I work with about 25 Windows Servers and 4 Linux servers. They all work fine. I never have to reboot unless I apply a patch or something that requires it.
But regardless of the reboot, it's good to watch over the hardware that runs the servers. It's generally a good idea to make sure all the servers have green lights. Ensure there are no drive failures, check disk space, check the SANS for failed drives, etc....
It sucks because they try to squeeze the resources they have now but don't feel like dishing out the money to hire more talent. Then they wonder why the things that get done take so long, or why we can't handle all the silly requests our execs give us. They would rather spend that money on some useless project that will never get done, or benefit the company./Network Admin
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that in the event of a Cyber Terrorist attack, terrible things can happen.
But I view the two events differently.
Where one event you have a building taken down by a plane controlled by a terrorist...
The second...loss of contact with ground control. But don't you think they have some kind of protocol dealing with this? While no one dies immediatly from this attack, this still leaves control in the hands of the captain.
I just don't see how something occurring over the internet could amount to the actual death and destruction caused by the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
I think a lot of this has to do with the price of death.
When you die, you loose your ship and that can hurt a lot. This causes players to think more before they act. It offeres a bit of suspense when one gets into a battle. No other game has this, and if the death system was not the way it was then EVE would crumble.
If you die and get your ship back for free, what's the point?
I think a lot of the user created images are just to dark.
Seriously it shouldn't be pitch black 5 feet away from your character. Some of those images were just over done. However I do think the rainbow in that one image in the article is a bit cheesy....
For starters, why would you want to change the earth's orbit?
On top of that, if you change the earth's orbit then you change the impact risks of other asteroids.
Perhaps if things started getting a tad hot, you could always push the earth a tad away from the sun to cool things off, and likewise when things get a bit cold, but again I'd think that modifying the earth's orbit might not be the best idea.
You know...I know your joking, but even if we were to send someone over there, at 20 light years away, the amount of time it would take to receive the transmitted data would take a life time to get back. (Do communication waves travel the speed of light?)
It's hard to pirate something that authenticates your key. I'm not just talking WoW or anythign like that, but more so BF2 or other games that rely the end users to play online to get the full experience.
I know this doesn't help the whole gaming market, but still....
Also they complain so much about how people getting the game for free (Piracy) is hurting them...yet they just go to offer it free for everyone? How does that make sense?
You know, you may have been modded a troll, but you are right.
When are people going to stand up? When will they turn off American Idol and actually look at what's going on?
I have a feeling this won't happen anytime soon. A lot of the major news network won't cover the story, or will spin it to make American's think they are safer.
Most American's won't do any kind of real research on there own like through the internet, they expect to be hand feed the information over TV, and in this day and age, important information like this will never come across the news networks.
I think if American's knew what was going on behind the scenes, they would stand up, but it's getting people more involved and more informed.
Also any mod points I might have gotten will be surly brought back down after this next statement....
Yeah I tend to agree that I don't think our votes count. I'm sure there is plenty that goes on behind the scenes to ensure the proper person get's into office.
It's sad to think about....but what can we do? Writing senators all day doesn't seem to do the trick. (Obviously)
1. Create a bizzar application that does nothing
2. Gain some publicity by publishing on fark/digg/slashdot
3. ???
4. PROFIT!
Could not have said it better myself.
It's because it got so much publicity. If not for Digg or Fark, no one would have thought twice about it.
Keep telling yourself that kid.
Nice attempt at a troll but I'll bite.

I think the fear is more so of a Strangelet and a black hole.

Cyber 9/11? Give me a break....
On the real 9/11 thousands of innocent people lost their lives.
Nothing on the internet could amount to what happened that day. No amount of terrorism will ever stack up to a "Cyber 9/11"
Sorry it just pisses me off that people use that day so lightly...
That's why I can't stand people who call for WoW like death systems....Hurray...you loose durability. Big deal right?
It brings no strategy or suspense to battles.

The only Expo I would really care to watch on TV would be PAX. With the live shows and what not, I would think it would be very interesting.

You shouldn't be forced to buy a product from any 1 provider.
Take your money elsewhere to someone who can properly answer your questions.
It's these kinds of things that need to be avoided. "I'm not a satisfied customer, but I'm going to have to buy the product either way."
It appears their stocks have dropped 12% on this news.

I constantly purchase Dell computers for my work. They come with XP Pre-Installed but they also have a Vista license.
Now for a normal home user, this may be different, but I've had no problems at all.
Maybe it's for the kind of computer...I purchase Latitudes, and precision computers. If someone wanted an Inspirion it may be different.
All I have is a cell phone, no home phone.
If I don't know the number I don't pick it up...If it's important they will leave a message.
You publish something on the internet...but you get mad when it's exposed to others?
Uh huh...
Sounds like it's fine for Comcast to start sending some money to the FCC.
*sigh*
That or the RIAA is shelling out tons of money.
You forgot...Money buys people in America.
Online games have it the best.
