National Parks of USA and Canada
I suggest visiting some of the national parks in North America. The four listed below have made the biggest impact on me. All of these have great backpacking trails and areas once you get there.
- Yellowstone National Park geothermal power and beauty
- Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks See the largest and oldest living thing on the planet
- Yosemite National Park My photos
- Banff and Lake Louise
These are not what I would call "geeky" but in all honesty, most of the geek destinations have been a let down. I usually get more enjoyment out of books and articles than visiting a place. (Unless you absolutely need to make a stop by micro$oft headquarters)
If you make it to Washington DC, make sure to stop at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, if you are into that sort of thing.

Re:Next from Apple...
Chill out, rabid fanboy!
I was not slamming/mocking Apple for only shipping a single-button mouse. I'm typing this post on my G4. All I was saying is, based on their nomenclature changes they might be about to ship one with their new towers.

Re:bang for the buck
A tablet PC, especially the kind that can unfold to into a laptop, is what I've been wanting for a very long time.
I know exactly what you mean.
Concept drawing by one of the SpyMac users, but it's definately something I'd pay for. -
How about Apple's new 4 inch iBook
Speaking of the gameboy advance SP, can you imagine an iBook like this thing running linux?

The original DOOM, for another...
Not long after the DOOM phenomenon began, I had to sleep in my basement during the period after I gutted my bedroom and before my new furniture for it arrived. The basement has wood-paneled walls, and a lot of stuff hanging on them. One night as I was sleeping down there, one corner of a "frameless" picture frame decided to let go of the nail upon which it was hanging at about 3am one morning. It began swinging back and forth on the remaining nail, scraping against the paneling. It made a noise that was practically indistinguishable from the tearing noise you heard when one of the baddies in DOOM (the guy on the right side in this screenshot) got too close to you and started inflicting damage by clawing at you.
That noise immediately triggered said DOOM character's appearance in a dream, and about 10 seconds later I bolted upright, wide awake and feeling around for my gun, any gun-- what woke me up was the feeling panic that I was taking damage from that guy, and I couldn't see where he was to shoot him. Then I realized it was a dream. THEN I realized I still heard the sound, even though I was awake. Finally, I noticed the swinging picture frame, laughed sheepishly and pulled it off the wall before going back to sleep. -

Re:Great.just run to a store and grab one
Sorry can't do that. The 17" Powerbook will not be available until late March. or early April according to this site. This of course does not spell the doom of Apple.

Extra character not seen in the original
There's an extra character who was never seen in the original matrix. Instead of taking just one pill, she took the red pill, the blue pill, and had morpheus cook up a dozen other types.

My Sig...Apple is like a strange drug that you just can't quite get enough of,
They shouldn't call it Mac. They should call it crack! -- musician Barry Adamson told the Guardian newspaper. -
Re:WowBTW, since Bill Gates does give so much of his (personal) money to education and third world countries, maybe we should respect him a little more by *not* playing this game.
Maybe if Bill Gates didn't have a monopoly over the OS market Apple would have more money to give to third world countries. Plus they could afford to give everyone a raise.

Actual Researched Percentages without Company FUD
If you want more accurate numbers of who has what percentage of the market, then you should check out this article. Jack Campbell spent about 30 hours and about a week's worth of research to gather his numbers. Definitely worth a look. Even includes Linux, AS400, and mainframe OS and application numbers. At the end of the article he also includes the hardware numbers per manufacturer over the last 20 years for those people wanting to know those numbers. I will not tell you the results, you should read the article for yourself.

Re:Readme for 10.2.1 Update
I saw that under 10.2. Happened when I switched my Belkin SOHO Series USB KVMA switch back to my Blue G3 (upgraded to 550 MHz G4).
But that's not the same as the kernel panic I encountered once. Suddenly, plain white-on-black text in the upper left corner of the screen telling me to restart. More what you'd expect from a BSD kernel panic, instead of a multi-lingual window.
Hopefully 10.2.1 will get rid of the indefinite waits with the lollypop pinwheel beachball and having to force quit applications like DragThing and Photoshop 7, sometimes taking two or three attempts to do so. And the sudden system lockups with Photoshop.
At least FCP3.0 isn't overwriting the partition maps and root directories of my Firewire drives anymore with 10.2 like it would under 10.1. -
Finally! A picture of the iphone!
Here it is. I guess it was 'borrowed' from Steve Jobs while he was testing it.

Re:Well, duh...But we'll forgive him for this lie, just like we forgave him for screwing us with
.Mac yesterday, and just like we'll forgive him for putting backdoors in Aqua tomorrow.Actually, they screwed us with
.mac yesterday, and today, he's back to censoring user comments:
Apple deleting posts critical of .mac But you were close. At this rate, the backdoors ARE tomorrow.
I have a new slogan: "A letter to Apple a day keeps corruption at bay."
Scary you were so dead on, though. Is Apple just Microsoft with a nicer veneer and better ads?

Tell that to this guy who made an XP skin for OS X.

RumorTracker
If you have a rumor fix, the site RumorTracker acts as a sort of rumor portal including rumors from seven different sites including MacOSRumors, ThinkSecret and SpyMac.

Good coverage at Spymac
For good minute-by-minute coverage of the keynote, commit HTTP to Apple Confidential. The latest news (as I post this) is iChat a new Apple IM client built into the 10.2 release of Mac OS X. I know the lead engineer on that project and I expect it will be pretty sweet.

Jaguar Upgrades
According to various rumour sites, there will also be:
1) Drastically increased finder speeds
2) Spring-loaded folders
3) Accompanying Java 1.4 dev kit release -
Sony to loose the crown?Looks like Sony will continue to hold the coolest Palm clone crown
Though I wish the "iWalk" wasn't a fake, I got a note in my e-mail from Palm that they are releasing some whiz bang, got to buy it, new Palm Pilot (oops cant call it that anymore). But, of course, they won't tell me what it is and I haven't found a Palm rumor site like the Mac guys have. Given that most of the Palms released after the Palm III sucked, I am really hoping Palm does something cool. I haven't bought a new PDA since 1999. There has been nothing on the market to excite me since.
Note to Apple: BRING BACK THE NEWTON!!!

hehe.. busted!!
look at this picture the screen image is tilted. perhaps more importantly, that poorly superimposed reflection is not mirroring the hand hovering above the screen.

One more thing - found original SpyMac photo
here is the original SpyMac article from october where they claimed to have pictures of the iWalk (a blow up of the original picture is here - as you can see the picture there is _completely_ different then the ones they are showing today. This and the fact that they are harvesting e-mail addresses to get people look at the pictures makes SpyMac look like a hoax to me.

Fool you once... shame on you!
This is the same site that was predicting the "iWalk" before the "iPod" was released.
Note the date (10-23-2001) on the above URL.
Never believe the Mac 'rumour sites' they rarely get it right. Except for the 'night before the keynote' in the past when leaks showed up from the show-floor setup folks. Perhaps this is why the keynote was moved up a day. I have heard show floor setup security will be very tight. No vendor is allowed on the floor to setup until after the keynote starts, except Apple of course.

* Picture of it *
A few days ago I came across this picture that was found on a Hotline server. Evidently it was to only be a mock up that was previously on other sites. But could this actually be true? Seems ironic that this picture would pop up short before (or during) these recent parts purchases by Apple.

Re:Like these rumored looks?
http://www.spymac.com/imacpredictions01.html
Has another mockup in their user section, this is the site that had that horribly fake iWalk device featured right before iPod was announced.
It's not quite as sexy as the acorncreative mockups, and apparently a CD/DVD would 'poop' out the back.. but maybe they're just breaking a computer down into basic bodily functions for the iMac crowd to understand easier.

iWalk v. iPod
Exibit 1: iWalk
Exibit 2: iPod
These two products look nothing alike, exept for their rectangular shape. Perhaps the iWalk is fictional, but it is not related to the iPod in any way.
(It is my understanding that your post is implying that someone took the iPod, and "photoshopped" a new name on it. If that is not what you intended to imply, perhaps you should expound on your points a bit more...) -
SpyMac/iWalk
Check out this link: SpyMac. It's a preview of Apple's upcoming PDA, the iWalk, featuring "a scaled down version of Mac OS X". The picture is supposed to be real, but personally I think it looks more like a LightWave rendering or something... Judge for yourself!
