Re:No public drug use
Companies should not be permitted to profit from the sale of addictive substances for recreational purposes.
like tobacco in cigarettes?
or the 200 other ingredients in there to get you addicted?
The poster is saying what's typically said. You would think that selling a highly addictive substances for recreational purposes would make you rich and invincible, entire nations hopelessly enslaved by your product. Addict-zombie attack. But you'd be wrong.
Sometimes, the answer isn't the easy one. The lesson painfully learned from prohibition is that prohibition raises demand, not lowers it.
On the other hand, education and regulation, not out-and-out bans, really work. Tobacco smoking in the U.S. used to be around 50% in the Don Draper years. Now it's under 20 and still dropping. Tobacco companies are having to merge to maintain market share.
The difference is between people politely, but firmly, told to take their habit outside or into a (dirty) designated area or else you'll get a fine, and police breaking down doors and throwing flash-bombs that kill your grandma with a heart attack (because the Informant lied, and the Chief gave the green-light because the Politician wanted to go on the news that evening with pictures of drugs on the table.

Game Framework
You'll probably want to pick up a framework that will provide a game engine or the tools to make your own. Why reinvent the wheel? If you're looking to stick with c# try Unity. Many popular games are written, or prototyped, in Unity. Unity is a game engine, and game making tool set, that will allow you to relatively easily make a playable piece of software. The only drawbacks for Unity are it costs money and has less flexibility; if you don't pay for it they display a 2-3 second ad at the start of your game and if you wanted to implement some quirky new mechanic into your game it may be more difficult than if you had also written the engine. Xamarin is another option, but it is also not cheap.
There are frameworks out there for making your own engine. The one I like is Libgdx, it is fast, free, and easy to use (its in Java but knowing C# that shouldn't matter). This also comes with Box2d, which I would highly recommend if you ever make a physics based game, or just wanna add realistic physics to any game. Box2d is used in many of the most successful mobile games: Angry Birds, Limbo, Tiny Wings... (You will be amazed at how little effort went into the Angry Birds code after using Box2d).
I would start with tutorials on Libgdx from youtube, my favorite are by a guy named dermetfan (links at the bottom). He covers everything you will need to know to start making a game with Libgdx and Box2d. This will help get an idea of what it takes to implement various mechanics in your game.
The most common advice I have heard for people trying to start making games is: reduce your scope. "Take the really awesome idea that you have, cut it in half, now cut that in half again, now it might be possible for you to make that in less than a year." Your first game cannot be the idea that made you wanna start making games, or else you will get frustrated and abandon game dev all together. Never start with 3d or multiplayer. Baby steps. Create really simple things that just demonstrate certain mechanics. Or my favorite, clone other games. Make a clone of tetris, or Angry Birds
:) I usually pick old atari games. Here are some links you may find helpful. Since you are most interested in methodology watch the talks given by Jonathan Blow and Will Wright, they contain better advice than I could ever give.
These talks by Jonathan Blow are a must watch for anyone interested in making games. In here he talks about the methodology and general mind set you should have about making a game on your own. Key advice includes, 'your biggest enemy is early optimization', 'quickly implemented specific systems, are often better than general systems', 'as an independent developer dont try to make a AAA game, make an indie game'

Becoming God or the Buddha
Highly recommended to anyone interested in this general area...
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/...
It's a well made film with good writing about a robot who achieves enlightenment and how humans react (both positively and negatively) to the fact that a robot has done so.
If a robot can think sufficiently finely, it will be possible for it to think it has a soul and is saved or will be reincarnated or it meets the criteria for whatever other religions out there exist that do not explicitly prohibit members who do not meet certain historical standards.
I think that's at least a hundred years off.
Hopefully robots will not create or join a religion which has a failure of friendliness.

Re:Mc Donalds have beaten them
A movie was made about this. The BigMac and various other menu selections definitely do go bad just like any other kind of food. Except for the french fries. They seem to have unnerving regenerative superpowers.
As for the movie itself, I can't say I agree with the author's conclusions at the end, but on the whole it was interesting to watch.

Seamless CGI
I was astonished watching the making-of reel for The Avengers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnQLjZSX7xM. Almost all the city scenes were shot on green screen stages, with rendered city-scapes in the background. CGI is now so well done it's almost impossible to tell what's real and what's CG.
The reviews for Gravity http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/gravity_2013/ make it sound like a tour de force of technical achievement. I'm looking forward to seeing it, and the making-of should be well worth a look, too.

How short can you make my sheeple leash?
Geez, people!
Let's just increase taxes every month by 5% What
is your tipping point? When 95% of what you make
goes to government?
If you were to receive a pay increase that doubles
what you are making, who would you want to decide
how to spend or invest the extra money, you or
someone else? You are the best person to decide
how to make yourself happy.
The average person pays over half of their
productive efforts to the government. Also, the
externalities of higher taxes creates more entropy
rather than synergy.
Instead of arguing about this particular tax, we
should be fighting for cutting taxes by 90%.
Or, we can just keep going in this same direction

Also: Fighting Unpopular Opinions
This also works with unpopular opinions and content.
Case in point, Recently SomethingAwful's harassment of the TVTropes website reached a head when they started attacking TVTropes by complaining to Google about Trope pages that had odd content. The example was "Naughty Tentacles" which was the cliche of tentacles in anime tending towards being somewhat risque even in non-risque works. Google pulled all advertisements from their site until this page was removed and cut all their advertising money.
The catch being that Naughty Tentacles and other "Not Safe For Google" pages were not serving Google Ads, which means that Google is now claiming that if you have an Ad Sense ad on a SINGLE page then Google has editorial rights on ALL pages on your site.
That sick feeling in your stomach is normal, it merely means you are wise enough to realize what a huge disaster this could possibly be.
(Not to say that TVTropes handled it well themselves. The administrator had a very public nervous breakdown over the whole thing, began harassing anyone who posted Japanese media tropes, tried to argue that Romeo and Juliet was child pornography because R&J are both 14, etc etc... Many people, including myself, were publicly banned and our names dragged through the mud because we disagreed with his "great porno purge" on what was supposedly a collaborative website.)
Another recent example of something similar was when the concern troll at L7World began harassing websites that hosted "Kodmo No Jikan", a very risque Japanese manga involving a precocious child abuse victim and the male teacher who is the subject of her torment (and who is attempting to save her from her abusive stepfather). While the content is... as close to pornographic as possible without actually reaching that point, the fact of the matter is the L7World troll used as many "fainting couch" attacks he could, including photoshopping things out of context and directly attacking the Advertisers that went through Google, to harass every manga hosting website he could. (He then later admitted he likes KnJ, reads it, and was just fucking with as many people as he could because he could get away with it.)
Several months later, a similar attack was done by someone claiming that all Manga hosting websites had to remove not only any works with underage characters -- but also any manga works that had Gay or Lesbian themed content, because the "web is a product of the United States, a Christian Nation, and thus they had a duty to uphold Christian morals". When this troll was ignored and banned for these frothy rants, suddenly Google was getting all kinds of complaints out of the blue about these sites and pulled their advertisement money.
This attack destroyed OneManga, severely hurt every other manga site, et cetera. Even sites that do not host manga, and are simply series database sites, such as BakaUpdates, were affected. So don't think that you're only in danger if you host Troll-Unapproved content, if you talk about things that trolls don't like, they can go through Google to attack your site now.
And before anyone takes umbrage with the "underage characters" part, I would point out that the most popular children's comic in the world, Doraemon, as well as The SImpsons technically fall under the same overreaching umbrella of what this troll was complaining about, and are not pornographic by any sense of the word.
tl;dr: In short, I find it very unsettling that Google is openly bragging about the possibility that legal trolls such as the MPAA could now use attacks that Religious fundamentalist trolls (and, in the case of SA, just plain normal trolls) have used to silence websites that they do not agree with.

Machete needs a fan edit
Someone needs to edit down Robert Rodriguez's movie, Machete. The original concept was great. When he unnecessarily extended the story to fit all the Hollywood celebrities on screen, the movie goes downhill. Booth was a terrific character. When he dies, the movie should end. Fin.
Oh, but keep that scene in there where Danny Trejo is in the swimming pool with the topless women.

Re:"Pink Floyd engineer"?
My first university roommate played APP endlessly. Could have been worse (future roommate liked to drop the Minnelli New York, New York bombshell at 7 a.m.). This was before the Wakeman turned into a Walkman. I was already overclocking. We were not a good match.
I'm sure I have known every so often of AP's involvement with Dark Side, but I couldn't have brought it to mind unprompted.
Fleeing from my own roommate, I used to hang out with a dormmate down the hall of Germanic heritage who played Dark Side (rather softly) on speakers that stood nearly up to my armpits, while we sipped Rusty Nails with Teutonic civility. I regard this as one of my first cultural experiences. When I hung out at the student pub it never surprised me that the tables were sticky. Molson/Labatts macrobrew was better off poured just about anywhere else than across your tongue.
APP featured prominently in my crash course in Le Gout Des Autres as one of the high notes.

Re:EventuallyMalthusian catastrophe is:
Hong Kong residents living in cages
China's One Child policy, and millions waiting for days in swamped transportation arteries for a shot at seeing their families once per year.
The downfall of multiple governments triggered by rising food prices
The German quest for lebensraum from 1939-1945.
Now, you could argue those are all matters of resource allocation, rather than shortages per se. But what I see in the world is that as resources become scarce, they are distributed less equitably, not more.

You can sit down now.
"It's a Wonderful Life" is a horrible movie.
The only reason it's remembered is because it fell into the public domain. It is a James Capra film starring Jimmy Stewart, Lionel Barrymore and a young Donna Reed. The release of so sentimental a fantasy in the immeadiate postwar years may have doomed to it to failure at the box office.
But you could say with just as much truth that 1939 was not the right year for "The Wizard of Oz," which found its television audience in the mid-fifties.
Despite the lapsed copyright, television stations that aired it still were required to pay royalties. Although the film's images had entered the public domain, the film's story was still protected by virtue of it being a derivative work of the published story "The Greatest Gift", whose copyright was properly renewed by Philip Van Doren Stern in 1971. The film became a perennial holiday favorite in the 1980s, possibly due to its repeated showings each holiday season on hundreds of local television stations.

Re:Which movie?
Chances are it's yet another example of Aussies downloading content not yet available in this market because Hollywood still thinks it's a good idea to do regional staggered releases in these days of digital 'prints'.
How about films that don't even get shown like Submarine. Now here's a film that came out more than a year ago at the film festivals around the world, and generally was released in March and June in the UK / US respectively. It showed in Australia last month
... in New South Wales. We did a lot of digging and found one independent cinema in my state was showing this film which we've heard rave reviews about. It was showing the film on weekdays at 2pm.I would have happily paid to see the film. I would have happily paid a premium to see the film at an independent cinema in the city. But I was simply not given that option.

Fuck Space Invaders. Someone Do Joust Please
Personally, I think as far as classic video games go, Joust has much more story and plot potential than Space Invaders.
Though John Newcomer and Williams didn't give any deep details about the world the game takes place in, it at least has the makings of just a good sword and sorcery fantasy flick, featuring bird mounted knights fighting other mounted knights throughout the course of whatever quest and adventure they are on in thrilling bird on bird action.
Sadly though, it appears that Joust is already on the road to being fucked as far as movie possibilities go:

Re:Possible ghost?
The few times I've tried to watch any of those ghost hunter shows it always seems like it's dramatized, or a bunch of people sitting around convinced that everything around them is proof of a ghost. "Zomg, the floor creaked".
I have the same problem with religious people.
Hard to say if it's a hoax, or people looking too hard for something, and interpreting everything they see as 'proof'. It's hard not to cynically think that someone off camera who is part of it is scuffing their feet or something.
Reminds me of Randy Travis in "Touched by an Angel's" A Christmas Miracle episode. After being a conman his character takes care of his mentally retarded brother and has trouble believing in angels, god, or miracles.
I don't believe myself, I am "a", without and "gnosys", knowledge, eg agnostic but that show helped me after my accident leaving me with a disability.

The U.S. government is EXTREMELY corrupt.
Your comment about "this period of history" draws attention away from the fact that the U.S. government is EXTREMELY corrupt. Few in government are on the side of the people. Most of the really powerful in the U.S. government are helping the corrupters.
For example, see the Rolling Stone article about Goldman Sachs, The Great American Bubble Machine
The documentary movie Inside Job was nominated for an Oscar. It's an excellent movie about the extreme corruption. NOTHING has been done.

Re:I KNOW! Ebert's point! It is bulshit.
It's how Frodo was made to look so small compared to Gandalf, for example. Frodo was further from the camera and thus appeared smaller than he would have standing next to Gandalf. The lack of 3D convergence made it appear that both actors were standing next to each other, and our brains told us that Frodo must be smaller.
Actually, that was done with computers whenever they were supposed to be together in the same shot.
Cause you can't really keep the Hobbits in the background ALL of the time.
Or they simply had actors who played Hobbits and Dwarfs kneel during the shot.
That is why here Frodo's head appears HUGE next to Galadriel's - when a Hobbit is supposed to be child-sized next to an Elf. -

I was thinking the same thing, but considering the high praise it's receiving from movie critics, there is apparently good reason to see this movie.

I'm guessing that maybe many others (like myself) were well past starting to get sick of war in general and the war in iraq in particular. Re:Doubt it will ever get made
You don't seem to be aware that Downey's contract already requires him to be in the Avengers.
That still doesn't make me optimistic about this movie getting made by him. Your comments about Whedon getting played by the movie executives seem quite familiar, given how he was assigned to Wonder Woman, got all worked up over it, and here we are five years later with no sign of a movie.

Re:Not mutually exclusive
You'll have so much energy bursting out of every muscle after 2 days off you truly will think you are superman. Incredible feeling.
Shoot, I feel that way *after* I exercise, hence part of the reason I try to get the exercise in early in the morning before work. I used to have problems staying awake at work; can't say I'm *always* perfectly alert now, but I notice a difference when I get my daily exercise, and even after a long day, I still come home energized.
So get out there and do something - you don't have to be coordinated, or good at it. Especially running - just do it. Karate takes a little more, but you can suck at it at first. At least it isn't acrobatic like Judo or Jujitsu - you keep your feet on the ground (almost always). Keep with it and you'd be amazed.
I personally got sick of Karate - I'd much prefer to continue with Taijutsu or pick up Aikido. But even if they were offered where I live, I don't think I'd have the time between training for mountain rescue. Hiking and climbing keep me and my metabolism amped way up. Point is, though, whatever your taste, you can find some athletic activity to keep you happy and healthy.
PS - I found something interesting while checking out Rotten Tomatoes' journey through SciFi. I'd be interested in trying "Parkour" out, but again, what do I give up? So many things to do, so little time . . .
