Re:And WiFi doesn't "stand for" wireless fidelity.
Thank You... we need to drop this crappy HIFI type of mentality in the Wireless Network world. Unfortunely WiFi has stuck and we will have to wait until something new pushes it out. Same with WiMAX. WLAN is good but it does'nt roll off the tounge like WiFi.
We need something that is easy to say, means something, and is well known by the masses.
NetLink, NoWire, WiLap, WiWorld, ComNet, LapCell, InfoLink, LapRad, RadLink (yeah that's cool ;) ...
ok I'm done... anyway think about it and lets start a new wave of cool acronyms.

OpenOffice Calc uses up 211 MBs of private unsharable memory
http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?p=dict&S tring=exact&Acronym=MBS
So, Calc is using 211 Mass Broadcasting Systems? No no wait, that's 211 Millions of Bytes per Second.
That's fast! -
Re:Easier than Myth
What does "STB" mean?
Bachelor of Sacred Theology (religious order).
No, wait, that's not the most common, it's the first in alphabetical order. In this context, it stands for Set Top Box (VCR, cable box, other TV appliances). -
Campaign for Nuclear DisarmamentWhat is this "CND" shit? Who made that up?
Yes, Acronym Finder lists a number of meanings, none of which is "Canada". The first meaning that leapt to my mind was "Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament".
Canada's not such a long name to type anyway, now, is it?
If you want to use cutesy abbreviations, how about the ISO country code (CAN).
Usually a good idea, although be careful with the UK -- the ISO code is GB, but you might upset unionist Northern Irish if you use it.
See here:
The use of "GB" for "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" surprises some people. However, the United Kingdom and the Ukraine both wanted "UK" so rather than start World War III over the matter, the United Kingdom was assigned "GB" and the Ukraine was assigned "UA. -

Re:Stupidity
For F*** Sake..
Try Acronym Finder if you want to find out what stuff like that means!
Regarding pre releasing books making headline news, I agree with the GP, its a book, people who had intended to buy it are going to buy it anyway, people who hear about the "spoilers" if they ever do surface, will probably read it anyway to find out the context of where the spoilers occur. I mean how many stories exist where the villan wins? People usually expect how something will turn out, it is the path that you take to get to the answer that makes books exciting. -
Re:ViaGrafix vs. ViagraFixNIC can and often does stand for "Network Interface Card".
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3A+NI
C
- All relevant definitions are "Network Interface Card".http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?String=
e xact&Acronym=NIC
- First hit is "NIC - Network Interface Card (PC Ethernet network card)". "Network Interface Controller" doesn't even show up on the first 3 page.Hopefully that's enough, cause this issue really isn't worth any further research
;)I will agree that NIC can stand for Controller. However that is not relevant to my previous post as it was in the context of NIC standing for "Network Interface Card".

So, how would you like to find out what the acronym "COW" means then?
That's what Acronym Finder is for.
AF sort of functions like a wiki, too, by the way. -
Re:Distorted by techy stuff
Search for "cow" on wikipedia. Of course you will find a blurb that a cow is a female of the bovine family. It also says:
COW is also an acronym for copy-on-write, a technique in computer science
I mean come on! There are a zillion acronyms for the word cow.
Feel free to add the other

Re:Backing Away?Interestingly, SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface. Note the top hit. Whoever put the entry in saying Serial interface is an asshat who doesn't know what they're talking about - just like you. SCSI comes in three basic flavors: Narrow SCSI (which comes in normal (5MB/sec), fast (10MB/sec), and ultra (20MB/sec), Differential SCSI which I believe is 40MB/sec, and Low Voltage Differential SCSI, which comes in LVD (80MB/sec), Ultra160 (160MB/sec), and Ultra320 (320MB/sec) flavors. All of them are parallel; Narrow SCSI uses 8 lines for data and Wide uses 16 lines. All forms of SCSI run a ground in between each data wire in order to reduce noise.
In other words, you have no idea what you're talking about. Did you buy that UID, or did you just find slashdot early because you knew someone with a clue?

English better not be your native langugage
The correct spelling is "a lot" (two words). "Alot" means something else.
