Not so fast. WWW by a mile.

Google Fights!!
e-mail vs. web
E-mail wins! -
Re:Turbulent
Having said that, I still think you'll find "turbulent priest" is the generally accepted version.
Googlefight says you are right. 17.5K hits vs only 866 hits.
However, "Meddelsome Priest" comes in at a close second with 13.4K. -

Re:If the ancient Egyptians used it...
The traditional human lifespan is three score and ten, not four score and ten. GoogleFight proves it!

Re:Thanks Steve
While Steve could have beaten David in a fight, I think David is probably having a little triumphant chuckle to himself as we speak.

"Pluto is a planet" vs "Pluto is not a planet"

Greeness?
Is that the degree to which something grees? Seemed odd, so I conducted some scientific research to back up the claim.
-
Let's settle this
Google fight! Well... that wasn't much of a fight.

Re:IllnessAnd since I can't not beat a dead horse:
Since most definitions of god are as nonsensical as the Easter Bunny, it matters little if one is a strong or a weak atheist. Just because the statement "There is no god." is in the form of an assertion, does not mean it has the burden of proof. This is because theer is an implicit assumption in the statement which is not suggestive by the statement itself. Contrast that to "Billy stopped beating his wife." That question has an implicit, *meaningful* assumption which is that Billy had been beating his wife and the actualy assertion is that this has stopped.

The mentality of a community
The post mentions the "Wisdom of Crowds." Isn't it hard to assume that a crowd will behave consistently wisely?
I wondered about this, so I decided to let "Wisdom of Crowds" and "Mob Rule" fight it out... -
Re:1999: My Life *was* hell; then Columbine
You are right. I can't believe how many people confused the name as I did:

Re:FIXED
While their competitors are saying "do no evil", Yahoo seems to be handing dissidents over to the authorities without hesitation.
Uhh.. Not to nit-pick... ok, yes, to nit-pick (sorry!), I think Yahoo's competitors are saying "Don't be evil" not "Do no evil".
You're not the only one making this mistake.

Re:Time for drastic action soon?
Yes, you're right!

Re:Its probabbly true.
1) Humphrey Davy, the discoverer of the element, named it aluminum.
That was his second choice, after alumium.
2) Charles Hall, the discoverer of the first large-scale economic process for producing the element, also called it aluminum.
How is that relevant?
3) http://googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1= aluminum&word2=aluminium
Case closed. Guess the "rest of the world" isn't quite as large as you'd like to think.
Uh... what? How do Google counts prove anything? They don't even reliably reveal which spelling predominates on websites indexed by Google, since Google's "estimated counts" are notoriously unreliable, one reason why serious linguists long ago gave up trying to use Google's index as a corpus for investigating the English language.
But I guess it's easier for you to sit back in your parochial ignorance and wank over the Stars and Stripes than it is for you to acknowledge that there's a world out here...
P.S. do you also say "molybdenium" and "tantalium"? Didn't think so.
P.S. do you also say "sodum", "potassum", and "magnesum"? Didn't think so. -

Norvig vs. Berners-Lee
Do I hear a Googlefight in the making? Why yes, it's Norvig vs. Berners-Lee.
-
Furthermore, a disagreement
Also, desipte your using Google as a source of reference Google itself clearly disputes your own findings.

Fight!
Now to see who's the bigger and badder moon! Found one, fight!

GoogleFight. Question answered.

Re:Marvelous
the funny thing is that when 'government' is properly spelled, the 'US Government' destroys 'rest of the world.' check it out
-
Re:Marvelous
Dear US Goverment, Good luck with that, but we're fine right now. Yours sincerely, The Rest of the World (PS, we'd kick your ass. Googlefight confirms it!)

As an aside: I thought pornographers embraced piracy for viral marketing and uploaded the "pirated" content themselves? "Hey, this DivX is crap. I want to see Jenna's boobs in high resolution! Where can I buy the DVD?" -

stupid speling trolI never knew "fulfil" is an acceptable alternate spelling of fulfill, but I've never seen it before.
The net agrees: "fulfil" is a very obscure alternate spelling of "fulfill".
What's this about learning to spell?

You don't know, Jack
When you have no data to back your claims, just ask google. Or in this case, googlefight:
http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&wo rd1=Driving+Game&word2=Shooting+Game
http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&wo rd1=Shooting+Death&word2=Driving+Death
Clearly, the increased number of driving games has caused an increased number of driving deaths. Ban Grand Turismo Now!!

Yes, but what does Googlefight think of all this?

And the winner is...
According to one notable handicapping service, the RIAA would win, but just barely. On the other hand, you can see that Free Software kicks the BSA's ass, which suggests a possible alternative.

Re:Cell phones in iraq
I learned a new word today, perjorative, it means belittling. As far as rank goes.. i'm not a big enough of an asshole yet to be a major. On the topic of rank though, a good clue would have been "I'm the guy on the ground with a gun.". Actually.. now that i'm thinking about it - the perjorative that is. Hodgi isn't a belittling comment. I really thought it ment pilgrim or something like that? Besides, there's yanks, brits, japs, and all that. I did a googlefight between yank and hodgi, yank won by a ton. They always called me am-ree-kee anyways. How you turn "American" into that.. who knows. Geez.. i miss hanging out with those guys. ahh, good times.. good times.

Re:optomized vs optimized
"gay sex" also beats "straight sex" by a landslide.

Obviously gay sex is greatly preferred over straight sex. -

Re:Buckle Up
Yes the threat of terrorism is real, but I'm think we have a lot more to fear from our own government than from terrorists.
You are not alone. :) -
Battle of the Distros
It's more interesting if you compare a bunch of search terms.
For example, see how Ubuntu took just a year to become top distro. (And also note how popular Suse is with the Germans compared to everyone else.)
For another upstart, how about Slashdot v. Digg?
I can see this becoming the new Googlefight...

Not griping......since I admit this summary is better than the story I submitted some time ago. But when I submitted this story, the Googleblog post wasn't up. Posting this comment just incase it offers any additional insight to anybody. Oh, and Google Trends seems to be a cross between the Zeitgeist and Google Fight.
Submitted: Thursday May 11, 2006, @09:38AM
Rejected : Thursday May 11, 2006, @09:42AMGoogle has unveiled two new search tools in it's growing inventory of products. Today Google released Google Trends and Google Coop. More information is available at their respective faq pages. While Google Trends seems like a variation of Google Zeitgeist, Google Coop seems like an effort to actively incorporate user feedback into their search engine. No word about this in the Google Blog yet.
