hackable cams already available
My PowerShot S3-IS is scriptable. (example) And it's not even a cutting edge camera. Lots of cams support scripting.

Really, the gamers want this? What about moderation on such site and deleting content that the company doesn't want others to see? It has happened before.
The community is mature enough to create their own sites, and these sites are usually much better and useful then the sites provided by the companies creating and publishing games. Just look at Wikia gaming, Strategywiki, and so on.

Re:Oscar (cat)
I didn't know we are allowed to quote House episodes as scientific fact nowadays.
No, that's not very reliable. If you want a dependable source of science you cite the House Wiki or Scott's blog.
Oh, and Scott? He's just some Doctor Who happens to love House.

Oh noes I got banned from the Internet!
Banned from the Internet is easy to do. Come on let's do it. All of the cool kids are getting banned from the Internet.
I refused to forward a chain email letter so they banned me.

Re:more drunkeness, more assholes
The rate of alcohol consumption per capita in the UK is double that of the 50s.
Oh FFS !
Not that old chestnut....
People _never_ got drunk in the past. Oh no, never.
They would never take addictive drugs to the ruin of families.Oh no, never.

Neural Nanionics
The future of cellphones is pretty much neural nanionics from Peter F Hamilton's 'Nights Dawn' trilogy.

Re:Death Star
The Death Star was the embodiment of Tarkin's Tarkin Doctrine; of course Vader would let Tarkin use it as he saw fit. But nevertheless, the buck stopped at Vader's door. The 'supreme' adjective in his title ain't there for pretty; nor was he Palpatine's right-hand man for nothing. As for the choking thing, that might just be Vader realizing he was acting childishly.
Now, as for construction crew; while you may be channeling _Clerks_ there, we don't see any non-military personnel on the Death Star I, nor is it ever described or appear uncompleted. Whatever was left to do was no doubt being taken care of by the select picked crew of the Death Star I. The original construction was done by Wookiee slaves and Desapyre prisoners - all dead or gone by Yavin.

Wings in space
My grandfather commented on the "wings" of ships that seemed to spend all their time in space.
I think by "wings" you mean "s-foils" (they were called the latter in the films). It's pretty clear that the purpose of these were as weapon platforms (would you want some high-energy plasma mounted right beside the cockpit?).

Wait until the remake of Star Wars in 2010
Here is a sneak peek if Star Trek can get a reboot/rewrite so can Star Wars.
Star Wars is a 2010 remake of the classic 1977 science fiction film, Star Wars. The movie features the main characters of the original; however they are portrayed by a new cast in a revamped plot, featuring pioneering, overused special effects. The narrative follows Luke Skywalker (Zac Efron) as he escapes his homeworld of Tatooine and joins Obi-Wan Kenobi (Sean Connery), Han Solo (Dennis Quaid) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) to rescue Princess Leia Organa (Julia Roberts) and her hair (portrayed by two Cinnabons) and save the Rebel Alliance from the evil Darth Vader (Jeremy Irons) and Emperor Palpatine (Ralph Fiennes).
The remake was made when George Lucas felt a need to revive the Star Wars franchise in a way more graceful than Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Lucas also noticed the recent revival of other old science fiction franchises, such as Star Trek. He felt that a remake of the original Star Wars would be a win-win: he would not have to invent new ideas, but the audience would be treated to a new, revamped, overhyped version of the movie in return for some additional profit for Lucas himself. The remake, unfortunately, fared even worse than The Clone Wars, despite its conspicuous lack of Jar Jar Binks.

Re:Guide to the most epic FAILs in this article
Ah, but "point five past light speed" is never explicitly explained, so counting it as 150% of lightspeed is just an assumption. For all we know they use a different scale to measure things past light speed, and "point five" could be the equivalent of "Warp factor 5" or some such.
And if you want the Expanded Universe retconned answer, read this: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hyperdrive#Classes. (0.5 is the Falcon's "hyperdrive class", which acts as a multiplier on the travel time. Class 0.0 would be infinite speed, like Warp 10)

Re:Publicity stunt
I was wondering about this myself. By bringing attention to this random blog apparently nobody reads, this model I've never heard of will now be the laughingstock of the internet for a few weeks. I saw this on the morning news on my way out the door, and I'm just amazed people still don't really understand how the internet actually works.
They kept talking about how they're trying to set the precedent that anonymity is not a shield against libel, as if this trial would magically end all anonymity on the entire internet, but that's not even what this is about. This is about someone who I've previously never heard of, who is suing somebody because she has a thin skin, and doesn't realize that doing so will draw even more attention to the very thing she's trying to suppress.
Now we get to look forward to the next few weeks as people express their first amendment rights by going even further than the original statements, on far more readable forums such as this one. I mean... look at this image. It's been all over the internet for years, and arguably damages this young woman's reputation worse than whatever this model is whining about, but look just how pervasive it is anyway. I can only imagine what kind of photoshopping an attempt to sue the intarwebs will inspire.
This really is just exacerbating the situation, and it's a shame nobody warned her or her lawyers before they made it a media spectacle. Now she's totally and irreversibly screwed, and doesn't even know it.

Re:Eh...
i use mpd, which requires me to modprobe snd-pcm-oss for it to output sound. annoying and easy to fix, but it tells me much about how this would affect somebody who needs to make a living in the audio field.
That shouldn't really tell you anything. What it tells me is that Fedora is either hopelessly outdated (I doubt that) or you didn't read the mpd documentation (which would be a good idea, seeing how mpd is the one audio player on linux that is still rolling "oldschool" and actually requires configuring it by changing config files by hand).
mpd can use alsa, pulseaudio, jack, (...) just fine - if you TELL it to, that is: http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Configuration#Audio_Outputs

Re:Soft drink analogy
So saying that one can't boycott Nintendo 'cause there's no equivalent alternatives to Smash Bros. or Mario Party isn't quite true.
I wasn't saying it was true. I was asking other Slashdot readers whether one existed. The kind of answer I was looking for is "They exist, and they're called A, B, and C" or "They don exits, and here's why publishers don't deem it worthwhile to make one".
You were suggesting that the answer to that question had some bearing on whether it was possible to boycott Nintendo...
My point is simply that if that is the case, then Nintendo basically already owns your ass.

ST:TNG writers did think of it

Broken Torgo Routine
Well apparently after infecting over five million IP addresses, it's now an autonomous botnet working on its own without any master

Pilot / Space Jockey
I sure hope they throw a bit at the Pilot/Space Jockey subplot.

Re:Zelda has no definitive timeline
And yet the timeline given by Mr. Miyamoto is... unlikely, given events in the games.
I'm fairly sure that Nintendo never gave it any real thought. And when Miyamoto was asked about it in an interview, he felt put on the spot and basically winged it. "Sure there's a timeline! It's up... uh... well..."
This page lists some of the problems with Miyamoto's order.

Re:Tron 2.0 Videogame - No Longer Cannon? No, it's not canon. According to the Tron wiki,
According to DaveTRON (a friend of Steven Lisberger, the creator and director of Tron), Tron is the only story that is truly canon. Tron 2.0's storylines differ from Lisberger's original intentions of the characters and the story, therefore, Tron 2.0 should be considered as its own canon. It's likely that TR2N will retcon most of the material shown in Tron 2.0, however it's possible that some parts from Tron 2.0 will be borrowed for TR2N.
Where "TR2N" is "Tron Legacy".

Re:Screw the ethical concerns
Well, the problem with the Jessica Alba clone is that you'd end up getting your ass kicked by the vengeful clone of Bruce Willis
Maybe better to take Lucy Liu to the next level head in jar >> robot >> clone
There's some funny for whomever mistakenly modded my other post "funny" when it was deadly serious.
I dunno how old you are... but I think you'll find your body starts to wear out faster than you ever dreamed possible. I'm in my mid 30s and find my eyes, teeth, and knees are going much faster than I ever expected. Have fun with your sex goddess clone. I just want my old body back.

Re:Awesome
Awww screw your damned flying car, where are my holographic discs already!!! I got lots of stuff to back up, you got lots of stuff to back up, we all got tons of stuff to back up people! We got all these big fricking drives and haven't had an affordable optical backup medium since DVD! Don't give me that Blu Ray crap either, as we all know that was Sony's way of pushing lots of DRM. Last i checked you can't even play a burnt BD on a set top BD player, or watch BD movies on your PC! So instead of something made by a media company trying to push their multimedia DRM crap, how about a nice holographic disc made from the start for data like DVD was. Then it will become popular, the media companies will be forced to go with it since BD will end up another Laserdisc, and we can all be happy with nice shiny 400+ holodiscs.
I mean what good is your fricking flying car if you can't even back up your vids huh? Not very good at all. Besides you know the morons talking on cells would make the sky a giant trainwreck anyway. And the only thing a stupid artificial brain would be good for is if we can light a fire under the Japanese asses with it so they will hurry up and build us our perfect sexbots already! I want the very first Alyson Hannigan bot that rolls off the line, and I'll even pay extra for the Vamp Willow outfit.
I mean we can put a man on the moon, but here it is the 21st century and Spoom ain't got his flying car, we all don't have a decent disc to back up our stuff, and I don't have my Alyson Hannigan bot! What the hell good is all this progress for if we can't even get the necessities people!

Technically, it's +8 rads base. You probably have a high enough rad resistance to lower it to +2 (Somewhere between 62.5% and 75%, given that Fallout rounds in your favor, IIRC).
