Re:umm, excuse me, RIAA?t's not OK to share Metallica tunes! Have you heard their latest album? It's crap, and it's a waste of valuble bandwidth.
I bet making shitty music is their new plan to stop people from sharing it.

Angband is better!
Foolish cowards! Think your Nethack ascii is pretty cool, eh? Well, Angband has supported the Radeon 9500 ASC since it's initial release! Seriously, Angband is a MUCH better game, especially if you can hunt down a copy of AngbandTk. AngbandTK has the same INCREDIBLE gameplay, just with almost real graphics. Angband is based on Tolkien's books.

Woohoo!
Finally a worthy application for my Radeon 9500 ASC.

Don't forget those ones....

Graphics are nice, but gameplay is where it's at
Personally, I could care less if a game uses all the fancy features of a graphics card... if the game isn't fun, all the graphics in the world won't help it. At least ATI has a card with ASCII accelleration, heheh.
Seriously though, I used to have an ATI a while back, and eventually bought a GeForce2 MX mostly because it was supported in Linux. I completely expect this card to still be in my system 4 years from now, since I hardly ever use 3D acceleration. If I want video games, I have my Dreamcast. -

Evil integrated already?You can't remove evil from Windows, it's a feature of the Operating System. Kinda like Internet Explorer.
I guess Microsoft has made good on this earlier announcement?

Unfortunately, they've hardly taken advantage of the SCO comedy: SCO, the New Disease. I expected more.

Weak...20,000-volt shocks are so weak. Microsoft already stepped it up two years ago with their ActiveDeath technology. A quote from the, uh, press release:
"ActiveDeath" actually kills the player when their on-screen character dies through a lethal injection carefully hidden inside the large green circle on the controller surface.
"There's been a lot of investigation on how to involve the player in the game on a physical level," said Microsoft Research Director Greg Thorton, "We've seen vibrating controllers, controllers that administer a small electric shock, and so on. We thought, 'why not take this to the next level and go all the way?'"

Re:Best of all
My web host runs IIS, but I got them to switch me to a server with PHP support quite easily. I felt learning a cross-platform tool instead of ASP was more beneficial for me, since I also have an apache server. Can I do ASP on apache? I'm not sure I care to try to find out. I also found PHP easier to pick up than perl for some odd reason. Then again, if I couldn't read perl in high school, should I be surprised?

99.99% of High School Kids Can't Read PerlAccording to BBspot:
Test Shows 99.99% of High School Seniors Can't Read Perl
San Francisco, CA - Recent results from the standardized Perl Fluency Test showed that 99.99% of US high school seniors can't read Perl. This disturbing statistic shows that American students are painfully unprepared for life after graduation.
"This shows that there is a real need for a Perl Monk in every classroom," said Perl Monk Kelly Adrity. "We've got computers in every classroom, now we need our kids to be able to use them, and what better way to learn about computers than to learn how to read and write in Perl. I'm glad the budget proposed by President Bush sets aside millions for Perl Monks. America will lead the way in Perl literacy."
The four hour test had 2 sections, a simple translation section and a project section. The first part asked students to translate easy Perl phrases into their standard English equivalent, and the second section required students to produce a simple MP3 player in Perl. "I didn't know what the hell any of it meant," said one Senior, "it had lots of slashes and periods and brackets. It was so confusing. I'm feeling rather nauseous."
Perl experts were astounded by the results. "I was amazed that none of the students were able to read this simple sentence:
$_='while(read+STDIN,$_,2048){$a=29;$c=142;if((
@ a=unx"C*",$_)
[20]&48){$h=5;$_=unxb24,join"",@b=m ap{xB8,unxb8,ch r($_^$a[--$h+84])}
@ARGV;s/...$/1$&/;$d=unxV,xb25 ,$_;$b=73;$e=256|(or d$b[4])>8^($f=($t=255)&($d>>12^$d>>4^$d^$d/8))>8^( $t&
($g=($q=$e>>14&7^$e)^$q*8^$q>=8)+=$f+(~$g&$t) )for@ a[128..$#a]}print+x"C*",@a}';s/x/pack+/g;eval
I mean, come on, that's so easy," said Paul Chen, Chairman of the Learn Perl or Die Association, which administered the test nationwide. "Teachers need to start with simple phrases like $RF=~tr/A-Z/a-z/; and work up from there. We really need to start teaching this in first grade if kids are ever going to understand this by high school."
Not everyone shared Mr. Chen's view about the necessity of adding Perl to early elementary curricula. Programmers Against Perl (PAP) spokesperson, Keith Willingham said, "There's no better way to scare students away from computers than exposing them to Perl. Even experienced programmers are frightened and confused by it. The Perl lobby is just getting too powerful, and they need to be stopped." -
Re:So?!
I'm not impressed with the Radeon 9800 Pro. What I really want is the Radeon 9500 ASC [bbspot.com]. The price is steadily coming down. Mmmmm, I can't wait to play Nethack in full 3D
:-)
Had you read the article you're kind enough to quote there. The 9500 ASC does _NOT_ contain 3D accelerator, it contains an ASCII accelerator.
What this means is that Nethack on that baby will look good as ever and then some and thankfully no 3D. -

Re:Kidding yourself
it may very well be that fragmentation of the user base is necessary to keep the virus epidemic away from the Linux platform. Unfortunately, that's also what keeps users from Linux. Too much choice, too little information, and too much inaccurate or overly biased information (eg. "KDE is better than GNOME") also further divides the potential Linux converts into two camps: those who look further, and eventually find out what they want to know, and subsequently replace Windows (ie, about
.01% of people who "check Linux out") and the people who give up after trying to decide which distro to use - after all, there are more Linux distros than users now. -
