To keep themselves warm
Maybe google execs can use the fuel cell to keep warm after IE7 comes out:

Re:AdSense - ClickFraud and Google's 'Help'
Preventing click fraud should be the #1 thing they talk about. But do they? Noooo.
-
Wherefore art thou Google
Motley Fool staffers are just now realizing that Google is slowly running out of gas. Perhaps all this clickfraud exposure is leaving people wondering how could they get away with this Internet ponzi scam for so long... Luckily Google got a little smarter and quieted the naysayers a bit by doing the MS thing and buying all the competition around them. Smart move. MS bought all threats and consumed them into the heap of junk calls Windows. Google is doing the same slowly via different angles (Skype, Writely
... which competes with MS' Word, Andriod, etc). Anyhow, since its all opinionated, I wonder when will Google's true adclick fraud will truly come to fruition... Experts estimate the true value of what Google would owe would be a couple of BILLION in clickfraud. -
Re:Everyone - Attention
Please start deleting items from the Internet. It is getting full.
Oh my god, does that mean that offering everyone on the planet 1GB mail accounts for free and allowing everyone to host his shitty blog for free is not a profitable business anymore? Who would have thought!

Don't you know? Google can do whatever they want because normal laws do not apply to them (or so they want to believe John Randomshareholder).

GOOG is just one big pump and dump scheme...
Well, what would you expect from a company that makes at least 50% of it's revenue from Click fraud. Refer to Googles recent settlement (gee slashdot, why wasnt this one on the front page?) foxnews.com/story/0,2933,187284,00.html
What would you expect from a company with practically no revenue growth prospects?
What would expect froma company whose IPO was nothing more than a 2.2 billion + pump-n-dump scam?
What would expect from a company whose insiders have made billions off the sale of the stock WITHOUT EXPENSING IT?!?! Eric Schmidt recently sold about 100 million in stock in one day (Feb 22).
What would you expect from a company whose has refused to comply with the new FASB rules requiring expensing of stock options?
Google makes a great search engine and some other great products, but realize that none of that justifies a stock price of over $100 / share.
If your pride can handle it, read this blog: http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
Do some research on Click Fraud, and realize how google really makes its $. -
What I want to know ...
... is just how close to the mark this guy is?

somebody alert fuckedgoogle.com.. this one is ripe
http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
Google is really getting desperate these days. All these investments and new "products" and they still get 99.99% of their money selling tiny little text ads.
Achilles, anyone? -
fuckedgoogle says you guys are full of it
http://fuckedgoogle.com/
Google is just spinning, spinning, spinning.
And they've got the slashdot crowd under their thumb because if Google fails, the dot.com dream of foosball and neck beards and stock options riches dies forever. As long as Google keeps inflating their stock price everyone on slashdot can keep saying "it could happen to me, one day, i know it can!"
Only problem is that Google is based on one thing- selling tiny little text ads. And those ads are getting tuned out by more and more people, just like happened with banners.
All these new and exciting freeware products google has developed? none of them have ever made a dime, except to be vehicles for more tiny little text ads, which as i just said are being tuned out more and more.
Sad, really.
Try starting your OWN company rather than worshiping someone elses. Stop being a fanboy. It's not attractive. -
they used fuckedgoogle.com's slogan in the article
http://fuckedgoogle.com./
"please god, just one more bubble." has been the slogan on their banner for 2 years, at least. I wonder if wired was trying to say something. LOL.
In any case, people who say Google can't be in a bubble because it actually makes profits are just morons. Cisco, and Sun, and SGI and Oracle, and Microsoft ALL had huge profits in the dot.com mania boom- more than Google has now. But that didn't stop their stocks from being ridiculously overvalued, and eventually collapsing 90% or more in value from the peak.
The simple answer is the Google is the only "trendy" dot.com left that is raking in cash, so we've focused all our dot.com dreams on ONE SINGLE COMPANY.
And Google's entire business model is based on one thing- tiny little text advertisements that most people click on because they can't even distinguish that they are advertisements rather than part of the website's content. (yes, i know, slashdot people have learned to tune out most adsense ads, but does your GRANDMOTHER know that any link within 4 inches of the phrase "sponsored links" is a paid advertisement?) -
somone alert fuckedgoogle.com !
http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
This rumor is so ripe for satire I can hardly believe it. -
Execs dont care- they've cashed out BILLIONS:
http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
There's Larry Page, sipping a beer, enjoying the company of a lady that would be totally out of his league if not for the billions of dollars worth of stock he's sold. (not to mention the PERSONAL 767 jetliner tricked out like a middle eastern oil prince)
This year alone, Google insiders have sold nearly 7 billion dollars of stock. That's more than Microsoft employees sold in the first DECADE they were a public company.
That 7 billion dollars is around 7 times what Google Inc. reported as profit this year.
Google is in the business of selling stock. They are not in the business of selling advertising, or search, or email, or maps. They are in the business of selling STOCK.
If you owned a liquor store and made 99.9% of your profit through selling NOTHING BUT BOOZE, and every other week you sold a 25 cent gumball from the vending machine, would you honestly be able to claim you are running a gumball store? NO. You are running a liquor store.
The amount of stock google insiders are unloading is so far, so fast, beyond any other public company in HISTORY (yes, history) that it is beyond ridiculous.
Do you really think the top execs care anymore? If you had a billion dollars, cash, in your pocket, would you give a shit what the fanboys on slashdot thought?
Hell, even the CHEF at Google quit a while back because he earned 15 million through stock options and left to start his own restaurant. You don't think that's happening to the rank and file employees? When you have 15 million in your pocket, do you really think you're going to sit around in a cubicle all day, away from your family, just so you can eat great cafeteria food and design more complicated ways to deliver advertising? -

www.fuckedgoogle.com, we need you!http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
Ah, finally a take on the NASA deal that doesn't involve slashdot users falling over themselves to praise Google. But seriously, how do you go from selling text ads on websites to saying you are going to build nanotechnology for NASA? Did Eric/Larry/Sergey eat the brown acid at burning man this year or something? I was there and heard from several folks that they were too, although I didn't see them personally. -
Re:Sam Kinison once said
Did going public hurt Google?
"Up until now, the only billions being cashed out were by the executive staff as they raised cash to purchase nearly every mansion in Atherton over the last year" FG -
Oh, I've got images disabled...
Still, something of note:
Deviantart is a shit-site that you might not care about, but I noticed something really strange about the Google "indexing"...
Any kind of communication on the site is saved in the "comment" subdomain. (If you delete a pic/journal the comments on them are still stored)
So to find something easily, you just do site:deviantart.com inurl:comments
This gives us: "Results 1 - 10 of about 951,000"
Over 900k man, that's a lot!
Now the hit that includes that part of the site is the third anyway, this one:
comments.deviantart.com/5/6169392/159452388
You know what we do next? We take the first 10 words from that text, and we search for them.
I tried this a week ago, and now I was thinking Google might of noticed that and indexed it, or something.
Has it?
No.
THE FIRST HIT OF NEAR A MILLION.
Something else of note is the last number in the address, 159452388
159,452,388
160 million.
There has only been 160 million comments, and Google somehow has indexed 6x the amount.
(Trust me, ok, the other numbers are just for sorting)
That's easy to explain though: because of the tree structure ("nested" on slashdot) of comments.
But what should that mean? THAT I'D GET MULTIPLE RESULTS.
So what does this whole anti-indexing mean?
Now, a link to the ugliest site in the universe (The author seemingly surfs with 640x480 4/8-bit in win3.1... and uses the evil empire's toolbar)
Google cares about bloggers, why, you might ask? Bloggers make links a lot, Google likes this, it "improves" their PageRank.
That is, if there weren't such a thing as "commercial interests". Which is the whole reason the retarded "splogs" word exists, because Google is so damn good at indexing their own blogging service. I've also seen some spam which didn't contain links at all, just "mind control". Searching on part of the message (crazy huge 2k words) returned 7k hits.
Another thing I just figured out (wow that's great mr smartypants) is any link is counted as positive. I would think a truly honest writer (journal-ist, blog-er, diary-ist) presents just as much positive as negative thoughts (and thus, links) on subjects.
Righto, so back to mr ugly: "One reason why Google is stinkin' rich is because webmasters have never been organized. Even today there are no associations of webmasters that can represent them in court. [...] A copyright decision that addresses search engines in terms of opt-in as opposed to opt-out, would make the web a better place. It may also help solve some of the privacy issues and identity-theft problems that occur when crawlers grab files that they should not be allowed to have"
I think he at least mentions something I haven't thought about, as opposed to mr F-google who just repeats the same shitty drivel over and over, and is of course, a fucking blog. That also brings to light something else - as opposed to websites, the only thing that matters is "speed", you won't notice revisions or any formatting beyond linebreaks (and those stupid ass pictures he must spend half of the site-updating-time to) or any sorting beyond "by date". -

Re:Negativity on this board...
The hope that Google, of all companies, will come in and save us from the ongoing rape of consumers of communications, is something that makes me hopeful.
No. It merely makes you look like an idiot.
1. Google sucks
2. The author of the article knows very well that his story is bullshit; like every blogger, he counts on fucking morons who still believe this iss possible (like you) -

fuckedgoole.com anyone?http://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
slashdot is late to the party, as usual.
-
www.fuckedgoogle.com already knew thishttp://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
seriously folks, most people on slashdot have such a congnitive dissonance going with regards to Google that there would be 500 posts defending Google if somehow the corporation itself were caught in bed with a dead, 14 year old hooker and a bag full of colombian flake.
just because Google isn't microsoft is no reason to automatically assume Google is some sort of deity.
in fact, why do you people have this innate longing to fall in love with ANY company? they sell TEXT ADS, PEOPLE. none of their other products has ever made a dime. those "geek" products are nothing more than the mafia boss giving large donations to the local little league team or fireman's retirement fund. it's called public relations.

maybe fuckedgoogle.com was right after allhttp://www.fuckedgoogle.com/
Seriously. Every news story I've read about Baidu this past month calles them the "Chinese Google" when in fact they're just another search engine, one of a dozen or so in China and one of 5 that have already gone public and seen their stock rise and then collapse.
This one is supposed to be different because Google invested a few million dollars in them?
Give me a break. It's all hype. And now it turns out the company was making at least part of its revenue by distributing warez?
What a clusterfuck.

will they release an API to detect click fraud?because it's pretty strange that even though nobody would THINK of running a major site with paid advertising without having a third-party traffic auditor, Google apparently thinks it is perfectly ok that all of its traffic logs and records are kept 100% secret.
"Trust us." is their only method of auditing. Would anybody ANYWHERE ELSE in the business world find this acceptable? How long can they keep it up, since they seem to be getting sued for click fraud every other week?

Re:Concentrate on more important features firstmaybe you should concentrate on google's accounting fraud this quarter:
Due to financial shennanigans, Google is going to be able to show earnings this quarter up over 100% on a year-to-year basis, even though ALL of that difference is due to Google expensing employee options last year.
It's a pretty good trick- "increase" earnings 100% without actually any more money.
