Check out csoft.net (who used to advertise here on Slashdot back in '95). They are completely focused on reliability (e-mail is hosted/replicated on multiple servers), Unix-friendly, and they sponsor a number of open-source projects as well. They use the Postfix MTA along with a local delivery agent called mailprocd , which provides you with a persistent SpamAssassin process under your own UID.

This is the kind of quality software that linux desperately lacks. It is interesting how wine was used here.

Except that using Wine to make your app cross-platform is a bit of a cop-out solution. Good that Google is finally taking an interest in linux; bad that they're only using the Corel solution.

I wonder if this will lead to the porting of other google apps like google earth.

Well, in the mean time, there's always WW2D combined with WW2D plus one ...

Sure thing, I'm pretty sure I know all the steps. Getting SSH to get going was a pain, but after some googling I got it eventually. (lemme tell you, it's not hard to find info about AD integration with samba... but it is hard to find info that works!) I think I'd want to set up another test box so I can test going through all the steps again before I release the documentation of how I did it. Basically the core steps are to make sure you have kerberos installed (as well as the pam authentication modules), and winbind etc.

I found the easiest step to be authenticating against the AD server. Once you set up the /etc/krb5.conf file properly, you can add the linux machine as a member of the domain (using kinit domainuser@DOMAIN.COM, and then doing net ads join). Remember that the DOMAIN.COM needs to be in all caps when doing kinit, I tried doing lowercase and it didn't work (same thing for specifying the realm in the krb5.conf file).

After that you need to make sure the winbind conf is set up properly. This varies from distro to distro; in Suse Enterprise Server 9 this was just in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file.

Then you have to change all the lines in /etc/pam.d/login and /etc/pam.d/sshd and /etc/pam.d/jabberd (depending on what you want to authenticate against AD with). I actually haven't set up jabber yet since I was updating the tons of patches from the initial 9 install to SP2. (I didn't realize SP2 was even out but the online updates said it was SP2.. oh well).

I can post all my relevant conf files on my journal if you want, let me know. Take note that a lot of what I did is specific to Suse, so it may be slightly different for other distros.

For my Linux/BSD hosting I use CSoft. For my windows based hosting I use Tactical Systems. I've been very happy with both. I've been with CSoft for something like 5+ years now, and with TS for about a year.

CSoft is who I've been with for years. Never had a problem. For $5/month you can get a shell account with 700 MB of storage.

I've resorted to using a username-based catch-all. lists-*@mydomain.tld is used for all the "make up on the fly" stuff, and the addresses I had out that turn into spam get dropped into the bit bucket on my hosting service's server.

I had the full catch-all enabled for a while and it worked fine, until some spammer in Brasil started sending me hundreds of thousands of spams a week. It got so bad when I was processing with SpamAssassin on the hosting service's server that spamd dumped core and the provider closed my account for a time; and processing using spamd locally got to be too big a processor drain at home, too. So now anything that doesn't come to knownusername-*@mydomain.tld gets sent directly to /dev/null.

That doesn't eliminate every spam, but it's cut the volume of garbage that I actually have to download and process here at the house way, way down to just a few hundred a week.

Any other way and I'm simply overrun.

I use CSoft for just this. From their website:

CubeSoft Communications is a company from Quebec which produces open-source software, funded by a quality UNIX hosting service, and a dedicated server/co-location service.

They're not free, but their cheapest setup is $5/month for a real shell login, web server access (including tons of interpreters, databases access, etc.), compiler access (they ask you to be reasonable), and just about full reign as a user on a shared UNIX system. They're also quick on service requests and have a great administration tool. From their website:

You can see Apartment Huntin' in it's original form by playing this .dem file in original Quake. You're right, the link to the demo file was deleted when we redesigned the movies page.

AH was made back in 1999, by the way. : )
Funny story: L & L are lumberjacks because we used the original Quake Marine, and he only had a gun or an axe. So we went with the axes.

As someone who has tried his hand at a bit of charcoal , graphite , pencil, and the odd digital effort, allow me share the two top tutorials (IMHO) for learning to draw. The first one: buy Drawing on the Right Side of The Brain by Betty Edwards. It can take you from "can't draw to save your life" to "I can draw realistic portraits from life" in a couple of weeks. I'm serious. It's that good.
The second is here. It's Paul Wilkinson's tutorial on lifelike portraits - with an especially good section on proper shading and how to do it. I've been saying drawing is very like coding for years - it's nice to see someone else quantify that.
