From what I gather if you have a trademark and don't fight infringements you lose the trademark. I can understand why companies do sue over trademark infringements especially if they have put a lot of money into it.
Although Ottawa keeps calling themselves it I have always said that since Nortel and JDS were keeping the high tech alive hear that the other places were probably more justified in calling themselves it as there are more large companies with real campuses compared to a building in a business park elsewhere than here
Here's something to ponder. What are the laws about changing the VIN on your car? Sure you bought the car and technically it is yours but I think if you went and modified it the DMV may have some issues with it if not your insurance company.
I know a tech at Nortel who is still working there. He has been offered jobs elsewhere but has refused to move cause at least there he is nearer to the top of the pile while going elsewhere he could end up at the bottom thus making his job security a little worse
*Special note: Keep old phones for emergency. Even a disconnected one can still dial 9-1-1
Maybe in the states but AFAIK Bell Mobility in Canada doesn't. I had a phone that had no minutes on it (it was configured as a Pay as you go therefore I figure it would more likely than a disconnected one) and tried to use it for 911 (accident on side of road) and it didn't work
True Unions can be a bad thing in a highly competitive market. But right now if you are working you have the potential of being axed with absolutely no regard of performance. Ask some of the people at Corel who got let go 2 weeks back. I was always against unions in IT but from what I have seen in the last 2 years, it may be time for it to happen.
Actually you bring up a good point. I want to get a copy of Dawn of the Dead Director's cut, almost bought it one week at Chapters but didn't have enough money it was $35 and was gone the next week. Now it has been discontinued and is selling on ebay for $108US. Do you think I am going to spend that much? Not a chance.
Granted this case was a signed copy which is great for collectors but I just wanted a copy as it is one of those movies that I like to revisit once in a while.
Now the question is how much do you think pirating is affecting the online bidding for rare movies that have been discontinued. Probably not as much as new releases which still is pretty minimal.
Back when everyone was going nuts hiring (remember then?) Cisco had a link on their recruiting page that would link to the top 10 things an effective employee does

Please note this is supposed to be a joke (maybe not a good one but humour nevertheless)
The housing market is about to start to feel it. The problem why it hasn't yet is there needs to be a reason to move from Ottawa but the job market is not much better. Key is finding a city where neither Nortel and JDS did not have an office. Since they basically grew so fast and then lopped off all those people they are the ones you contend with. Nortel was so bad with expansion in Ottawa we used to make the joke of them being the high-tech Starbucks since there was a campus on every corner.
You may be right that this isn't directly ATI's fault but remember that this is the second time that ATI has been blamed for breaking NDAs (Apple's new Imac) in some way or another.
Somebody has already (well mostly) done it. It's called Bart's boot disk it uses Caldera's Dos and is modular. Also gives great documentation on how to make your own files. Only problem, uses.cab files for compression. And isn't *nix based.
I do agree that someone talking in a normal voice is fine. But as someone posted earlier most people on cell phones have a tendency of speaking quite loudly. (why don't cell phone manufacturers make cell phone mikes more sensitive) but it is more the ringing. Common rule should be in a restaurant put it on vibrate, you might enjoy it:)
I hate people who are on the phone in Restaurants. Not so much the talking just the incessant ringing.
What I find funny are the people who I usually see in restaurants are one's who don't really need the ability to be contacted like doctors, or on call people.
As someone who has to carry a cell around, I embrace the opportunities where I can turn it off. Before I had one I thought it would be great that people would be able to contact me. Now it's almost like a leash that is difficult to get away from.
I think this is a case of where they are abusing their monopoly situation. I think they realize that companies are planning on moving to Linux from Windows and that if they can placate the masses with more accessible file formats for their Office suite with XML, then since it works only with their OS (especially with the SQL database that is going to be incorporated) then it makes it more difficult for users to move.
is they say how easy it is to import into Outlook and Outlook Express from other programs. One thing that is funny is how uneasy it is to import from a previous version of Outlook Express if you haven't already exported. I had a situation that a machine running 98SE had died and the user wanted XP. Well we copied all of the files off his hard drive and tried to import Outlook Express files into Outlook. Nope no option for that.
Also notice how I said it wasn't easy not impossible.
Actually Canada has similar laws (ontario at least). I used to get called once a month by both the Ottawa Sun and Ottawa Citizen asking if I wanted to get a subscription. I told them to take me off their list. Haven't been called since.
I bought one for my wife as a surprise gift. I got it off of Ebay from a guy who sells refurbed units. It was a total of $109 CDN. The catch is twofold; it only has 32M which is expandable to 128M with MMC cards and the warranty was only 3 months. She can fit about 45 minutes on it with 64bit wma which she finds fine but I usually borrow it and use 96bit. It will do MP3 but storage space is less. The only thing I really don't like about it is that the headphones are tinny. I usually bring my Sony ones and then it sounds fine. Also calling Rio you can get the nifty armband. My wife ended up putting on a strap for the bottom of the unit because the unit flops on the band. Otherwise she loves it.

Please mod the parent up as he, like Amnesty International, is trying to stop the abuse of the English Language by using awareness!
Moderators please note this is an attempt at humor (maybe failing) If you don't like don't mod up
It'd be cool to use my hand instead of a mouse for surfing the web

Well you must be hitting the wrong sites if you aren't already

Wouldn't this be considered a monopolistic behavior where they are using their power in an abusive way?
It would be nice if they straightened out who can call themselves Silicon Valley North; Calgary, Ottawa, Seattle, Portland or Markham (Toronto)?

Guy I know got let go today. He said the actual count was 270. Sounds like they may be playing with the numbers to make it sound less traumatic.
Course this is secondhand knowledge that is not substantiated
Isn't O-Town on J Records? Great one more good reason not to buy their cd :)

Check on google for it.

Don't know if this makes sense....

let's make it so you can't back it up with simple file copy operations
Sure you can copy user.dat and system.dat from Windows directory. (Course this is 9x) Haven't looked in XP/2000 but assume it is there in some format
