Most smartphones at this price are only offered with this kind of agreement, but yes, you're correct. The drop in price is nice, but not nice enough for me to consider upgrading until they lower monthly cost as well.
Ridiculous. There's no reason they can't start the computer up (either automatically from the BIOS or via wake-on-lan) for scheduled updates, and have it running when you get in to work, without any slowdowns.
Anyone else notice Charisma Carpenter (AKA Cordelia from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) in the commercial? If my PC looked like her, I might be more excited about using it.
YES! I hate this "feature". I thought I could fix it on my Nokia 6101 by using the lock/unlock feature, but holding the photo button down long enough overrides this. Stupid.
I think the point the parent was trying to make is that now that their CRT line is gone, there isn't a replacement technology to fill the same price point. Consumer's can no longer find a sub-$500 Sony TV.
I recently replaced my old 19" CRT monitor with a Samsung 19" CRT, but not before I looked at comparable LCDs.
I knew I wanted at least a 19" that was capable of displaying 1600x1200. I scoured NewEgg, but all I got were 19" LCDs with a native resolution of 1280x1024. I could put up with a lower resolution, but the fact that they all run at a non-4:3 resolution kills the deal for me. It just looks wrong.
In order to get 1600x1200, I would have had to buy at least a 20". And judging from the current prices at NewEgg, that's at least $600. So I went with the Samsung 997DF-T/T CRT monitor for $210. That's nearly a third of the cost for a flatscreen CRT with great colors and dotpitch.
LCDs are great, and had I $600+ to spend, I would have jumped at the chance. But for now, the cost difference is enough to make me stick with CRTs for now.
6. Why did you mess up the clean, crisp Google homepage?
We didn't. If you want to keep using the original Google homepage, you can. In fact, we expect that many users will. The personalized homepage is for those users who want to see more of the information that matters to them in the same place. You can always switch back and forth between your personalized homepage and the original Google homepage by clicking "Classic Home" or "Personalized Home."...
If you don't like it, don't use it. Google isn't going to make this their default page.
This is due to the philosophies behind the features included in both Opera and Firefox. Opera crams in everything useful they can think of (or at least, it appears that way), and Firefox includes only the features they feel everyone will benefit from to avoid bloat, while leaving the extensions up to others.
Now, I'm not saying Opera is bloated. It's just that the Firefox developers felt that the average user doesn't care about mouse gestures or quick prefs, or doesn't use the browser enough to care. Most Opera users I know started using it because of the extra features.
The big problem with extensions is they're never guaranteed to work with the current release, and some conflict with each other. Maybe the Mozilla team will come up with a package of "officially sanctioned" extensions guaranteed to work, but I doubt it. I'm sure they have their hands full working on the features in the next release.
Behold, the Underminer! I'm always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me! I hereby declare war on peace and happiness! Soon, all will tremble before me!
Got the trial version of DisKeeper (which is probably worth a purchase anyway, as it seems to perform better than Windows' defragger). Alternately you can get something like PageDefrag for free. Both of these will defrag your paging file, but DisKeeper allows you to place it at the beginning of a partition, allowing for faster access.
I first deleted all paging files and rebooted. This allowed me to start fresh. I followed these steps to setup my new paging file:
Figure out a permanent size for your paging file. I recommend having 2gigs of memory (RAM + paging) for Windows XP. I have 1 gig of RAM, so I figured 1024MB was good (as the article says, you should probably determine what your maximum load is and then choose a size). Allowing the paging file to grow and shrink will always introduce fragmentation.
If possible, put the paging file on a separate disk than the one Windows is installed on. This will reduce head movement on the system disk and decrease access time for the paging file.
If you're using DisKeeper, have it place the paging file at the beginning of the partition. Again, this should reduce access time.
I followed the instructions in the XP Tweaking Companion guide. It's a nice all-around guide for optimizing XP.
God fucking dammit. I'm sick of people accusing Lucas of being a serial rapist. I got over the fact that nothing is as good as one remembers it, including Star Wars, and you can too.
The article should have been entitled "Building a Quiet, Air-Cooled System". Running a PC always involves heat, and their must always be a mechanism for removing that heat. The more passive cooling devices you have in your machine, the more heat needs to be removed from the case quickly. Granted you could run a system that doesn't create a lot of heat, but today's high-powered PCs normally do. Water cooling can certainly be quieter than air cooling, but it still isn't completely silent (yet?).
I suggest you take a look at Samsung's SpinPoint drives. They're all the rage with Quiet PC enthusiasts (such as those at Silent PC Review). Barracuda's are quiet (I've got two V's right now), but they're certainly still audible, especially as they get older and the bearings wear. Apparently SpinPoints are quieter than Barracudas (at least initially).
RPG? Maybe, I played in the open beta and all the new characters started with the best weapons and armor and some high level. You weren't really given a chance to role play, so I can't judge it there.
Notice you were playing during a beta. They forced people to start at level 15 so they could test higher level areas. True, they're trying to introduce people to the game, but their main purpose was to stress test their servers and see if the game scaled to tens of thousands of users.
In the (semi-)closed betas, you could choose to create a character from scratch or use a level 15 character. Again, they're trying to get a feel for what it will be like once the game goes live.
I've played Guild Wars during the World Preview Event and two of the Beta Weekends. All told, it's a great game, and combines the cooperation of MMORPGs with what I enjoyed about games like Neverwinter Nights and Diablo II.
Since the last Beta Weekend though, I've been playing World of Warcraft. Certainly WoW is more of an MMORPG in the traditional sense than Guild Wars, but it makes the same effort to ensure casual players get as much enjoyment out of it as hardcore players.
I'll still probably buy Guild Wars when it's released, but I think I'll skip the next Beta Weekend. I don't think I can split my interest between two RPGs just yet.
Yeah, like the other replier stated, they updated Source stuff as well. I was mightily pissed last night when my roommate was able to play but I wasn't. Looks like they issued a fix sometime last night, since I can play all Source games fine now.
Best use of barrels: Roll one down the ramp and watch the barnacle slowly drag it up. Give it a few shots and watch it explode, causing that oh-so-satisfying explosion sound as the barnacle gets what he deserves.
Personally, I think it's garbage too, but that doesn't mean I'm going to try to make a statement by not buying it.
As if Vivendi/Valve would listen to one non-customer's complaint and not millions of people who actually purchased the game. That attitude, dude, is also garbage.
Installing over the old version often works, but sometimes not.
If not, I usually save my plugins, delete the directory, install, then copy my plugins. My settings, bookmarks, and skins are all in my profile, and I haven't had to delete/recreate that in a while.
G4/TechTV had a poll for the worst video games ever, and Shenmue was near the top. Personally, I love the game, but I can understand the reason a lot of people don't. They're expecting a greater action/story ratio.
I like to think of Shenmue as a good mystery novel, whereas most video games are like an action movie. It's easy to enjoy an action movie, as there is (usually) not a complex plot to follow, and there are enough action sequences to keep you interested. A good novel is harder to get into than an action movie, but can be a lot more rewarding in the end.
Quadro is Nvidia's 3D card for businesses that do graphics work, but don't necessarily need all the horsepower of a gaming 3D card. I figured this out when I tried playing UT2004 on a Dell at work. They're cheaper, but for a reason.

Ah hah! Maybe next time I'll research further instead of instantly being turned off by the resolution.

As far as I know, both Jeri's boobs and her hair are real, or at least they were during Voyager. I heard she recently had a boob job though...

Yeah, and don't forget the cigarette burns/reel change markers. Thanks to Fight Club, I notice them all the time.
Wonder if they'll keep the recent addition of those damn red dot patterns to "thwart" pirates...
