Re:Facebook == Shot at Adobe's FlashHow is having access to an open version of Flash going to kill the Windows platform? Because you are talking about Flash, that implies that you are talking about web development. The Windows Platform is an operating system. Therefore you are attempting to make the claim that open Flash will allow a third party company (which, by the way, will almost certainly have less manpower and money than Microsoft) to develop some sort of web OS that will render a mature, entrenched desktop OS like Windows obsolete. You got most of the way there, but missed it at the end. Who needs a web OS when you can run a flash-based app from any OS you want? Opening Flash gives platforms without Flash the opportunity to make their own ports, which assures widest user base. If it was open it'd also give the assurance that lock-in and corporate bullyism aren't a worry, and it would mean that people could, if they chose, write for Flash using 3rd party non-adobe tools. That would make it VERY attractive to developers.
As Microsoft knows, you get the developers to write their apps for you, you get the users. Open flash would mean much more widespread use of flash. Widespread use of flash means people can use any OS they want to use their Flash apps. I think you can figure out the rest. -
Ballmer Teases?
(Not FTA...)
Ballmer: [whilst dancing around and sweating profusely] "HA HA, Software-Plus-Services! Your mom is dumb and ugly and stupid and everyone thinks you smell!!!"
You know, it sure is strange to hear about Ballmer teasing something. Isn't he usually the one getting teased?
Ohhh, wait, different kind of teasing. My mistake.

Re:Don't forget the tv ad
And while we're at it, don't forget the iBrator:

Re:Revenge
Don't forget the iBrator.

Comical effort? I know what their inspiration was
-
Edit? HELL YES.
Man, I saw the words 'edit post' in the URL to that story and I got all excited, thinking about how I was gonna go change it to reference Apple products like the Apple Post-It Notes and the iBrator and the iZune or whatever
... then once I found out I couldn't edit the post I got all sad.
Then I started thinking about the iBrator and Ellen Fleiss again and all was well. -
Re:Wow.
That product already exists
iAnal is probably the UI for the iBrator -
Re:It just amazes me
We obey because it's the path of least resistance. I sure as hell ain't gonna start using Linux exclusively and abandon the stuff I like using just to stick it to Microsoft. Doesn't do a damn thing in the long run.
Which "we" are you refering to? I myself choose death. -
iBrator
Well, there is always the iBrator, the most, uh, "friendly" of USB devices.
-
iPod interface?
iBrator!
Unfortunately it doesn't really exist and it's not an iPod interface, but I could see someone hacking such a device into existance. And it selling well. -
THATS great
I guess that movies explains the diff. Ppl want to join in on the OSS approach, whereas only those with other interest join in on this dance. Shoots; he even had to get after others to not sit down.

Re:Another fine graduate
In space, chairs are a hell of a lot easier to throw.
More like, "In space, it's a lot easier for a chair to throw you!" (No, not a Soviet Russia reference. More like a reference to basic, Newtonian physics.)
I'm not sure about that the shuttles have enough lifting power to take mr Ballmer up there though.
NASA has enough lift power, but they keep having to abort the launch due to unforseen pogo oscillations. :-P -
Worst Example Ever..
Of Apple doing something like this was the Macintosh office. They advertised at the superbowl in 1985 for a new Office server deal...that never shipped. The idea was that the server would run the laser writer while the macs hooked to the server, standard stuff really. The Mac office never made it to market but it did serve as the basis of the MacII.
Watch the Ad! Amusing. -

Lemmings commercial
If this happens I'd like them to do a remake of the famous lemmings commercial. And I'd like it to be honest: if Apple and IBM can merge, how was such an enormous gulf spanned over time?
-
prior artI think it's been done. At least, there's some prior art for something like it.
Oh, wait. You said embarrassingly simple, not simply embarrassing. My bad
:-)(The link is to an amusing Apple spoof ad, worth checking out. Just don't do it at work.)

Re:I might as well say it first
So there are what, 4 people using linux at home that also have intimate enough relationships to actually produce offspring
At least some of us Linux users are capable of extremely intimate relationships. If there is a small number of Linux users with kids, it may be because we are smart enough to read the man page for condoms. And of course, the little part in the birth control pill manual that says they aren't effective for 30 days after you start taking them or after missing a dose. Windows machines, and their owners, get knocked up all the time because they aren't smart enough to RTFM. Often, even their operating system was loaded on the computer without their consent. It isn't that windows users have more sex, its just that they have more mishaps.
And Linux users are also capable of creating intellectual creations which reduces the psychological need to spawn biological creations.
Mac users, on the other, hand may have trouble reproducing because they are always too busy using their iBrators
:-). -
Bah! Lame moves by Tux.If we want Linux to beat out Windows on the desktop, Tux will have to learn to dance at least as well as Steve Ballmer can.

Re:He should beVery true - however, Mac OS X has a very easy way to install patches and a more reliable history with patches. Not to say that they don't realease patches that cause more harm than good every so often, but they do seem to do it less often than MS. Granted, as you point out, due to fact that few people (in comparison) use Mac OS X (especially on the server side) it is virtually untested.
On the *nux side, I think it's more understood that it is the user/admin's responsability to take care of these things. Microsoft often leads people to believe (in my experience, it's mostly small business owners) that it's secure out of the box, which is really true for no OS. Over the past few years, they have been doing a lot less of this, but the image still lingers.
Personally, I like South Parks way of handling Bill Gates...

For others...
If you like your toys running OSX instead of Linux, there's always the iBrator.
