GNAA ATTACKED BY INTERNET TERRORISTSGNAA ATTACKED BY INTERNET TERRORISTS
During the night cowardly terrorists claiming to be from p2pchat launched an unprovoked and despicably dastardly attack against Evolnet. Their goal was to disrupt the benign activities of the upstanding organization GNAA (Gay Nigger Association of AmeriKKKa).
Although their motives are completely unknown, seeing as GNAA is universally loved, their affiliations and funding seem to come from some notorious terrorists well known to the GNAA. Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda has endorsed the attacks as "beneficial to the Linux (a communist operating system made by Lunis Torvald from code that he stole from SCO) movement's goal of re-enslaving gay niggers everywhere."
The sinister Zionist organization #politics has also endorsed the attack. It is becoming increasingly clear that they were involved in the recruitment and payment of the script kiddies that perpetrated the attack.
GNAA has promised reprisal for the attack. Being the responsible citizens that they are, they have reported the IP address of at least one of the Jews involved in the attack. They are also looking in to a possible connection between this attack and the attempt to assassinate GNAA president timecop earlier. It is currently believed that #politics is stepping up its deplorable attacks against GNAA.
Recently promoted #GNAA op x_over_ln_x was quoted as saying "bring it on" when asked about #politics' and the Linux community's recent attacks. He may, however, have not heard the question and was referring to the Jewish catamite he was about to rape.

Slow innovation - triggered by monopoly rules
I was reading this, it seems vaguely anti-corporate tinfoil hat-ish (not that I'm a big fan of corporations, but there are so many evil things they do, why waste time beating them up for stuff they don't?)
It keeps on going on with connotations of evil monopolists squashing the guys in the garages like bugs as being the only reasons it's moved slow. Part of the reason is that you want stability in public utilities. Innovation breeds incompatibilites. If I wanted to, I could buy a 1950's rotary phone from eBay and plug it in and still use it (in the movie Cellular Kim basinger takes advantage that teh network still can use the old "micro-disconnect" signals that rotary pulses were). For overclocking, fastest GPU of the week fanboys that may seem quaint, like using MicroChannel on a 386, but to most people the phone just works. The government actually discouraged innovation by capping profit margins. As a regulated monopoly, the phone company was capped to a certain net profit. New business or old, same profit margin. This discouraged innovation, but encouraged stability. Not so much evil as the upside/downside to a decision that is more complex than people would like to think. I'm not sure if they are currently so capped, there's so much breakup and consolidation since the old Ma Bell days, some of the compatibility is probably gone as well. -
Re:Uh, maybe I should go on EBay.
Tsk, that's nothing! I have one of a pair of Origin200's used to create the PowerPuff girls movie.
Ok, so perhaps Wrath of Kahn does have more bragging rights... -

GNAAGNAA Claims Responsibility for Killing 3000 Blogs
GNAA Claims Responsibility for Killing 3000 BlogsGNAUK (the UK branch of the GNAA) consultant rolloffle stood ecstatically in front of the massive GNAUK London office skyscraper. Waving his massive nigger hands for silence, he smiled and announced with glee that the GNAA was the cause of the 3000 blogs outage.
"Well, aw'right, now aw'right! It's due to our persistent shitflooding and blogbashing efforts that we can claim this spectacular victory over a major epicentre of retardery! Congratulations, morons, for you have been pwned! Remember, regular local backups are your friend!"
Having concluded with these statements, the crowd burst into an ambivalent mix of outraged and delighted argument. rolloffle then unzipped his trousers and started to beat back the hordes of angry webloggers and journalists with his gigantic nigger cock, fleeing into a side alley. The massive conglomeration of people then enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display, sending the massive office building of glass and steel smashing to the ground and burying the suckers present.

History
It took 31 years to come from 2D computer digitized image first used in a movie (Westworld) to this. Check out the timeline of CGI in movies for history and screenshots.
Of specific interest is the Matrix: Revolutions, which had the most realistic computer recreation of a human (agent) face. And then this face was smacked by a 100% CGI Keanu Reaves hand. Recreating humans is easy. My estimate is that in 2007-2008 we will see a 100% CGI film that would look like real thing, with AI agent in lead roles and all.
Also expect CGI sets to proliferate extremely quickly. There already are Immortel (ad vitam), Casshern, and Sin City that use the same technique. Expect tens more in the upcoming year. -

He claimed during the 1960 presidential campaign
An interesting chunk of history, the details of which I was unaware until I recently rented Fog of War.
Now that the DVD is out on rental, it's really worth picking up and seeing this historical narrative with McNamara.
At one point he relates how he discovered, a couple of weeks after JFK got into office, that the missile gap didn't exist. A sticky political situation at the time.

Re:Defense in depth.
"True that the *nix server could be affected, but it's really due to a compromise on the MS Win32 system."
Yup. But infected is infected.
The *nix box won't be affected by any of those viruses, but the machines it shares them with can be infected. And that infection can put a load on the network (particularly the viruses that do scanning).
Imagine you are Milla Jovovich, the Unix server. You find yourself strangely modified by the Umbrella Corporation, the internet at large, to be stronger than all the other and strangely resistant to infections. Everything about that is hunky dory, true, but when 5,000 zombies come chasing after you for no good reason other than that they are hungry (for bandwidth, mind) then you find yourself suddenly bothered.
It's not that you can be infected, it's that there are lots of them, and they're attacking you regardless of vulnerability. -
Re:Party like its...
The AC above is right. The limitation of liability applies to the individuals in the partnership.
In a plain old partnership, the company is just a group of people. If somebody sues the business, they're really suing the owners. In an LLC the company is a separate entity and the individuals are not completely responsible for it, like in a regular corporation.
This potentially leads to the sort of abuses they documented in The Corporation, in which they likened a company to a sociopathic human, with the rights of a person but no conscience. But the overall goal is a good one: allow people to form partnerships without making one person completely responsible for the misdeeds of the other.
It also creates an object that you can sell; that is, if you own a piece of an LLC you can break off the partnership by selling it to somebody else. That sort of liquidity makes funding new companies a lot more flexible.
For the most part think of "LLC" as just like "Inc" or "Co" attached to the name. There are tax differences (the income of the company is treated as income of the partners), but the liability issues are more like corporations than like partnerships or sole proprietorships.
That's just the legal answer to your point. The article, itself, appears to be a troll. -
Uh...As I saw on Discovery once... There are thousands of natural antibiotics which are extremely complex. Some can be taken from cactae in South America, some can be taken from certain species of ants.
I thought that was a movie about finding a cure for cancer...
As I understand Tuberculosis has never been treatable by penicilin or variants, only the other infections that happen as the result of a weakened body and immune system.

Re:Real stuff
Wasn't Space:1999 the show with Martin Landau and Barbara Bain? That went on the air back around '69, '70, '71.
1975, actually. But yes, it preceded 'Star Wars.'

Immortel (Immortal)
Go see this film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314063/ Same deal, digital set, digital characters. Its not the greatest film ever, but truly worth seeing at least once for the visuals.

Re:Sky Caps does not look 'real'Doing everything with computer-generated graphics is done all the time, as long as you don't include voice: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
In the case of SCatWoT, you've got a virtual set. If the actors involved can pull off decent performances lacking even a mockup environment to feed off of, then good for them.

Re:Chroma Key
> You can occasionally see a goof where some part of the meteorologist's wardrobe is too close to the screen's color, and the map "bleeds through" and the person appears "hollow".
This reminded me of Groundhog Day, where you can see how the whole thing works right at the beginning. They had a blue screen, BTW. -
Like Final Fantasy, but with real actorsThis isn't much of a technical advance. Remember Final Fantasy, three years ago? Even the actors were CG. And "Spy Kids 3D", another all-green-screen epic. Most of the actors were never even in the same room at the same time.
It was supposed to be a low-budget movie, but it ended up costing $70 million, when the original filmmaker couldn't bring it off on schedule and they had to outsource to a half dozen of the usual effects studios. It's somewhat discouraging to see how expensive computer animation still is. It's not the equipment cost any more. It's the army of artists. We've gotten rid of the "cast of thousands", but we now have the "animation team of thousands". (This has major offshoring implications. Look for more effects films from China.)
The look of the film is good, but not original. The opening scene is a blatant rip-off of the Centropolis Entertainment logo scene, first shown in 1998 on Godzilla.

This really is the future of filmmaking...
The upcoming Sin City (based on Frank Miller's graphic novel series, and it's directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller) uses a similar filmmaking technique as "Sky Captain," although not to the same degree. An FAQ is here.
Compare the behind-the-scenes footage to the trailer that was shown at this summer's San Diego Comic-Con (they had originally posted a 640x480 version but it's been replaced by a 480x272 version).
Check it out (there's a brief topless scene, so it's not SFW), if only for the shots of Jessica Alba dancing around seductively in leather chaps. :) -

Re:So most audiences didn't see Star Wars?
Whereas in Star Wars, Lucas is in love with his new found ability to change stuff at the last minute and not let any of this second-opinion peer-review stuff get in the way of his "vision" getting heaped in a big pile of pixels.
I guess this started with Return of the Jedi, when, in order to keep the story ending secret to the last minute, he shot the actors doing really ambiguous stuff, to insure they could not figure it out. He then fixed it all in the cutting room...(If you ask me, I would have made ROTJ end up with Luke flipping to the dark side seconds before the Death Star II was blown-up, and he would have been considered a martyr by the rebels...)

Just another buzzline
"how the movie is 'unlike anything most audiences have seen before"
I heard that same thing about Battlefield Earth before I saw it. -
Re:What Does "Han Shoots First" Mean?
(got the quote)
In an interview for the Criterion collection DVD, George Lucas states that while this film is a story a story about a princess and her protectors that this is not the element inspired Star Wars. Lucas states the inspiration comes from the telling of the story through the eyes of two smaller roles. In Hidden Fortress it is the two thieves, in Star Wars it is C3PO and R2D2.

Re:Something to remember
No its not. An honest person does not steal people's bikes.
An honest person can steal another person's bike, if it is in a full lot of identically looking bikes. But in this case, it's not intentional theft. :)
The problem with the locks and security measures is that they aren't intellegent. In theory, any person who has a valid key can pass the lock without anybody thinking that it is suspicious.
The purpose of all locks and security measures are to make it more difficult to steal stuff. The value of the stuff is roughly proportional to the complexity of the lock. The lock on my front door is not that big. The lock on Fort Knox is probably much bigger.
The only way a lock can truly work is if it is backed by something intellegent that can confirm whether or not the person entering is valid (as well as the fact that the lock is intact). For example, the lock on Fort Knox is not only big, but it is being observed at all times to make sure that nobody is trying to sneak or break in. A system that does not contain an intellegent component will eventually get broken into, even if it is in a cheap movie. -
Re:Ah, sweet Elastigirl!
-
Re:This doesn't just affect Kryptonite locksThe Kryptonite locks use the Ace or Ace II barrel, according to the forums I've been following. The former mechanism is somewhat easier to open using the pen exploit than the latter, but there are multiple reports of both types of mechanisms being opened. Same goes for the Kryptonite EV Disc lock.
Further, even Kryptonite's (and other lock companys') New York models have been reported vulnerable to this attack.
For readers who aren't aware, Kryptonite and other companies have special New York models to thwart the mutant underground-dwelling cannibalistic bike thieves common to Manhattan and surrounding boroughs. Kryptonite does not warrantee most of its locks for use in New York.

Judging by this thread, it seems like "citizen science" is about as popular as "Citizens on Patrol."

Re:Interesting article...Better believe they believe it. This bit of American politics absolutely fascinates me, so I've managed to learn a bit about it. Some links:
- Militia of Montana (MOM) -- one of the better known Militia/Patriot groups
- Genesis Communications -- Internet radio station that carries a lot of very paranoid people. Sometimes they've got a point, sometimes they're off the deep end (IMHO)
- Alex Jones -- Gotta check him out. Listen to his show, and watch for the Darth Vader theme. Highly amusing; he sponsored a showing of They Live! a while back as an introduction to how They rule the world
- David Icke -- British. Shape-shifting lizards rule the world and are performing rape and blood sacrifice behind closed doors. Absolutely incredible.
- Texe Marrs -- Texas fundamentalist preacher (who, it just so happens, I interviewed a few years back) who believes that Satan pretty much owns the IRS, the UN, and every other government around
That's enough to get you started...if you're not gibbering on the floor when you finish reading, you'll be fine.

ironic hilarity
Here is a story on IMDb about Lucas and his thoughts on Hollywood:
post at IMDb
Choice quote from the master of looks over substance: (Hollywood is) "making hugely inefficient movies for great amounts of money and they aren't creatively very interesting."
I wonder if the people who say one thing and do another (like Lucas and the Douchebag of Liberty, Robert Novak) realize they are doing it or if they truly think they are special and doing the right thing. -
Re:in theaters?
There's always IMDB's handy map of theaters. Not sure how accurate / current it is, but it looks nice (if depressing, for those of us not in a major urban center).

What is it with these Frankenstein plots? From looking at the trailer this looks like another Frankenstein plot. Mad scientist creates artificial human, artificial human has problems. Same plot in Blade Runner, etc. Can't anyone think of any new Sci-fi plots already?
Frankenstein returns 1163 matches on IMDB so I think this qualifies as a cliche. Take a look at the plot summary of the original if you don't believe this is in the same tradition.
Tagline: A Monster Science Created - But Could Not Destroy! Plot Outline: Frankenstein creates a true android from dead human parts, but it gets out of his control and gets into trouble

Re:how's it ?
You should check out this IMDB board posting.
Apparently there were 'massive walkouts at the Cannes' and a 30% Rotten Tomatoes rating (which is very bad). I quote:
The common complaint among critics is that while the movie is beautiful, it is souless with too much technological mumbo jumbo and not enough likable characters. The story is said to be at once extremely convaluted and boring with action sequences too far between and countless uniteresting quotes form philosophers or the bible hindering the story.
So althought it saddens me to say this, it really doesn't look like it's worth checking out. That said, everyone is different, and this is just the critics' opinion. -

Re:Encryption Circumvention Devices? It's not very hard to ignore, just turn off the TV! I've never heard Ashley Simpson. I have no idea who JLo is married to, etc..
Well, I for one like TV. But not all TV. It seems to be getting worse though, even the stations I used to watch all the time (TLC, Discovery) are turning into Reality or Makeover TV nightmares. And I am even willing to admit that I like some of that stuff sometimes. So I don't want to give up television, but I am by no means chained to it.
I have actually learned a LOT from TV. Reading a cookbook is fine, but I am a visual learner. Seeing someone do something teaches me more than just reading about it. If it weren't for the Food Network, Discovery, and TLC I would probably shut off my cable. My bad habit is that I flip around during commercials, because I hate commercials. So I run across all kinds of stuff, and have actually discovered a few good shows like that. Unfortunately, I see all kind of stuff that also angries up the blood.
Oh, and I think JLo is married to Marc Anthony, who is a Latin singer, but I'll always remember him from the movie The Substitute. Did you also know he was in Hackers ? I hear the women at work talking about all this crap during the day. Thank Jebus for headphones.

Re:Non-Americans
If he loses the elections, no future president will dare attacking a contemptuous tyrant
They certainly won't do it in the haphazard, unplanned, unilateral and arrogant way Bush did.Another empty spinning attempt... Even if you are right, it is, in my strong opinion, much better to have done it imperfectly, than not at all.
unilaterally without UN support, is exactly the kind arrogance thats gotten us into so much trouble already.
Our foreign policy is and should be affected by UN and other foreigners, but it shouldn't be dictated by them. Like old age to youth, certain UN-members were trying to prevent us from doing, what they simply could not do themselves (any more). It is not the arrogance, that's hurting us -- people, complaining about it, are not our enemies nor were they ever our helpful friends.
UN was trying bring peace to Yugoslavia for many years and became the sad laughing stock of Yugoslavs on all sides. In Somalia, UN was distributing food to, essensially, the local warlords. Clinton was convinced to try to fight some of them, but his overadherence to UN reduced the punch's power and 19 Americans died (plus hundreds of Somalians).
That Bush found "the minerals" to axe through the Gordian knot of politics, which Saddam was able to use for over a decade to mock us and the UN, is why I'm on the Bush's side. The removal of the contemptuous despot was not, of course, the whole reason for the action, but most of the objections heard from the opposing countries are not any more sincere.
The demonstration of America's willingness to attack (in addition to its already well known ability) was quite useful. Already Gaddafi bent over and Charles Taylor fled. It may even work on North Korea, who make no secret of their waiting for the results of this elections. Guess, who those thugs prefer?

Rodney Brooks said it bestWhen an ant walks, it's falling over all the time. The trick is that it catches itself with its legs.
You can get a load of his work from the documentary Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control.
