Apple Bets Farm on Heterosexual Computing - GNAA Members OffendedSan Francisco, Ca - Mikhail Borovskiy (GNAP) - Moments after the announcement made by Steve Jobs that Apple would be changing the Macintosh computing platform from a PowerPC based CPU architecture to an Intel Pentium based architecture, GNAA executives jesuitx and timecop were visibly shaken. The announcement confirmed rumors started four days prior when C-Net News reported that this change would be taking place. As C-Net News was the first technical news source to report this story, most people assumed the truth would be somewhere near the polar opposite of their findings.
"Guys what is going on? It seems Apple is trying to market towards 'Straighties'! That's never going to work! Fuck Apple, Apple is dead to me, Apple hit WTC!" said jesuitx upon hearing the news. He was later seen backstage speaking with Apple's Vice-President of Marketing, Phil Schiller, quoted as saying "Phil, baby, this is massively fucked up. As a typical Macintosh user, and as a fellow Vice-President of Marketing [Gay Nigger Association of America], I can tell you there's no amount of spin you could put on this that will save you from losing support from the homosexual installed base [all Macintosh users] that has kept Apple Computer alive for so many years!"
timecop, founder and President of GNAA, is expected to renounce Apple and order the immediate purchase of Chinese made IBM computers by its members, 87% of which are Macintosh users, at the July 8th Copperfield Conference to be held in Kyoto, Japan. At the last Copperfield conference, held in Nome, Alaska, timecop had praised Apple for their continuous support of the homosexual community.
About Apple
Until today, Apple Computer was the creator of the Macintosh, popularly known as the "gay computer". 87% of GNAA members were Mac users. Founded in 1974 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Apple was nearly out of business in the mid 90's, when Jobs was rehired. He then started the now infamous iGay marketing scheme which involved both the Step 2 ???? Profit model, and a 100% effort towards marketing to homosexuals. Apple is nowadays run by fuckfaced retards.

Watchmenmy dream is Watchmen as twelve two hour episodes
Looks like we have a common dream. A Watchmen movie is, in fact, being produced but then again, how much will it be toned down from the original?
"Stood in firelight, sweltering. Bloodstain on chest like map of violent new continent. Felt cleansed. Felt dark planet turn under my feet and knew what cats know that makes them scream like babies in night. Looked at sky through smoke heavy with human fat and God was not there. The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever, and we are alone. Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion; bear children, hell-bound as ourselves; go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It's us. Only us. Streets stank of fire. The void breathed hard on my heart, turning its illusions to ice, shattering them. Was reborn then, free to scrawl own design on this morally blank world."
Makes me shiver every time I read that.

Re:We don't need more speakers.
From what I understand, 4 speakers are indeed enough. But only with a *single* person.
Speaking plainly, what you do by increasing the number of speakers you increase the spot in the middle where the sound is not distorted (thus immersive).
Another issue is that while you technically can produce sound that comes from any direction with just 4 speakers, making more than one sound is a bit more tricky. Suppose you need to make it come from the NW speaker and the W one. But then, maybe with proper emulation the human ear will merge them both to NWW sound, not too sure.
Personally though, I don't feel that the audio is immersive enough in most movies... Maybe with the exception of Das Boot I didn't see any movies that truly created sound immersive scenes. -

Re:Communism anyone?
Actually, the Soviets made some of the most interesting and possibly disturbing movies of all time. From what I remember about Soviet media is that all works are property of the State (or people depending on who is giving the speach) and all proceeds when to the government. As far as I know you could copy and distribute if you really wanted since there was no such thing as copyright as long as didn't say anything bad about the state or politics.

Don't see what the big deal is. As I recall, Airwolf could do that all the way back in 1985.

iTron
"TRON, ITRON, and ITRON do not refer to any specific product or products."
This is from the official TRON website.
So now... how are they going to sell something based on nothing.
I too can build and sell the top-notch-most-powerfull stuff ever built.. and I won't be selling it cheap.. oh, of course this would only be theory-reselling.
I've seen nowhere in TFA that this techno is actually going to be used. Bu anyway, if it's gonna be.. maybe we should all beware of the Attach of the Killer Tomatoes which will seek revenge because the fridge just said they were out of date ^^ -

Re:Ppodbuddy probably doesnt exist.
Actually, knowing John Carpenter, it's probably based on some bizarre and not-well-understood alien technology, and will ultimately sprout limbs and forcibly impregnate itself into the hapless driver...

Re:Fine and GoodI remembered reading somewhere on Slashdot that the "I know" line was Ford's invention, and with a little googling, I found this:
During the scene where he is frozen in carbonite in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Carrie Fisher says, "I love you." and Ford was supposed to reply "I love you too." but he suggested changing it to "I know." [1]
Oh well. -
Re:Shadow beam
Funnily enough I saw Cube just before I saw Resident Evil, so I'd seen the idea before - it's used in Cube's memorable opening sequence. Oddly enough, Paul Anderson claims to have never seen Cube - yeah right
But I have no illusions - if I were a film director, I'd be Paul Anderson. -
Re:"It's coming back!"
Except the idea was stolen from Cube
-
Re:Brownstains?
you're quoting the best ep of the series in a post stating that it wasn't
It was my favorite episode when I saw it on TV. Then a several-year gap ensued, during which time I discovered Law & Order reruns, and now it's ruined. ("Is he a black man who happens to be a bounty hunter, or a bounty hunter who happens to be a black man?")The horrors of typecasting. Best of luck to Rey Curtis and Mike Logan, though. I laughed out loud when I saw those TD Waterhouse commercials with Schiff and McCoy. Is Dick Wolf on the Board of Directors or something?

"LifeForce" Beam Over London
In Lifeforce the magnificent (and nearly-empty except for it's deadly cargo) alien ship hovering in orbit over London projects a beam to the city center along which the life force of humans is channelled. The lifeforce beam is running the last half of the movie as chaos reigns. And Mathilda May's role as the beautiful and naked Space Woman is unforgettable.
-
"Slice 'em up" beamsMy vote would go to the boobie trap from the movie Cube that consisted of a moving array of laser beams that sliced a person up likity-split. It was a particularly effective scene because the parallel array of beams only took a second or two to sweep the room, and was very quiet. At first, the audience (except for you, since I'm spoiling it for you - oops!) is wondering if anything really happened. The person is still standing there, apparently unharmed... until another second or two goes by and the sliced slabs of meat that used to be a person start sliding off each other due to gravity. Truly a scene (and a beam) to remember.
The rest of the movie was quite interesting as well, but being a low-budget Canadian artsy movie it isn't for everyone.

Another funny spoof of the famous goldfinger scene was made in "Amore all'italiana" (not much on it found in IMDB).
With the memorable quote, from the bad guy: "and now you're going to see how agent 007 becomes two agents 003 and a half".

One of the most disturbingly funny movies ever made.

MO: sex ray
I kid you not. Flesh Gordon featured the sex ray from the planet Porno. I have to admit i saw that movie and, well, it sucks.
-
Re:Shadow beam
My favorite was the beam in the corridor outside the Red Queen's chamber in Resident Evil. You think the trespassers have a chance, then it switches into checkerboard mode.
-
What about Logan's Run?
Logan's Run has one of the first (if not the first) use of the laser special effects that went on to be used in Star Wars. Other bonuses include Michael York's terrible acting and Jenny Agutter with a minimum of clothing. Apparently a remake is in the works...

Re:Ben
Note for moderators: "I don't get it" == "Off-Topic" evaluates as false.
Parent is quoting the lyrics to the theme song from the movie of the same name. The movie's title character is... wait for it... a rat.
The reference is made even more timely given that the song was performed by Michael Jackson, who's been in the news quite a bit lately.
Parent might or might not be be indulging in copyright infringement rather than "fair use", and might or might not be sufficiently entertaining to deserve a +1 Funny mod, but does not by any reasonable stretch of the imagination merit -1 Off-Topic. -
Sounds Like the Plot of "The Castle"
If you haven't seen it yet, have a look at the Australian film "The Castle"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/
It's about a government-sanctioned corporate grab for land (buying up houses to allow for an expansion to the airport).
The film is a classic here in Australia. Worth seeing. -
"The Castle"
It's not the same situation, but there are definite parallels, and it's a great flick as well.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/
The Castle (1997/I)
A Melbourne family is very happy living where they do, near the Melbourne airport (according to Jane Kennedy, it's "practically their back yard"). However, they are forced to leave their beloved home, by the Government and airport authorities. 'The Castle' is the story of how they fight to remain in their house, taking their case as far as the High Court.
The Kerrigan family are a typical aussie "battler" family and living right next to the airport never seemed to be a problem for them until the airport wants to expand - on to their land. Their initial reaction is "f**k the airport" but it soon becomes obvious that airport is going to get its way - one way or another. This is Dale Kerrigan's story of their battle with the airport to keep their beloved house, along with "bloody good set of gates".

Reminds me of a movie with Tommy Lee Jones, "Stranger on My Land" about how the Air Force tries to use eminent domain to seize a Vietnam vet's farm.

"Are you interested in joining? The benefits are terrific. The trick is not to get killed. That's really the key to the benefit program." - Vince Ricardo (The In-Laws)
Second time today I've quoted this movie on slashdot. He's actually referring to joining the CIA but the sentiment is the same. -
Quotation explained.
"Confidence is high! Repeat! Confidence is high!"
This line is heard in War Games, but is also quoted in the rather curious Dark Side of the Moon (a 1990 film, not the Pink Floyd album).
