Re:For now...
Look at FBP. It overrides the default view order and can hide all or part of the left and right panes. I used it before I deleted.
Fun Fact: Facebook does not allow for posting that link in your timeline.
Bonus: If you log in using Chrome, there's an extension that deletes shit by month, going back as far as you like. I used Social Book Post Manager. It took a while, but it works.
For Twitter, use https://www.tweetdelete.net/

branded as a traitor
Take a look at the F. B. (Fluff Busting) Purity add-on, it hides a lot of that unwanted junk on Facebook. It works with Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Safari, Opera, and Maxthon browsers, on Windows, Mac, and Linux. http://www.fbpurity.com/ I've been using it for over a year, and it's updated regularly.
soon this behavior will be punished with death, and they will start with you

Fluff Busting Purity
"Facebook has to allow people to access their relationships however they want through other businesses or tools that are not controlled by Facebook" --Matt Stoller
I have accessed Facebook through Firefox and Chromium [...] Heck, Facebook doesn't even make a web browser. So where's the comparison to AIM?
It's not necessarily the browser as much as the extensions. Facebook doesn't really like extensions such as Fluff Busting Purity. Its FAQ page mentions occasional "big changes that Facebook makes to break features of FBP."

FB Purity
I think FB Purity http://www.fbpurity.com/ Ironically I'm @ work and can't get to faceplant to verify

removed the personalized interest-based list...
I removed mine long ago with Facebook Purity http://www.fbpurity.com/

Re:How to block all video?
fbpurity.com Facebook is useless without it.

tool to manage facebook
this plug-in still blocks ads and does many other things to make facebook tolerable: http://www.fbpurity.com/
-
Re:facebook is not a necessity
Use the FB Purity extension for all major browsers. It does a lot of nice customizable things to FB, even an unfriend notifier.
-
Re:Crazy idea, how about I choose.
I remember everyone saying, facebook wont be around in 10 years, something better will come along. I'm still waiting, because facebook really does have the most horrible interface.
Yup, FB's interface and constant fucking around with it is a pain in the backside.
What really irks me is the fixed with columns. It's 2016 FFS, people have hires wide screen monitors, yet the actual news feed on my browser is a little strip taking up less than 25% of the screen, the rest is just wasted whitespace and shitloads of pointless scrolling.Have you tried FB Purity , it's not perfect but it helps cut down on the shit FB thinks you should see.
-
Re:Ahem
Facebook Purity will keep that on for you permanently. I would have left Facebook a long time ago if it weren't for that extension. http://www.fbpurity.com/

Re:Do people actually pay attention to "Trending"?
I use FBPurity, which can be set to completely hide the "Trending" sidebar (as well as a whole lot of other annoying things about the FB desktop interface), so this is a non-issue. And, since most people (I suspect) read FB on mobile devices where there is no "Trending" sidebar, it's a non-issue for them, too.

Re:They should pay me if they want original conten
I wish there was a way to block ALL shares, and ONLY see original content created by someone I know.
There is a way: FBPurity.
-
Re:They should pay me if they want original conten
You can block all shares with fbpurity
-
Re:They should pay me if they want original conten
The Facebook Purity extension has a filter that will remove "share posts" from your feed. They have a bunch of other filters to remove sponsored posts and the like as well. With the right combination of options, you can just about rewind facebook to 2008 or so.

Re:stupid idea
This already happens according to some Farcebook algorithm.
MANY users[who?] detest this and opt for "Most Recent" instead of "Top Stories". It's one of the reasons extensions such as FB Purity and Social Fixer exist.
Right now I do most of my Farcebook interactions through Tinfoil for Facebook. There's also a version for Twitter. Having "social" media in its own browser cut off from the rest of your system means you don't have to install "Messenger" to use chat and more importantly, it can't be written to by any pissant program that fancies using your normally logged in account. -
Re:How about...
Try this: http://www.fbpurity.com/

get F.B. Purity
F.B. Purity is available as an addon or GreaseMonkey script and already has the option to disable autoplay, among other things.

What Are These "Ads" You Speak Of?
I don't get adverts on Facebook? Nor do I get game requests, pokes or any other annoying thing that intrudes upon my idle time.
I installed the Facebook Purity browser extension, and all of that went away.
I now browse FB with no trouble, no bugging, none of the "Eat this and never diet again!" adverts that look like some kind of tropical disease. I also get a lot of hand customizations that give *me* far more control of Facebook than they're really happy with, which is why they had to change their page from "Facebook Purity", to "Fluff Busting" Purity.
I have noticed that it also blocks Facebook's third-party cookie system, meaning I can't comment on LiveFyre, Discus and other commenting systems on other sites. Annoying, but probably just a configuration issue I haven't figured out yet.

Re:All the more reason to...
And if you MUST use Facebook then add in F.B. Purity to really clean up the mess and not see any ads on Facebook (as well as other useless shit)..
-
Happened to author of FB Purity too
I remember Kruse being very dismissive then.
Also FB Purity is a much better extension.
-
Re:It was about time
When Facebook did this very same thing to the author of Fluff Busting Purity, the author of Social Fixer pooh-poohed him for violating Facebook's ToS. This here is Karma coming home to roost. And it's about time. Equitability must be maintained.
Matt has worked as closely as he was allowed with Facebook to ensure that he did not violate the Terms of Service. As best as he can figure so far, the shut down of his page isn't because of a violation of the API, but because his page was reported as distributing spam. He cannot verify beyond that, though, because Facebook has offered him no way of communicating with them for any clarification.

Horrible social media site does horrible things.
News at 11.
(On a more serious note, the same thing happened to the extension FB Purity. -
Re:Stop with the messenger shooting!
The prosecutors should focus on the 'anti-facebook' stuff that Facebook removes in a blink of an eye. So if it is good for them to censor stuff which they view in-appropriate for them, why not hate or bullying material. Try posting the following link on Facebook http://fbpurity.com/ - this is simply a plugin which kills their adverts. They clearly don't hold 'Free speech' in high esteem. Facebook pays very close attention to everything you post and upload - they will have a hard time proving they did not know!!!. I hope someone from Facebook goes to jail - that would be nice
:) -
Re:There is not even a way to remove it!
F.B Purity works well for me. Facebook hates it so much that they're censoring it.
-
Re:positive way but not spam
Unfortunately, they're not just targeting spam. Try posting a link to fbpurity.com (which, combined with ffixer, are the only things that make facebook bearable to use, IMO) on your wall, and see what happens.
Facebook has begun actively inserting itself into the mono- and dialogues of users. While this is no different or scarier from what they have been capable of in the past, it forces shee^H^H^H^H users to acknowledge that fact for perhaps the first time. As such, I'm all for it.
-
Solution for your individual blocking woes
FB Purity uses your browser to implement a whitelist of applications that get to your feed, so even as new games are "released" (usually in the case of Zynga, poorly reimplemented or bought) you won't see their spam unless you specifically allow them.
-
Sick of individually blocking FB games?
I use FB Purity. Awesome.
http://www.fbpurity.com/
That and a couple other tweaks in FF makes FB a reasonably enjoyable experience. -
Re:Facebook is a good tool
FBPurity. Cleans all the crap out so you can just see newsfeeds. Essential for the rare time I spend on Facebook.
-
of the O11 extensions i tried, i like f.b. purity
my favourite extension for opera 11 that ive tried so far is F.B. Purity, it filters out the junk, such as application spam, and other machine generated messages, from your facebook homepage newsfeed, making fb much less annoying to use. it also lets you increase the font size and easily apply your own custom css rules. pretty cool: http://www.fbpurity.com/

FBPurity
Firefox, greasemonkey add-on, and FBPurity. The "FB" stands for "Fluff Busting" not "facebook" for legal reasons...
It blocks app messages, groups joined, events attended, everything. You can whitelist some things that you might want to see and create your own list of blocked words if you want. It's the only thing that makes facebook vaguely usable in my book...
-
rather than unfriending, simply filter
faceboook doesnt have fine grained filtering, you either hide a person completely, or unfriend them, or put up with their junk posts. luckily theres a third party solutoin that does give you more filtering options: Facebook Purity FTW! http://www.fbpurity.com/
-
Re:Ok, honestly
Are you looking for something like FB Purity?
-
Re:Great.
If you use Firefox then check out the very nice greasemonkey script fluffbuster purity; http://www.fbpurity.com/. It gives you selective control of all the bull that fills up Facebook. (There's some interesting reading there too regarding what facebook thinks of that script...)
-
Facebook does stuff like this a lot
They did something similar to FB Purity, a Greasemonkey script that allows users to filter out apps and other stuff they don't want to see in their feed. Facebook argued that they were misusing their "FB" trademark... eventually they let them continue under the name "fluff busting purity", probably due to the PR backlash that shutting them down would bring.
They've also shut down the Facebook portion of the Web 2.0 Suicide Machine, which runs scripts that allow a user to delete their social profiles as thoroughly as sites will allow. In that case, they argued that the Suicide Machine was violating their "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities"... which isn't even a law! Nonetheless, the Suicide Machine didn't have the financial ability to fight even frivolous claims like that, so they folded that section.
Facebook apparently believes that its users will continue using the site regardless of the ridiculous access policies that their legal department create and defend. I hope they're wrong.
