Windows Phone 8 has only been on sale a few days, so there is no possible way you could be confident in that.

Most concussed people know something wrong. Some choose to ignore it.
Most "sober non-drug using people" would agree that some of the best literary, artistic and musical material ever produced was created "under the influence" (see top selling music sales figures, read alice in wonderland etc.). Popular culture has always been "inspired" in some way shape or form by the influence of mind altering substances. Caffeine is a good example.
As you mention - it probably is a bad idea and I'm sure many injured their brains, livers and lives in the process. No argument there.
That's not the point though. The point is whether or not the drug helped their creative process in such a way that they wouldn't have been able to do without. And whether it could give Programmers a brain boost in a similar fashion.

Actually, it looks like San Jose State University 'seceded' and decided to award Cisco $28 million. There is a followup here: http://www.networkworld.com/community/blog/ciscogate To add a little background: I worked in networking for one of the CSU campuses for about 4 years, and worked under Michel Davidoff, the man from the article that ran the vendor bakeoff. The process of choosing equipment vendors has always been extremely transparent, and Michel's approach to the vendors has always been "Okay, these are your taxpayer dollars, show us how you can keep prices low to help your childs education". Training, and support costs were always built into these models, and Cisco actually was the equipment vendor for at least 5+ years. I am *very* surprised that SJSU has gone against the fiscally-sound approach that the Chancellor's office has chosen. I haven't been in the CSU system for years, but isn't this skipping some sort of legal RFP process?

Custom hosts are BETTER on a number of grounds vs. AdBlock:
1.) HOSTS files are useable for all these purposes because they are present on all Operating Systems that have a BSD based IP stack (even ANDROID) and do adblocking for ANY webbrowser, email program, etc. (any webbound program). A truly "multi-platform" UNIVERSAL solution for added speed, security, reliability, & even anonymity to an extent (vs. DNS request logs + DNSBL's you feel are unjust hosts get you past/around).
2.) Adblock blocks ads? Well, not anymore & certainly not as well by default, apparently, lol - see below:

Adblock doesn't allow you to hardcode in your favorite websites into it so you don't make DNS server calls and so you can avoid tracking by DNS request logs, OR make you reach them faster since you resolve host-domain names LOCALLY w/ hosts out of cached memory, hosts do ALL of those things (DNS servers are also being abused by the Chinese lately and by the Kaminsky flaw -> http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/082908-kaminsky-flaw-prompts-dns-server.html for years now). Hosts protect against those problems via hardcodes of your fav sites (you should verify against the TLD that does nothing but cache IPAddress-to-domainname/hostname resolutions (in-addr.arpa) via NSLOOKUP, PINGS (ping -a in Windows - functions for "reverse DNS lookups"), &/or WHOIS though, regularly, so you have the correct IP & it's current)).
* NOW - Some folks MAY think that putting an IP address alone into your browser's address bar will be enough, so why bother with HOSTS, right? WRONG - Putting IP address in your browser won't always work IS WHY. Some IP adresses host several domains & need the site name to give you the right page you're after is why. So for some sites only the HOSTS file option will work!
6.) Hosts files don't eat up CPU cycles (or ELECTRICITY) like AdBlock does while it parses a webpages' content, nor as much as a DNS server does while it runs. HOSTS file are merely a FILTER for the kernel mode/PnP TCP/IP subsystem, which runs FAR FASTER & MORE EFFICIENTLY than any ring 3/rpl3/usermode app can since hosts files run in MORE EFFICIENT & FASTER Ring 0/RPL 0/Kernelmode operations acting merely as a filter for the IP stack (via the "Plug-N-Play

RIM's main problem is that enterprise companies have started moving away from the platform. People don't want to carry around several smart phones and are much more eager to choose either iPhone or WP7 phones. Microsoft is known for being the office centric company and therefore has fantastic support for Exchange server and office apps. RIM lost the audience it had when Windows Phones were introduced (while Windows Mobile also had many work users, WP was a major improvement)..
While you present an interesting theory, reality is that noone is using Windows Phone. They had a market share of 3% of smartphones shipped. iPhone in particular and Android are the ones eating Blackberry's lunch. To make this even worse, this quarter Windows Phone is currently only sold on known obsolete phones. I'm glad I didn't get suckered into buying a phone that obsolete immediately, unlike Nexus Phones and iPhones.

WiFi Spectrum Overused
The WiFi spectrum is highly saturated already with WiFi netowrks. Yet so many projects continue to utilize the WiFi spectrum for stuff other than traditional WiFi uses.
Here we have an article about a mesh WiFi network(unreliable) for first responders! Let's hope that first responders are going to use a frequency that is reserved fro their sole use, mesh or otherwise and that they will not be trying to shoehorn themselves into the already overcrowded WiFi spectrum.
Also today, I saw an article about WiFi connected car crash avoidance.
Using WiFi for these functions is inherently stupid!

Torvalds wasn't happy with the extensive changes, most of which he said he received Friday and Saturday, saying "not cool, guys" in the announcement. However, the occasionally combustible kernel curator didn't appear to view this as a major setback.
"Now, admittedly, most of this is pretty small. The loadavg calculation fix patch is pretty big, but quite a lot of that is added comments," he wrote, referring to the subroutine that measures system workload.
However, he noted, there were also the assorted changes for SoCs, PowerPC compatibility, USB and audio to be folded in, forcing a comparatively large RC7.
"Ok, so it's still not *huge*, but it's bigger than -rc6 was. I had hoped for less," wrote Torvalds.
He also hopes that it won't be necessary to deploy an eighth release candidate before Version 3.5 of the kernel can be properly rolled out, and urged the community to "go forth and test."
Among the biggest new features expected in Linux 3.5 is enhanced compatibility with the ARM processor family, which are used in a wide array of low-cost computing devices. Several ARM-related fixes are part of 3.5-RC7, according to the official announcement email and changelog.

Over AdBlock & DNS Servers ALONE 4 Security, Speed, Reliability, & Anonymity (to an extent vs. DNSBL's + DNS request logs):
1.) HOSTS files are useable for all these purposes because they are present on all Operating Systems that have a BSD based IP stack (even ANDROID) and do adblocking for ANY webbrowser, email program, etc. (any webbound program). A truly "multi-platform" UNIVERSAL solution for added speed, security, reliability, & even anonymity to an extent (vs. DNS request logs + DNSBL's you feel are unjust hosts get you past/around).
2.) Adblock blocks ads? Well, not anymore & certainly not as well by default, apparently, lol - see below:

Only reason why the DNS server would be down on my system is if I shutdown the daemon or turned off the computer - It runs on the same system and makes little difference when it comes to performance since my Linux systems use caching DNS daemons otherwise.

I haven't noticed the difference honestly, it's that insignificant. Maybe if I was still on a 200Mhz system though...

The DNS caching daemon most distros use end up being just specialized configurations of DNS servers. Sorry, I don't run my systems without a DNS cache, so I'm unlikely to see any of these benefits. Nor do I even notice any CPU usage being used up from using it?

HOSTS files will allow you to get to sites you like, via hardcoding your favs into a HOSTS file, FAR faster than remote DNS servers can, by FAR (by saving the roundtrip inquiry time to a DNS server, typically 30-100's of ms, vs. 7-10ms HardDisk speed of access/seek + SSD seek in ns, & back to you - hosts resolutions of IP address for host-domain names is FAR faster...). Hosts are only a filter for an already fast & efficient IP stack, no more layered b.s. (remote OR local).
