Nice ... no linkable article!
At least there's nothing to feel the brundt of the slashdot effect.
Here's an interview with Mr. Manferdelli before he took his current position. I find what he was doing with web tracking to be very ... um, interesting.
What's next? A slashdot story that doesn't even link back it itself? ugh.

Re:Sue the software companies
OH Puh-leeze!
The Tech TV definition of flamebait. I find this much more accurate. Your def is much too ... "old" internet. Pre-commerical DNS and AOL days.

Re:Sue the software companies
Cripes, don't be so lazy. It took me three seconds to find this guy shouting off his bullshit on forums other than slashdot with a google search. He states the same thing over and over outside this little corner of the 'net, apparently.
Here's a hint, grub. If you're going to push an agenda, change your nick everynow and then.

What happened to the /. Spam in a can icon?
I just noticed that slashdot has replaced the little Spam Can icon with ... a pig?? Remember when slashdot had a little blue can of Spam that they used for this article set? What, some sort of copyright problem?

Re:A new low
Spammers have been taken to court over this here in Ohio. Unfortunately is amounted to little more than a slap on the wrist. This should have been a ground-breaking case, but sadly just an example of how the justice system doesn't always work.

Linux + Apache is vulnerable
Don't go screaming that "See! IIS sucks! just yet." This is a documented a subsequently ignored problem with Apache. I like the concept of open source as much as anybdoy around here, but this is one regrettable case where we dropped the ball. We should have patched this the day it was released. Still, we have substantiall less black eyes than Microsoft, but a black eye nontheless.

Re:Lest we forget
Richard Feynman talked about nanotechnology way back in 1959
**bzzztt!* Wrong. Feynman was actually talking about nanobiology - the differences between the two are subtle, but distinct Yes, he did propose the possible usage of organic materical as "a relay for information" but that is where the similaties end. I can understand how they appear the same on a surface level, but please get your facts straight before spouting.

Re:Raises interesting questions
If, in the future, copying physical objects is nearly as easy as copying information on a computer ...
This is actually the subject of a Phillip K. Dick novel. With the current trend of making his stories into films I suspect this one will be next.

Re:Maybe...Which he did, in essence, on the Tonight Show when he busted Peter Popoff.
Here's one link that's pretty good.
Here's a Google search for your convenience.
As for Randi's attitude, more power to him! There are too many frauds out there, from Uri Geller to John Edwards, "The Biggest Douche In The Universe!" and they ALL need to be shown up and humiliated in public.
And given all the lies and deception Randi has seen over the years by dishonest fuckers like Geller and Edwards, his abrasive attitude is understandable.

Strange stuff around Rekall...
I wonder how this relates to this thread (which actually starts here), which were posted to comp.lang.python [tinyurl links point to long google groups URLs]. Seemed like there was some sort of disagreement between theKompany and the main developer. His site is totalrekall.co.uk. A bit of a soap opera, but at least both sides are moving in the same direction (GPL) -- maybe it doesn't really matter who owns the code if they both release it under the same license.

Ugh... Troll Bot?
I hate the troll price bots. The price is actually 14.95 at Amazon. This means you need to spend 10.05 to qualify for free shipping. If you want to take a peek click here to buy it. I don't know when Amazon's free holiday shipping for all orders will kick in. They might keep it at a $25 minimum all quarter.

Re:In other News...
Just by listening to the previews of songs that I've purchased I can say that the purchased tracks sound WAY better than the previews. I don't know where the difference lies but the previews are definitely lower quality than the purchased tracks.
That makes no sense though:
In his introduction speech, Steve Jobs explicitly said that the previews were full quality.
Network monitoring tools show that a 30 second preview downloads about 700kB, which agrees with a 128kbps data rate plus overhead, the same rate as the purchased files.
I even used Audio Hijack to record the preview and the same 30 seconds from the purchased track so I could play them back and forth. Even with headphones, I could not discern a difference.
I'm curious what's causing you to be getting substandard previews. Are you using Mac OS or Windows? Have you tried checking the "load complete preview before playing" box in iTunes preferences?

Next on CNN...
CNN is reporting that the 218 Slashdot readers simultaneously yelled 'BULLSHIT' upon reading that millions of users allegedly deleted all the music files from their computers in a story posted here. The force of the simultaneous blast woke up Daryl McDumbass, CEO of SCO, whereupon he finally confessed to being the model for a picture posted here, confesseed his undying love for IBM's Lou Gerstner, and his secret desire to take Jar Jar Binks inside himself while George Lucas masturbated with a Yoda doll.

Re:Bizarre!
No need to have 5 different paritions, even back in '99. You can do a parallel install of BSD and Linux on the same parition, quite easily in face. This student does it completely will freeware utilities. A quick google search prouduces many more.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think the management of multiple partitions is what scares many people way from alternate OSes. They're afraid of damaging their Windows install, or not technically understanding enough, or simply are afraid of it.
