Re:Maybe it's just me...
Try whitehouse.com. Not much going on there these days either.
-
Re:Strangely okay with this...
http://www.whitehouse.com/ used to.
-
Re:Oh wow.
http://www.xboc.com/ (I know but to save against the stupid: NOT SAVE FOR WORK!)
http://www.whitehouse.com/ was porn ( http://news.cnet.com/2100-1023-202985.html ) -
Re:Domain name not important?
Using google prevents mistakes, such as the typo http://www.bankofamerica.cm/ for Bank of America instead of http://www.bankofamerica.com/ or the wrong tld http://www.whitehouse.com/ (NSFW) for the White House instead of http://www.whitehouse.gov/. I have made both type of mistakes before, and Google prevents them.

Re:Homework - The 3 stages to get an idle treat!!
I want an idle treat.
Easy when you are idle and have nothing better to do:
1) Remove your trousers/pants/under-pants/panties/skirt?
2) Visit whitehouse.com (or .gov if you prefer!)
3) Give yourself an idle "treat".
4) Profit?!? (well maybe if you film and charge access.... ... mind you for most people on here they'd probably be in debt - when no-one sees/cares what they are doing in mums basement and/or online either!! Pretty much like most of our sad lifes, eh?! :) -
Same Name/Different domain suffixes too?
For example; notice the subtle content differences between:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/ and this
http://www.whitehouse.com/ ...and this
http://www.whitehouse.net/
http://www.whitehouse.pl/ ...and so on...
(You can do the same thing with: http://www.dell.com/ http://www.dell.net/ etc...) -
I don't know what it was....
Blocked Site Error.
http://www.whitehouse.com/ is not available in the Wayback Machine. -
Re:Sensationalist FUD
He's far more likely to to be familiar with this site.
It is Slashdot afterall.

Re:Encryption Alert: +1, PatRIOTic
Encrypt all communications because http://www.whitehouse.org/Mr. Evil is http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Countdown_Telcom_whistleblower_describes_secret_room_1107.htmllistening.
Even worse, just don't go to http://www.whitehouse.com/ and you will be seeing unexpected results !!
On a side note, I read the article at first asThe British Pornographic Institute (the UK's RIAA)
instead ofThe British Phonographic Institute (the UK's RIAA)
.
I have a dirty dirty mind.....if you read it the same way I did, you DO also have a dirty mind. Pervs! :-P -
Re:ridiculous.
Have you been out to www.whitehouse.com lately? They've turned into a clearinghouse for the '08 candidates, both Rep & Dem.
No, really, they have.
They're even running political polls. Granted the last one, from the 8th of October, was "Should George W. Bush be impeached?" and the current one is "Does The Media Favor One Party Over Another In It's Reporting?", but the days of being NSFW seem to be over.
At least until cadidates have been picked. : ) -
Re:CCP?
Yeah, let them know at http://www.whitehouse.com/ .
-
Right there in black and white
"Techno" idiots? If someone thinks whitehouse.com is the official White House website, he or she is probably not so great at evaluating printed text either.
-
Re:Reputations are forever...
youthful indescretion becomes a permanent and inescapable brand.
Yeah, look at how it held GW Bush back. The guy should be living life to the fullest, making his mark on the world. But thanks to the indiscretions of his youth, he can only get a job at some porn site. -
Re:WOw that's confusing
I think the funniest example of this is the whitehouse.com website.
You send some friend (at work, if you want to be a jerk) an email that says
Did you hear ? The President just announced that we are pulling out of Iraq!! See the announcement.
Actually, it's not a bad porn site. -
US Government response.
I wonder what the current US administration has to say on this subject. Let's see:
Browse to http://www.whitehouse.com/ ...
Oh dear. -
Newsflash - The Whitehouse cancels Mars mission!
See the official press release here .

Re:What actually happened (Bush means no pussy)
The purpose of
.xxx is a porn sink. Over time, porn sites will gravitate to .xxx voluntarily. Who wants to be name.com when they could be bettername.xxx.You'd still wind up dealing with typo squatters like this guy. The Usenet example is a good point though and I tip my hat to you on that one.
In any case, I wish people would wait and see what happens rather then using it as an issue to further divide the World over. If DoC or the US Government actually blocks it then you'll have a point. Right now it looks like are they doing is slowing it down to allow more time for comment.

Re:.us domain?
I tried http://www.whitehouse.com/ but that seemed to be something WAY different than what you're talking about...
-
red-light district?
"The Bush administration is objecting to the creation of a
.xxx domain, saying it has concerns about a virtual red-light district reserved exclusively for Internet pornography." Maybe they prefer the nearness of http://whitehouse.com/? -
Are you telling me that...
-
what about
http://www.whitehouse.com/ former porn site
and
http://www.cnet.com/ -
Rove resigns

Re:I'm mixfused
The The Whitehouse has an interesting comment on this.
-
Re:Well....
Actually the Whitehouse has an official statement about this.

Re:any ideas why this on the Latvian army site?
Why iss this photo up on the Latvian army's website? anybody find any other goodies there?
Why iss this pr0n up on the official web site for the White House and President? anybody find any other goodies there?
*.gov = *.gov.lv, *.mil = *.mil.lv. Got that? -
What next, "whitehouse.com"?I can see pressure to apply this to whitehouse.com, which is a porno site.
Then there will be pressure to apply it to whitehouse.org, which is an anti-Bush satire site.
Then redirecting al-Jazeera to Fox News...
-
Was that Whitehouse.Com or Whitehouse.Gov???
Does this mean that http://www.whitehouse.com/ traffic will be directed to http://www.whitehouse.gov/?
-
sort of offtopic, but funny
My girlfriends name is heather boyle and told me to google her when we met, so I did- here's the first link- NSFW
I'm not really sure what my point was, but I thought this was somewhat related.
people make mistakes with url's all the time- hell, Cheney even did it during the debate with factcheck.org
and then there's always the whitehouse site that's been screwing up kids, parents and teachers for 7 years
of course none of this changes the fact that the isp should keep their fucking hands out of what their client host as long as it's not spam or child porn. -
Re:Stupid stupid stupid.
-
SadYou would think that all political domain names would be held to the same high standards as georgewbush.org, whitehouse.org and whitehouse.com.
There ought to be a law. Won't somebody please think about thinking about the children?

Re:A good ruling
If Fallwell.com was merely an attempt to capitalize on spelling errors, then this is not different than for me to register Mircosoft as a platform for me to promote non-Microsoft software.
So if I have a business at 12100 Main St. and have been in business for years so that people know the place very well, then does that give me the right to evict businesses from 12110 Main St. because they criticize my business? The web address is just that. Fallwell.com is next door to Falwell.com but that doesn't give some judge the right to assume that everyone typing Fallwell.com into their browser actually meant to type Falwell.com.The deciding factor in this case was that the Fallwell.com website clearly identified that they had nothing to do with Falwell ministries. Even google's summary stated this and the disclaimer leads to Falwell.com in case you actually got lost and were searching around for your Reagan Tribute video. That's more than can be said for lazermonks which blatantly mooches business from the actual lasermonks
I thought people learned this lesson years ago with whitehouse.com, whitehouse.org, and whitehouse.gov.

Similar domain name cases
Someone has already mentioned the "katie.com" case, and there have been "slashdo" jokes.
But how about (nsfw) http://www.whitehouse.com/? Is this the precedent that makes it easier to take them down without looking like Big Brother?
-
Re:/. effect can make people back down on BS claim
... and, if we get bored ... http://whitehouse.com/ -
Re:Suggested domains
Better than whitehouse.com.
-
Re:Old news.
And for extra fun, have a look at Whitehouse.com
-
Re:There are only a few that matter
Don't forget
.gov. People who mix up whitehouse.gov with whitehouse.com are in for quite a surprise. -
Re:I'm sorry...
Whitehouse.com, whitehouse.net, and whitehouse.org say otherwise.
-
Bush/Ashcroft are keeping the porn for themselves!
After reading the article, I decided to send Bush and Ashcroft an email to let them know how I feel. And then it became completely clear to me why they're doing this. They want to keep all of the porn for themselves!
-
Uh oh.
Now watch them go after Whitehouse.com, which is a porno site.
Or Whitehouse.net, which is an anti-government site.
Or Whitehouse.org, the satire site run by Landover Baptist Church ("Unsaved Unwelcome, as Jesus Commanded"). -
whitehouse.com
so how long until whitehouse.com goes away...
-
Re:Hostile takeover? This is just a business tactic to try and sway the devil that is Eisner..
Sway him to Comcast or sway him to get the hell out of the company and go fsck up some other company?
A property up for sale which may interest Mr. Eisner (the owner swears he is a changed (family) man and doesn't want it to go to another porn site, so maybe Michael could do something with it.
-
Re:Alternative root servers
Okay, TLDs are gone. Who gets "whitehouse" -- whitehouse.gov or whitehouse.com? Yeah, any reasonable person would say "that's an easy one" (answer is left as an exercise for the reader, but how about tldp? The Linux Documentation Project or Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients?
-
Re:Yet we all ignore whitehouse.com...
http://www.whitehouse.com/ Is no longer a porn site ?
-
Re:Hold on a tic...
You mean like whitehouse.com? I pop jokes about that site every once in a while and get blank stares... I wonder how many people have visited it later to find out why I was laughing about this "government" web site.
Really, any web site that has significantly different content than you would expect from the name is lame - so I don't shed any tears for cybersquatters who loose their domains. -
It's legalJust look at WARNING PORNO SITE http://www.whitehouse.com vs WARNING US GOVT SITE http://www.whitehouse.gov
If Billy and Dubya couldn't get this changed, UbiSoft shouldn't be able to either.
-
Re:While
Exactly, I dont mind satire, but thats pretty close to being the same url.
Of course, us yanks have whitehouse.com, so we are use to it. ;) -
Re:upside
Yeah but as always porn was there first...
