EVEN if not for the article
Now its reminds me of that kid in school who got way too excited about something and couldn't stop talking about it.
You must be new here.
But does he run linux?
Oh wait...
I didn't bat an eyelid, and totally expected this from my government, until I got to the comments reminding me that it was April Fools Day
For me the eyes-burning pink-colored css-styled atrocity that is today's main page was kind of a giveaway.
That probably explains the lack of real plot in the new movies
Everybody>/b> knows that the real reason for lack of miracles is the decline of pirates... I mean, SHEESH.

My current favorite is apple's xsan, because it is really inexpensive, and so is the hardware.
Your definition of Apple is different that mine.

Something like this T-Shirt and this bumper sticker?
One million shames on you, Slashdot.
Well, isn't that equals to one mega shames on slashdot?
