I'm guessing you are not familiar with The Daily Mail then. It has long history of running sensationalist, and frequently fabricated, material. The Daily Mail gets a whole chapter to itself in the excellent book Flat Earth News. Personally, I wouldn't trust the Mail (or the Daily Express) to tell me what day of the week it was.

A few years ago, on the BBC satirical show Mock the Week, Frankie Boyle commented that the quintessential Daily Mail headline would be "Immigrants Carry New Form of AIDS That Lowers House Prices"; completely untrue but guaranteed to push all the hot buttons of their target demographic in the UK.

Ya gotta question these numbers, but there's definitely a trend among developed nations toward not having kids, while better healthcare helps keep people alive longer. I think the former is ok (and if you don't now, someday you will), but not having kinds is a weird offshoot of how our world has evolved. Without a chance at a sustainable income in those golden child-making years (think get a job at the steel mill right out of high-school after knocking up your prom date... see the first half of The Deer Hunter to get a glimpse of those long-gone happy days), if you have anything to do with it you put off having kids, at least until you and your SO (if you have one) have enough reliable income to support the little tyke (or maybe you're lucky enough to have one or more sets of parental units living nearby who offer free nanny service because they really want grandkids).

The putting-off process very easily becomes indefinite. In some countries in Asia and Europe, this is becoming a big deal. Even in the U.S., population numbers are largely because of immigration.

I think we're gonna need those robots. Nice ones who will make our toys, take out the trash, help us up the stairs, mix up the medicine, and wipe our asses, everything the children of immigrants won't do because they're parent made 'em study real hard and make it into Harvard and MIT, so they can major in robotics 'cause maybe that'll make 'em enough money to someday pay off their student loans so they can maybe, you know, get married and have some kids.

Maybe. Gotta work long hours in that industry. Word has it that working in tech is bad for your sex life (if you believe the opinion of an at least semi-crazy gay billionaire).

I enjoyed Flight with Denzel Washington and this story reminds me a little of the plot.
If you haven't seen it then it's an eye opener about the game of "passing the buck", and seeing who get's sued when blame is attributed.

Counted one way, the US people favored Trump. Counted another way, the US people favored Clinton. Almost without exception, political observers now profess a clear preference for the vote-counting method that would have worked best for their favored candidate: Clinton supporters have discovered a new passion for using the aggregate popular vote, while Trump supporters see great virtue in the Electoral College. Politics as usual.

That's an oversimplification. It's likely that if you ask most voters, they didn't favor either choice... they were once again forced to pick their personal lesser of two weevils.

Here's what would happen if they found one on an actual collision course, administration be damned. This is a very good story, but if you're in a hurry, find: "brusquely". I doubt that Bruce Willis could actually do that much.

The premise is different obviously, but the human panic and destruction would be similar. Nature would provide much more fireworks than humans though. Maybe those SHTF bunkers might be useful after all!

There's a massive install base on consoles and mobile devices, they rent servers to people at a very lucrative price point, there's a crap ton of merchandising and don't forget the planned 2019 feature film.

This test is useless - most designers of the machines are hetero men thus they would have chosen a girl for tests as in this movie.

The there is this other thing - in our quest to improve our lot we went on to improve all other things too with economic efficiency being the best factor to decide what is better. Now what would be the final logical conclusion of a system that was set to improve that to the maximum possible value?

Hands down the best Sci Fi in the last decade would have to be 2004 remake of Battlestar Galactica

A simple search on Wikipedia.org will give you some starting (startling) statistics and their sources, as well as some of the organisations who help victims of human trafficking. I read that in places like Amsterdam, where prostitution has been legalised and regulated, legitimate prostitutes make up less than 10%. The rest are trafficked from Eastern Europe and elsewhere.
