It's possible to unintentionally encourage something when performing actions that contradict your statements, which is what he's doing by setting an unreasonably high price for his game.

What's reasonable is in the eye of the consumer. After playing the demo, what might be worth $28 to one person may not be to another. Games, like most entertainment media, have substitution value only before you consume it. "I want a D&B CD" demonstrates substitution value. "I want a Pendulum CD" does not.

You mentioned before you can get King's Bounty for $10. Obviously if you're just looking for a game to play on the cheap and they had similar game genres it would work out. But if you take price out of it, played honest demos* of both, you'll prefer one or the other and then when price comes back in it may either be a deal or a question of just how MUCH you preference is worth.

    * Some demos are disingenuous with cherry-picked gameplay and unrealistic situations. I've purchased a few XBox Live Arcade games that, past the demo play levels, were garbage.

On pricing too high, well, piracy is going to happen and eliminating it isn't going to make people pay that weren't already prepared to do so. Since the cost of making a game is the same no matter how many people actually play it (legally or otherwise), I'd say if the game is in the black despite rampant piracy then the price was set appropriately.

ActiveX isn't really secure... by interface contract. If they change things around behind the API layers to make it secure they, by contract, could break functionality.

And the dramedy with lazy programmer outcry with the transition from Windows 4 to 5 through even 6 (Cancel or Allow?) trying to make Windows secure only shows why Microsoft really painted themselves into a corner by insisting on maintaining full backwards compatibility.

If demand goes down fewer trees will be cut and hence fewer will be planted. The trees saved are those that would never have been planted. I mean, look, in today's age of free and plentiful piracy, the income of the RIAA member companies isn't zero. Think about it: how does that happen? There are some that find value in holding the genuine article. For them: great! I mean, I'm not real into music but I can see being real into a band or performer and outfitting my shelf with albums and paraphernalia. Except, oh, wait, those who actually PRODUCED the thing of value (the artist) gets only pennies compared to the lions share which goes straight into the recording industry's pockets. Now who's the leech upon others' work?

How many pirates would buy if they couldn't pirate? The RIAA would like to think 100%, so that's what their basing their losses on. Except that's just fiction. They're used to having a stranglehold over the industry... pricing things as high as they can get away with, telling artists that didn't agree to their terms to take a hike... just like a cartel.

I'm not saying artists shouldn't get paid, but look at the popular ones that make hundreds of millions of dollars. Switching from the Batch resolution system to GUTS was real scary, but looking back it's as intutive as it should be and I wish they had done it sooner. I appreciate all the card wording becoming consistant.

Legacy and Vintage are still valid formats where you don't have to get the latest and greatest... although a lot of old cards certainly could benefit in combos with modern spells. And you can still play like my friends and I do: unsanctioned, play it if you got it. It's still fun that way.

My biggest complaints with Magic actually have nothing to do with the game. I don't like that the art is no longer a clusterfuck of different artists and styles. It's all very homogeneous and planned out with stylesheets: very "corporate". That blur of art makes it tough for me to tell what things are from across a table. Also, the whole foil card thing makes me nervous since the card is worth a few times more what it's normally worth and I'm much more afraid than normal to play with it: card protector or not.
