Re:I downloaded Chromium a few days ago
Though I still really wish I had Ghostery and NoScript.
IMO there is no need for them with a good HTTP proxy like Privoxy. Add a bit of Incognito use and a good user.action file, and all is great. I made my own user.action file ages ago from the MVPs.org hosts file, and ever since the world has been good. It's here if you are interested.

Example of a virus from Image Shack.
A friend of mine had her machine infected with one of the imageshack exploits. It was basically a double extension EXE, labelled like Aphoto.jpg__________________.exe
She wasn't paying much attention and had hit OK when prompted to run the program. So her computer had started sending me MSN links to similar images hosted on ImageShack.
Here's the EXE that I got sent.
Someone I was chatting with in a technology IRC chatroom had run the virus in a VM, and it apparently has code to detect the presence of a VM, rapes your registry, spreads itself to multiple EXEs across your system, and a bunch of other weird things. The code is apparently run through one of those code masher programs to prevent decompilers.

Does SpaceBalls have any Animal Sex in it?
I mean, the main actor Jon Candy (which I admit sounds like a porn-actor's name), is half-dog and will eventually get laid. How many times has the main actor, in passenger chair, been called a pig?
Well, I have just the thing for those 1970's styled half-mated twits. Animal Sex.

Yeah they fail on removing files. I ran browzar (silver addition) in sandboxie http://www.sandboxie.com/ and it left behind 34 files, 16 folders for a total 1.72mb of stuff that they claim shouldn't be there. You can view what was left behind here (zipped) http://rapidshare.de/files/31863264/Browzar_Stuff

Requirements: Python 2.4 pydbg and ctypes packages (included)
Supported iTunes versions: 6.0.4-6.0.5
Usage: 1) Start iTunes 2) Start QTFairUse6.py. 4) Play your protected track(s) in iTunes. Each track will be written into a separate dump_NN.aac file. 5) To make them playable in winamp, convert the raw streams to ADTS using FAAD: faad.exe -a output.aac dump_NN.aac

SSN RegEx of the AOL data

The results of two very basic regex searches through the AOL data

Proxies forever, problem now.
Proxies have been forever, and have been the problem forever. But mass access to the Internet and real problems resulting from it happen now. Proxies and blocking access are just a small countermeasure...
A story of yesterday night:
- anonymous at /b/[NSFW] finds a way to find separate private user profiles on Photobucket in the recent[possible NSFW] directory.
- more /b/tards embark on a quest for more amateur porn by watching this page.
- they find about 80 pics of a girl naked, masturbating.
- they find out more about that girl, including her myspace and Xanga profiles.
- They find out she's 15. Making essentially the pics of her very illegal.
- They post the pics wherever they can, her school, her friends.
- She deletes the pics and the profiles, but the profiles are in caches, the pics already packed on Rapidshare[NSFW, NSFH, and highly illegal!]
- They contact her, fill her up on the story with lots of lies including that her boyfriend was the one who published the pics.
- Her profile on myspace gets ".-*forever loved*-." header. Rumors of her suicide start popping up. Quite likely she's dead by now.
Now of course a proxy-blocking firewall wouldn't help here.
But let's see: web 2.0 sites made this possible - forum, photo sharing, file sharing, profile site.
Unlimited access to the net for the kid and for reckles teens from /b/. Wouldn't happen if not that.
Think of your own reflections. It's not about proxies. It's about kids with access to what they shouldn't be able to access. -

Re:The easiest way to eliminate most spam .....
Seriously, the spammers will adapt no matter when anti-spam tactics you use.
They 'cannot' beat the filtering I use now...
Not long ago, I added a form of rbl support to a personal copy of My homebrew Windows email client freebie and the results were 'amazing'....
Essentially NO spam gets through now!
Recently, one got through so I spent a few minutes to take care of it.
The only drawback to using a rbl is that it can be inaccurate if an innocent party starts using a blacklisted IP. But in the real world due to laziness, inertia, and corporate indifference, that is quite unlikely.... :P
The 2nd half of my approach uses a few rules that simply take away the ASCII characters a spammer is likely to use in their message. I patently refuse such email at iamcf13@hotpop.com so they get deleted immediately.
All the spammers are doing is wasting the small amount of time and computing resources it takes me to get my email with this 'updated' program. But usually I am doing something else of importance at the time so presumably no time is wasted at all...
My approach is 'transparent' with the current email system and could be useful -- nowadays there is talk of replacing the current, spammed out system for something else -- a likely far remote possibility....
Food for thought.... :)
P.S. Shout/mod me down if you want but you have to admit, Baysean spam filtering is just not working anymore. Challenge/response is cumbersome, considered 'bad manners' by some, and can generate more unwanted email messages. How about giving a different approach such as mine a try?.... -

Hmmm... Lets's See...
I've been given a Corel Draw Document (.cdr) as cover art for (charity) music CD... They accept... Illustrator...
I don't know the first thing about any of this, but I do know that Illustrator files end in ".ai", so I googled thusly:
Converting .cdr to .ai
The first hit I got was to this discussion from about three months ago:
Convert CDR to AI or EPS
It sounds like Corel Draw can export to either AI or EPS, so I'd say that you would want to call up the people who burned the original CDR file, and ask them, "Could you please open the file, and choose either 'File | Save As... | Adobe Illustrator (AI)' or 'File | Save As... | Encapsulated PostScript (EPS)'? And then either mail me the file on a CD-ROM, or upload the file to a site like RapidShare, and then email me a link to the uploaded file so that I can download it? Thanks!"
If they have broadband, and if they upload to RapidShare, then the whole experience shouldn't take much more than about ten minutes. If they burn the file to a CD-ROM and snail-mail it to you, then it could take the better part of a week [or more]. -

Re:Article - 3 ways to avoid ads.... :)
The reason these stories on Slashdot are useless is because all of the slashbots here will be screaming "I don't want ads!". Well, tough shit. Advertising is part of our world and culture and they are coming to video games whether you want them to or not.
There are 3 ways to avoid advertising. Here they are:
1) Die. Seriously. Then your problems with advertising will be all over for good. The drawback is that it is permanent [depending on your beliefs in an afterlife.... :) ].
2) Live 'off the grid' on public/private land with NONE of the technological amenities of modern civilization other than (maybe) a P.O. box or other suitable 'mail drop' (but then the ad men will probably get ahold of it and still send you junk mail! :P). I like how the USPS's definiton of '1st Class Mail' only covers bills/invoices/purchase orders/related whatnot, financial statements/legal papers/government correspondence, checks and equivalents, and handwritten personal correspondence. To them, everything else that is not a periodical or parcel of some kind is considered bulk mail and is fair game for recycling/disposal. :)
3) Use the technologies at hand to minimize/eliminate your exposure to advertising. Some examples:
3a) Digital Video Recorders with 'adskip' (if you can still buy 'em or build 'em). If push comes to shove, hang on to your VCRs and use them instead.
3b) DVD Players that ignore Prohibited User Operation(s) (and region codeds as well!). Yay, no more FBI warnings/trailers/long animated menus before the movie! :) (the animated menu on Disney's Lion King DVD is notoriously long! :P) If you live in the USA and are thinking 'FVCK THE DMCA(.pdf)!!!!' there is software out there that will allow you to 'remaster' a commercial DVD to remove 'all' unwanted content. Non-USA world citizens don't have this worry (lucky them!)
3c) Ad blocking hosts file for your webbrowser such as this one. Use a 'surfer friendly' web browser like Off By One that ignores Flash and popup windows because it doesn't understand the SCRIPT and OBJECT HTML tags I am using it now to write this post instead of IE 5 that came with Windows 2000. Slashdot looks like crap in IE 5 so I gave up on it and am now using Off By One to surf Slashdot--much nicer! If you have to/want to use a 3rd party popup blocker, I heartily recommend NoAds
On Windows and tired of email spam? Filter it out with my absolutely free gift back to the Internet community at large who can use it. Since I started using it, my email spam has dropped to essentially zero. Attention Mods. before you mod this post down as spam/karmawhoring, consider 'going after' Roland Piquepaille first who always seems to get a story posted here no matter how trivial it is sometimes...or the multpage 'adfest' stories mentioned here from Tom's Hardware.
P.S. Sorry, I have no solution to public restroom advertising other than to keep your eyes closed while you do your business, use a 100% ad-free bathroom, or risk being arrested for defecating/urinating in public....
"The writing is on the wall" Indeed. Legal, for-profit commercial graffiti.... :P -

Disclaimer: I wrote it. I use it. It's 100% free (keep your money).
It was available at my website (more info here if you want to read it) but it got 'Slashdotted' and was 'removed'. So I finally got around to updating it with statistics logging to 'prove' it's effectiveness, to accommodate 'flakey' mailservers that might not like a highly efficient POP3 client accessing them, and to treat 'highbit' email the same as file attachments (email is historically a 7-bit protocol) and posting it on http://rapidshare.de/ at the 'sig' URL above. Linuxbeak is a deranged pedophile
He is also a defender of pedophiles' rights to express their twisted viewpoints on the Wikipedia. What a relativist schmuck. Seriously, people like Alex are the reason Wikipedia is such a watered-down crowdist institution - a collection of what's "popular" and "meets consensus" (i.e. is inoffensive, including to child molesters).
With recent events like bloggers stooping to murder, rape, and cannibalism, it would appear that the detachment from judgment and community standards which represents the average internet addict, following in the ways of relativist scum like Linuxbeak, leads to the darkest corners of a human soul. -
Re:file size / compressopmg
For larger files, most people probably won't want to view it in the browser anyway, so I upload to RapidShare ( http://www.rapidshare.de/ ) which allows a maximum of 100MB and unlimited downloads.
http://www.badongo.com/
http://www.uploadjar.com/ -
file size / compressopmg
Maybe not as big as a factor anymore, but filesize is and no compression are the 2 features I look for. Ability to edit online is fine and dandy, but I can already recompress, re-encode, and edit on my machine already. What I need is a service which will not decrease the quality after my upload to conserve bandwidth and allow a good max size, now that video quality is up to the HDTV era.
Google Video I believe doesn't have a max file size limit, but they do recompress your video to whatever codec they use.
Youtube (not sure about file size limit), but after re-enconding into FLV, the quality is pretty depressing.
I haven't tried the others listed on the site, but I currently use PutFile ( http://www.putfile.com/ ). They have a limit of 25MB for videos and no longer allows direct downoading, but they're decent and actually play back the original file. For larger files, most people probably won't want to view it in the browser anyway, so I upload to RapidShare ( http://www.rapidshare.de/ ) which allows a maximum of 100MB and unlimited downloads. Though for anyone that's used RapidShare, you know about the wait times. -

Re:EducationThere is a free service called yousendit.com that allows one to post a file using a web form, then it sends an email with just the URL...I am a little leary of a free hosted service (could use this to build spam lists, or eavesdrop on your files, etc.)
I use this for distributing largish files; anything over 5 MB. Less than that I put on my free ISP webspace.
I trust them fairly well, but as a matter of policy use only a disposable email account with them. After the upload I copy the resulting URL and distribute it myself rather then let them do it, so they don't have any addresses. Also their files expire after a week, which is fine by me. If you were worried about security, there are many encryption methods; eg just compress with Winrar and a password is pretty secure. There are others you see around, prominently Rapidshare.de, which is better for sending to many people, size limit 100 MB (though it makes you wait 30 seconds unless you have a "premium" account).
I don't really expect any of these to be permanent, so hosting inhouse would be a longer-term solution for a company. Most simply, just an FTP server is fine; if you have a web host you probably already have that available. I set up an FTP server many years ago when I noticed people in our company sending 10+ MB files around as email attachments; really painful using 28k modems, and blowing our mail quota. It should be noted that email attachments are ASCII encoded (probably base-64), and so about 30% larger than the original binary file. Using http or ftp is that much more efficient, especially important on modem lines.

something else to tryThere are sites out there that can provide you with bandwith. Sort of, that is. What I might do is host the webpage itself on your home computer, then link to one of the following for the actual distro.
http://www.rapidshare.de/ --> 100mb max size, limited downloads/hour, but it might work if you rar the distro.
http://www.megaupload.com/ --> real slow, 250mb max size
http://www.filefront.com/ --> not sure if they allow non-game related stuff, send 'em an email. Their speeds are slow but not bad (80-100k), and they would let you host the distro in one chunk, rather than needing rar files.Couple more I haven't tried:
http://www.uploadport.com/ --> Heard it had mixed speeds, and limits files to 100mb
http://www.megashares.com/ --> Have heard good things about it. Pretty fast, and will allow 1.5 gig files. -
See?
See? Now your score is icking up.
The easiest trick, short of the hot grits and petrifying ms. Portman, is linking to a juicy video, like this 43 MB catsuit extravaganza: http://rapidshare.de/files/7978013/silver_and_blac k.avi.html

Re:GOD DAMN SHE'S UGLYHere is a little (43 MB) clip of the developerettes where I work. Dress code is a little unusual, but hey, who is complaining?? Enjoy...

The New Model for FilesharingMeanwhile much of the filesharing community has moved on to new models. The latest? Upload your files to http://rapidshare.de/ or http://www.megaupload.com/ or http://www.sendspace.com/ or http://www.uploading.com/ or http://www.mytempdir.com/ or http://hyperupload.com/ or http://www.savefile.com/ or http://www.turboupload.com/. How do people find files there? Mostly through Russian sites, since they still have a pretty loose view of intellectual property law enforcement there. Sites like http://www.inethouse.net/ and http://www.avaxhome.ru/ and http://www.blueportal.org/ and http://netz.ru/. At least one site is Spanish http://www.mocosoft.com/principal.htm (warning: adult content advertising) and there is even a music site on Blogspot with ALL the latest albums--http://regnyouth.blogspot.com/--run by a guy from Pennsylvania; I don't quite understand why the RIAA has not put out a hit on this guy yet. There's also an exhaustive listing of all the stuff on Rapidshare at http://rapidshared.org/; I love their disclaimer which says "rapidshare.de does not tolerate any illegal or copyrighted materials - so this site cannot include any as well." Yeah, right.
On top of that, serious filesharers don't use Kazaa anyway; they all use Limewire instead.
