Chick tracts!
So do you ACs have any sources for this moon god stuff? Because the Wikipedia page for "Allah" says nothing about it.
Someone's been reading their Chick tracts...

Re:Total BS!Christianity is a relatively mature religion, which has past the age where its followers think that they should convince everyone else to join, and that they can achieve that (and other goals) by saying doom to anyone who is not in the club or has anything to say about it.
oh really?

Re:In other news...
The parent should be modded up to funny. Immediately I thought of Chick Tracts while watching the cartoon. It follows the pattern perfectly. An unsuspecting any-man gets tempted down the path towards evil, and then pays dearly for his sin. I expected some co-worker to come up and teach Chris that Jesus hates Randall because he downloads illegal software and that only by professing his love for The Lord will his corporate IT infrastructure be safe and secure once again.

Hire the pro Microsoft!
If you're going to make b&w comix warning of the evils and sins of "piracy", and eventual but certain punishment in a short booklet format, then there's only one man for the job!
I realize that hiring Jack Chick could be tricky, but I'm sure that the right arguments will succeed.

Audio interview with the books' authors
Brian Lehrer had the Left Behind authors, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, on his show November 27 to talk about the Left Behind series, their new book series, and the video game. Within the first 10 minutes, the authors clearly state that all non-believers will be slaughtered during the end times, including but not limited to Jews and Muslims. Their idea of not being biblical literalists is that they don't think Jesus will actually be mowing them down with a sword in his mouth. So, the game doesn't seem to stray too far from the authors' intents.
I think of myself as an antagnostic, my wife is a secular Jew, I live in New York, and I listen to the Devil's music, so I probably have every right to be offended by the books and the game, but I think they're funny in a campy way, similar to Jack Chick tracts. I'm going to pick up a used copy for my Satanist brother just to tweak him. I don't think the game should be banned any more than any other violent game, and it's good to know how all those Ned Flanders types really feel about the rest of us in their heart of hearts.
It got me to thinking that I should create my own spiritually inspired video game. It'll be a giant pray button that takes over the screen, and you can't minimize it or quit it. Why would you want to do anything else?

Re:Coming to America soon
harry potter is evil. Just like d&d. In all honesty, there are a ton of nutbags who make out everything to be evil. They're very insecure in their belief and think everything that offers a slightly different view is EBIL! MMO's or anything that have non-Christian's in them... are legitimate targets for these nutter butters.

Re:Just sick
I'm sorry, but how is this anything other than inflammatory, homophobic and just plain wrong?
The bible is a book of fairy stories. It's not real. Get that? Nobody goes around acting like Snow White or Little Red Riding Hood were real. When christians start acting like the bible is real, then they deserve whatever they get from Rational people. -
Not if one is correct
Not if one is correct and the others are wrong, since if one is correct it does not matter what all others think. Then only those that the correct faith say will go to hell will end up there.

Re:game X ruins lives: heard this before
btw, referencing D&D in this is the wrong game, D&D was never said to be something that will ruin your life
I beg to differ... It's not so popular now but back in the 80's when a) I was into D&D and b) Mazes and Monsters came
out people like this were everywhere! And this guy is jut one
example (albeit an extreme one).
My opinion then was that it's ridiculous to blame the game/manufacturer and as far as WoW is concerned my opinion hasn't changed. -

or read good 'ol Jack Chick. I have an original of this one - found it in a stack in a bathroom in the mid-80s:
http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.a sp - at the time I thought it was the funniest, most misguided thing I've ever read. An old friend had a complete collection of Chick's printed works (also found in bathrooms, incidentally), but I'm pretty sure you can find them all reproduced on the net. I could go on and on about what a misguided idiot I think Chick is but it's not worth the effort. -

Re:Why do we still care about the doubters?Creationists feel that atoms are held together by Jesus.
After thoroughly disproving evolutionary theory, they then disprove quantum theory. (Rememeber there's a reason it's called a theory.)
Gluons are a made up dream. No one has seen or even measured them.. they don't exist! It's a desperate theory to explain away the truth!"
...
Protons have positive charges. One law of electricity is: LIKE CHARGES REPEL EACH OTHER! Since all the protons in the nucleus are positively charged, they should repel each other and scatter into space.
...
If gluons aren't the answer... what is?
...
It says that Christ the Creator "Is before all things, and by him all things consist (are held together)." Also it says "All things were made by him (Christ); and without him was not anything made that was made"If you have questions about evolution, fine. But consider how they disprove gluons and realize that they disprove evolution using the same techniques. It sounds good unless you are knowledgable enough to figure where they are skirting or misrepresenting the facts.

Re:pron.awesome
And http://www.chick.com/ would have to become www.chick.xxx as well.
Personally, I hope that it moves to
/dev/null. I'm still not convinced that the site is not some kind of joke. The "Chick Tracks" (or whatever they are called) certainly seem like crude parodies of fundamentalist (as in self-righteous fanatic, not as in someone who tries to figure out the fundamental essence of his religion) ideology. The absurd conspiracy theories about the Catholic Church and Dungeons & Dragons (and pretty much everything else too) don't exactly evoke respect either. -

Re:Three words:
Perhaps if the pope stood on his balcony in Saint Peter's square and said -"Muslims? You are all gonna burn!!!". It would not contradict the bible one little bit.
There certainly are some Christians like that. Though his main target is homosexuals, Fred Phelps certainly has no love of Muslims either. I won't link his vile site, as I don't want to help any search engines pick it up, but if you want to see it go to www.godhatesfags.com - and naturally, be prepared for extremely offensive content.
Additionally, Jack Chick, creator of the infamous Chick tracts, has several tracts on the theme that Islam (or any other non-Protestant-Christian religion) is false deception and all it's followers are gonna burn in hell, etc, etc, rant, rant. To see his nasty little creations (I highly recommend his tracts on the evils of Dungeons and Dragons and evolution for comedy value) go to http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlist.asp -

Re:Religions don't even back ID
It varies from place to place. Most protestants don't view Catholics as non-Christian. However, you don't have to look very far to find examples of protestant anti-catholicism.
Case in point: Jack Chick, probably the best known Christian-tract publisher, has several tracts that are very anti-Catholic.
http://www.catholic.com/library/sr_chick_tracts_p4 .asp
"...there are still over 50 million precious people in just the U.S. alone that are deceived by Roman Catholicism's false 'gospel' and are headed for eternity in hell. World wide there are one billion looking to the pope, his Virgin Mary goddess, and their wafer god for salvation."

Please note - I am not talking about christians in general - just the moronic end of christianity. -
Listening to other people's PVviews is good, but..
Listening to other people's point of view is all well and good. But no-one should feel like they have to listen to the hatred and bile that are chick tracts. And while that takes things to an extreme, that disregard for other people's opinions and that propaganda is extremely common on the internet. Just stay here at slashdot for a while.
Having said that, I have managed to find a message board with mixed people, and they are fairly nice and keep the propaganda to a minimum. But these places on the internet are rare and few. I don't blame people for wanting to avoid people like Chick. Why are people so much more extreme on the internet? Well they're extreme in real life, but Penny arcade made a good point with a comic that said "Anonymity + opinion = fuckwad." People who might be nice and able to take differing opinions in real life, don't NEED to do so on the internet because they don't care about the people they interact with. They act nice in real life, because they care about people's opinions who they interact with. On the internet, this is no longer the case. They can act one way on one message board, another way on another message board, and no-one will ever know. -
Re:It can become an addictionWhat I have to say is not as bad, and was from the time of the text MUDs. I guy I know once went without sleep for a few days so he didn't have to log off. The problem with logging off was that your character was asleep, and hence vulnerable to anyone who came along.
It can be a problem, but only if you take it seriously. If you treat it as the fun it should be (and not as a life/career etc), then there is no problem.
This sort of problem is not new, but goes all the way back to D&D, and the suicides of people whose character died. (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01
. asp for those of you who have not seen it before) If your only social interaction is virtual (either as packets on a network, or stats on a page), then you may have a serious problem on your hands. -

It's left as an exercise to the reader to determine what spell level the pastor needed to be in order to cast Fire Wall to burn a pile of dungeons and dragons material. -

The only censorship that I ever had to endure was when I started playing the CCG "Magic: The Gathering." my mom kinda freaked out.

Re:Nevada ranches WANT to be taxed...
However I don't see how they can introduce a tax on fairly low key ranches in the middle of nowhere, that people goto willingly, in the name protect "the children" or for any moral reason.
Because there are people who do things like read Jack Chick or pay attention to other conservative whackjobs, and believe what they say. It's not a pragmatic argument, it's an ideological one. -

Re:Life, evolution, everything...
Pardon me for a second, but...
1) Secular humanism is not atheism, even if you call it that. If you don't believe in god, and you take a "other people can rot in a ditch for all I care" attitude, you're not a secular humanist.
2) Most atheists have had plenty of time to understand religious people, as 90% of the people around them are theists, and almost half the country is evangelical.
3) When, on Earth, did the parent "oppress" others? Talk about a persecution complex, geez. I'll never get how people who are part of a religion that composes 3/4ths of the US population think they're being oppressed. Who is this little non-Christian cabal that is keeping you down?
4) Since when was it "atheists" who desecrated the Quran? The religious beliefs of those involved weren't stated, but given the strong Xian majority... your evidenceless assumptions are, quite frankly, insulting. Besides, haven't you seen the sign or read the tracts? Let me tell you, it's not this country's tiny atheist minority that is anti-Islam...
5) Millenia of repression of religious thought
Excuse me????? Did you forget about the fact that the catholic church essentially *ruled europe* during the middle ages? Before that, there was the powerful influence of the Teutonic and druidic religions in the north, and the Greek-descended religions in the south. What "atheistic regimes" are you picturing here? Heck, many early governments claimed to either be descended from gods, or gods themselves.
Seriously... get out of your persecution fantasy world here - religion used to rule almost every society. -
wow
Wow, I'm just floored by the comic's scathing wit. It's very similar to this, isn't it?
