Re:diversity is a false god
The problem with making stuff up, like you just did, is that inevitably someone who knows better will call you out. You can provide proof, admit you're a liar, double-down, hotly angry, or just stop posting. Strapping bombs to kids? Just bullshit.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...â"Palestinian_conflict
The use of children as suicide bombers by Palestinians is well documented. There's plenty of links to news sources in the Wikipedia article. It took me about 2 minutes to find that article, had you bothered to take 2 minutes yourself to check before you posted then you wouldn't look like an idiot right now.
I love how the standard response of Israel's defenders, when presented with proof of Israelis murdering kids, doctors, nurses and people in wheelchairs, is to blather on...
The Palestinians have been caught lying many times about the Israel forces killing Palestinians.
https://www.christianpost.com/...
https://www.jpost.com/Arab-Isr...These deaths by IDF gunfire and tear gas always happen during a protest along the border fence. If these people know that the Israelis are so brutal then why are they bringing children and people in wheelchairs to the protests? Can you explain that? Assuming that the report of a child killed by tear gas was true, what kind of idiot parent brings an infant to a protest? I don't care if the protest was "peaceful". I don't care if they had no reason to expect IDF to gas them. No one wants to bring a child to a protest, out in the desert, so the child can be miserable and cry and therefore make the parents miserable. They brought the kid there knowing that the IDF would be using lethal force, knowing that the child could die, and therefore carry the blame for the death.
I have no sympathy for a culture that uses children as soldiers. I cannot blame the IDF for shooting children that get too close to the border fence when there is a history of children being used as suicide bombers to breach the fence or kill IDF soldiers. If there are wheelchair bound people and children suffocating in gas attacks by the IDF then that's because someone brought them to the border knowing that it's possible they could die in a gas attack.
If the Palestinians want to wage a war with Israel over the land they occupy then they can't claim to be victims of "brutality" when Israel defends their borders.
Sigh. It's not about religion, it's about force, taking land, and wanting to be cruel to people because you've taken their land.
It's not "their land" if they've never set foot on it. These young Palestinians admit that they've never been there before. Maybe instead of expending this effort in fighting for land that they've never seen before they should make the best of what they got.
The whole state would become impoverished and fall apart, even under the best case scenario, if the occupation were to end and an equitable solution found.
I don't even know what that means.

Re:A game that would be hard to make today
For instance, at my stepsons school this October they instituted a policy on Halloween that anyone in a Halloween costume would be sent to the principals office because "We don't "celebrate" Halloween here". No Joke... That actually happened at his school, and parents were called.
And you think it's your "SJWs" that have a War on Halloween?

Re:Am I in a goddamn cyberpunk novel?
Yes you are correct. It's frightening. Silence equals consent.
Key thing for me was the instant flip on views towards russia by "conservatives".
We have a huge block of pro-authoritarian voters. I think they want a "human god on earth" and it's literally "ukase rex"
.. i.e. whatever he says is good by definition. So if he says to fire people in violation of federal law, it's good. If he says to kill people, it's good. But it's not good- it's actually 1938 germany damn scary...
We studied WHY the "good " germans went along with hitler and it's the same thing. They wanted a strong leader and were willing to go along with anything he wanted as long as he was a strong leader. Many of Trumps supporters show the same reason for liking trump. He's strong. Not that he tells the truth. Not that he follows the law.
http://www.christianpost.com/n...
"In a recent column for Politico, MacWilliams reported that in December he did a national poll of 1,800 voters to explain the support for Trump.
"Running a standard statistical analysis, I found that education, income, gender, age, ideology, and religiosity had no significant bearing on a Republican voter's preferred candidate," wrote MacWilliams.
"Only two of the variables I looked at were statistically significant: authoritarianism, followed by fear of terrorism, though the former was far more significant than the latter."
Mark Leary, professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University, told The Christian Post that traits which define authoritarian personality include "rigid adherence to traditional values; the tendency to condemn, reject, and punish people who violate those values; and having a submissive, uncritical attitude toward powerful authorities who support and defend one's values and views."

A Certain Set of CharacteristicsAuthoritarian Personality Theory came from a project to better understand how the Nazis came to power during the 1930s and were able to commit mass atrocity.
Theodore Adorno et. al. published the first major work in 1950, titled The Authoritarian Personality, and championed the survey known as the California F-Scale, the letter f standing for Fascist.
The F-Scale was a series of questions that determined how authoritarian a person's thinking was, with an interviewee answering how much they agreed or disagreed with certain value statements.
According to one online version of the test*, statements posed to interviewees included, "Obedience and respect for authority are the most important virtues children should learn", "If people would talk less and work more, everybody would be better off", "Every person should have complete faith in some supernatural power whose decisions he obeys without question", and "An insult to our honor should always be punished."
Thousands of peer-reviewed articles and studies on the Authoritarian Personality have been published over the past six decades.

Re:Third party standards
To answer your question the political agenda of the SPLC is simple,it is to promote themselves so they can get more money.
After all if they don't have a new "bogeyman of the day" to shill for the press, why the press won't write about them anymore, and gasp! They might not be able to get those big fat donation checks anymore! You see the flaw in your logic is assuming its automatically a black/white issue and that one has to be beholden to a single political party, when looking at your typical SPLC list its pretty obvious they hate all religions and religious groups equally but their biggest goal is to label damned near every assembly of more than 4 people as a "hate group" so they have someone new to shill to the press because in the end? Their biggest desire isn't the favor of a political party, its good old fashioned money money money.

Re:But gender is a social construct
I am not afraid of LGBT, I am afraid of the collateral damage caused by the more overzealous of the group.
If you really want real change that will stick then people *must* discuss it openly and without fear of reprisal. If just debating the topic gets someone in trouble you will be ( and are ) seen as a threat to be eliminated or controlled rather than someone that want's to be open about the dual nature of their gender.
tl;dr
If you don't want people to be afraid of you don't be a threat to their freedom or lively-hood. You will become the enemy like the lesbians that targeted that cake shop.Hard fact.
Google this:
cake shop closed because of lesbians
http://www.christianpost.com/n...Not because of inequality, but because of lesbians/LGBT. My opinion on how this went down is that the lesbians targeted the bakery as part of the 'war on inequality'. I could be wrong but in this world 'perception is reality'. I don't care who you want to bugger or how you do it. I really don't. I care more about the threat the LGBT community represents to civilized society, my children and own freedoms.
Think about your actions. You are responsible for how people look at your cause.

We do know how
we do not really know how to defend ourselves against what is happening, not without turning into savages ourselves
Of course, we do:
- Enforce your visa laws.
- Do not provide governmental assistance and deport those, who sneak in despite your efforts
There is nothing "savage" about either of the two measures. Whoever feels sympathetic to the people displaced by war or any other kind of disaster, is welcome to help them in any way they choose directly.
The current situation makes no sense at all. Ukraine, for example — itself a European country with customs quite similar to those of EU members — has been struggling to obtain a visa-free status with EU for years. Meanwhile, folks with completely different ideas of how to live (and dress and pray) are allowed to immigrate en masse.
The US is different, but no less bizarre. For example, while the government actively prosecutes rich folks coming to US to give birth, who pay for it themselves and go back, the poor folks who can't afford healthcare themselves are effectively encouraged to come (illegally), give birth and stay . South Americans cross into the US daily while the Border Control intercepts only about 61%.
To America's credit, we seem to be better at dealing with the "wonderful tapestry of diversity", but there is nothing "savage" about wanting less of it — diversity is not strength, it is an expensive luxury.
We know how to do it and there is nothing "savage" about saying "no". But our current elites just would not do it — whether due to some misplaced compassion or desire for cheaper gardeners and cherry-pickers.

Before Paris it was the responsibility of the countries in the middle east to police their own. Now it's clear they can't contain it, even with aid so the rest of the world will be dragged into it.

Re:More like re-imagining
Damn, it's true, sad news: http://m.christianpost.com/new...
In an earlier report, Kitase had already cited that the existing battle system of the game which was turn-based needed to be updated. In this recent update, Kitase said, "On the other hand, we're currently working out the battle system and such through trial-and-error. Since there's a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we're thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it."
I have no idea why they believe that it won't work. A real shame. -

Re:I should have thought of that
Several evangelical groups have praised Pope Francis' major encyclical on the environment released on Thursday, which warns that climate change is real and is impacting all of God's creation, including impoverished people in different corners of the world. Francis said that it's wrong to treat nature and other living creatures as "mere objects" for "human domination."
"We are grateful that the pope has joined with over 300 Evangelicals like Rick Warren, Rich Stearns, and Bill Hybels, and other Christian leaders who understand climate change is the greatest moral challenge of our time and the greatest opportunity for hope. It's time to make hope happen by fueling the unstoppable clean energy transition, stopping the ideological battles, and working together," said in a statement Rev. Mitch Hescox, president & CEO, Evangelical Environmental Network.
"Creating a new energy economy that benefits all and addresses climate change is not about a political party but living as a disciple of Jesus Christ. "hard statistical evidence that most likely terrorists are muslims"
Yeah........ when you ignore inconvenient cases such as the Oklahoma City bombing, the burning of churches in the south, dozens of mass shootings, etc. You have to have a pretty narrow view of "terrorism" and/or interpret "most likely" to be 51% or slightly higher to type that statement without without cringing at the hypocrisy.
Says the moron who thinks that the number of churches burned in the USA by white supremecists equals the 400 burned in Syria, 37 in Egypt, and over 400 in nigeria, all by Muslims. And that;s not even starting on Hindu temples and Buddhists shrines. Also are you comparing "dozens of mass shootings" to the tens of thousands killed by IS and the total number could be in millions.

TLDR: In May 2007, the GOP hopefuls were asked "How many of you don’t believe in evolution?". Even McCain, who had just a month before said that he liked evolution, changed his mind.

Re:Really?!?
Besides, OSC's SF books have nothing to do with his views on a totally orthogonal societal issue.
Not so. Enchantment is about pre-ordained heterosexual marriage and the struggle of the Christian partners against pagan deities. It's a thinly-veiled showcase of his beliefs.
Boycotting the former because of the latter is called an ad hominem. Case in point, a lot of people enjoy Disney movies and Ford cars despite Walt Disney and Henry Ford being nasty antisemitic pro-nazi nutjobs.
No, boycotting the business of someone whose beliefs you despise is called the free market. Christians do it all the time. Whether or not someone can enjoy a movie is incidental to whether or not they choose to do so. Personally, I boycotted the movie Powder because the director was a convicted child molester. I don't give a shit whether or not the movie was any good. Disney knew of his history when they hired him, and I won't give them a dime of my money for that product.
-
Re:Really?!?
Why do you want to punish people for their opinion in a way that has nothing at all to do with the opinion?
Because that's one of the things available to you to protest.
You think that's how free and open exchange of ideas works, that you're supposed to financially punish everybody you disagree with, instead of just voicing your own opinion? It's totally insane.
So, you think a free and open exchange of ideas should translate into a free and open exchange of money? That people should somehow enrich him because it has nothing at all to do with his very vocal political views?
Why should they reward him?
I don't support gay marriage, but honestly it's never even occurred to me to boycott movies by director who do support gay marriage.
Has it occurred to you there are people who do exactly this? Christian groups have called on the boycott of banks because they supported gay pride events. It's hardly an isolated occurence. Hell, when people started boycotting Chik-A-Fil a bunch of other people started deliberately going there.
So, you think if you actively works against, say, purple people having rights, that purple people should enrich you in other endeavors? Why exactly? Out of kindness or stupidity? You have no right to expect people you have publicly stated are evil and should have no rights to buy your product.
But let's not pretend that Christians and other groups don't actively boycott things which they deem offensive. People choose to vote with their wallets all the time -- do you really think if Al Qaeda released a feature film that people should go see it? Why would you line the pockets of someone who hates you?
I'm sorry, but Orson Scottt Card is publicly on record as being a douchebag who campaigned against the rights of other people. To expect that group of people to say "oh well, the one has nothing to do with the other " and go to his movie is ridiculous.
OSC is free to hold his bigoted opinions, and people are free to choose to not pay money to see this movie. He's an idiot if he thinks 'tolerance' means people should forget about what he's done in the past and pay money to see it.
This amounts to "waaah, I hated those people for so long and now they won't give me money". Well, duh!

$8.8B for foreign aid is a lot, that's great - but as the *Christian newspaper* says, it's only 37% compared to what the US government provides. "Great majority" and "simple fact"? Yeah, try again...
And second: I didn't say anything about "Christians", I was pointing out hypocricy of the wealthy religious right. Do you know where a disproportionate amount of religious donations come from? Those who can barely afford to donate... http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2009/05/19/68456/americas-poor-are-its-most-generous.html

Re:You don't really believe that, do you?
The last two dozen or so lawsuits over prayer in school revolved around students voluntarily praying and a principle saying grace or asking another teacher to at a after school private dinner. They were facing criminal charges for it. The only students present were members of the culinary program who volunteered to create the dinner and serve the food.
If it was just Government-forced prayer, it would be one thing. But having to defend against ACLU lawsuits because a teacher steps in with a group of kids already meeting at a flag pole for prayer or when a principle asks someone to bless the dinner at a private function is fucking ridiculous. It's fucking ridiculous when schools are abandoning learning the pledge of elegance because it mentions god in the wording. It's ridiculous when Christmas plays performed by the students that depict nothing more then the secular notion of Santa Clause or the singing of Christmas carols are banned because of a quasi connection to a religious holiday.
You are obviously either ignorant of what has happened and do not understand what they are considering government forced prayer (common, a school teacher at a private dinner function faced criminal charges for giving thanks for his meal) or your purposely misstating what is going on in some attempt to ignore the outrage over it.

does that make Ireland a religion-free zone?
Islam is blasphemous to Christianity, Christianity and Islam are blasphemous to Jews, Catholicism is blasphemous to protestants, and protestantism is blasphemous to Catholics. Does that mean the Irish can (finally!) kick the entire lot off the island?
And why should Christians be allowed to insult atheists with impunity?
Or does this law only apply to protect big, arrogant sky-god religions? Oh, why do I even ask, it's Ireland we're talking about.

Jesus is up there with 15 of history's preeminant lawgivers, IMO. Makes sense. He promoted peace and justice, things you want in a courthouse. Or the ethiopian food fight. Were it about Republicans, or about the plight of white overage Americans, the ACLU wouldn't care.
Are those 2 (very recent) examples really what you want your tax dollars going towards? I'd classify it as pork. There are so many things that rank higher in the world of 'civil liberties', the ACLU, from what I have seen, nitpicks the little things that really don't matter. If pictures offend you, you have bigger problems. -

The Discovery Institute has specifically targeted Wikipedia's Intelligent Design article and the people who edit it (including me personally). So yes, when it comes to whitewashing, they are the first suspects on my list.
