Re:Already a victory
I can't wait to see that added to this lovely page:
http://www.conservapedia.com/Barack_ObamaIn case it's changed: The page as I write this. Note that the sysops there do have the habit of deleting history whenever they don't like it.
I knew of that site long before I knew about RationalWiki, which restores at least some of the faith in mankind that you lose when you visit Conservapedia.
And no mention of Conservapedia is complete without mentioning the game of Conservatroll.

OT: I do like Doctor Who, but didn't that sound an awful lot like that "magic phone booth" in Superman II where he magically avoided losing his powers by (insert cheesy script device here) and standing in the booth?
Of course, the cheese was expected in that episode of Doctor Who, since it was written by Russell T Davis.

Re:I was going to buy a Canon
You probably mean CHDK for Canon Powershot series cameras, which isn't firmware per se - it's a firmware addon, and you don't flash it into the camera, but load it separately from the inserted flash card. From here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK
CHDK does not replace the original firmware, and does not make any permanent changes to the camera. Instead, it is loaded from the SD card, either at startup or using the built in menu.
You are correct that it's open source indeed.
I'm using it on Powershot A650 and its feature set is amazing. The killer feature is probably recording RAW files, but there are many many more cool things to explore.
Just imagine the things possible to achieve with such camera if the firmware and specifications were open.

Re:Microsoft,Bethesda Destroying Console Gaming
There's a list of known bugs here:
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_Bugs
Slowdowns can sometimes be fixed by cleaning the cache or even defragging your disk. More memory helps, as well, as does lower graphics settings. Personally, I've only seen a couple of crashes, both during long sessions and because the game ran out of addressable memory (pretty much screaming "I leak like a sieve!"). If you have lots of RAM, you'll probably never see a leak related crash, however (I have 2GB).
-
Re:Microsoft,Bethesda Destroying Console Gaming
I love Fallout 3 and have never encountered a gameplay-breaking bug (with the exception of vampires in a sci-fi game...not sure how that slipped through testing). 3 crashes (quit to desktop) in more than a hundred hours of gameplay so far is more than acceptable to me.
But some people have definitely found bugs. Perhaps an unofficial patch ala Oblivion or Vampire Bloodlines will fix these.

Re:Now we know...
Kittens are for huffing. The orange one fuck you up real good. As the article says, "every time you edit uncyclopedia, God huffs a kitten". What it doesn't say is that every time you improve a piece of FOSS, God huffs a kitten too. And every time you (ok not YOU) have sex He huffs a kitten.
Actualy He doesn't even need an excuse, he's the universe's biggest fluffhead.

Citation please?
I don't know which source you got that from. Here's one more reputable than some fanboy site. The NPD Group, heard of them?
For the year 2007, Xbox 360 sold 4.62 million units, PS3: 2.56 million. [1]
For the year 2008 through November, Xbox 360 sold 3,295,400 while PS3 sold 2,818,900. [2]
But, you know, you're almost right. Through most of 2008, PS3 was selling better than Xbox 360, but look at September, October, and especially November.
I shouldn't spend so much time responding to AC's, but I wanted to point out that this one is not informative, just providing misinformation and accusing all dissenters of being fanboys when it seems like this AC's bias may lean toward the PS3, or maybe they were simply uninformed.

Re:Family Provide Our Best Stories
In Soviet Russia, the new overloards welcome you!
Actually, for proper "Russian Reversal" grammar, you need to make the subject singular (without articles), then fix the verb, and "you" has to be all caps, italicized and followed by exactly two exclamation points. Wikipedia
So it would correctly be: "In Soviet Russia, new overlord welcomes YOU!!"
Glad to be of assistance.

Guildwars Nightfall
In Guildwars Nightfall they had to change a NPCs name because people were offended by torture. That's why a Corsair Prisoner in the training area became a Sunspear Volunteer. The Corsairs are your enemies, while Sunspears are your friends obviously. http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sunspear_Volunteer http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Corsair_Prisoner

With the upcoming SDL user interface of FreeCiv it even looks like a modern game (was unfinished when i checked a couple of months ago).

Valuable Life Skills
Don't think of just entertainment, choose games that will teach the children valuable life skills. For example:
Teach them to Rule the World: Freeciv
Teach them the value of running over hookers: GTA 1&2
Teach them the awesomeness of fighting robots: One Must Fall 2097
Teach them to conquer the world in a different way: C&C Red Alert 3
And finally, teach them to conquer the world of worms (you never know): Wormux -

FreeCiv is a freeware version of Civilization that I still play. They have linux and windows releases.

I second that. Great version of a classic game, and highly addictive. I've lost more hours than I care to count playing this one...

'citation require'
I'll presume by "Canadian Film Board" you mean the NFB, and I can't find any reference to their involvement online.
It wouldn't fit the NFB's purpose to simply support the show, but they may have had resources that were licensed by it. And it may have been some other organization entirely -- can anyone back up the parent posts with detail?
tardis.wikia has this:
In 2008 it was announced that the CBC would no longer be funding Torchwood and would not air the second series (it was subsequently aired by a competing network, Space, about five months after its UK broadcast). It was rumored that the CBC had also dropped its funding for Series 4 of Doctor Who, which was supported by the fact the CBC no longer received screen credit on Series 4 episodes, but the CBC later said it was still supporting the series.
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Canadian_Broadcasting_Corporation
Funding in that sense would typically be investment in production in exchange for broadcasting rights. Partnership deals like that are normal for the CBC, which is not the same type of organization as the NFB.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Broadcasting_Corporation
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Film_Board_of_CanadaIf you'll check the credits for more shows, you'll notice the CBC, BBC, and other similar organizations often turn up in each other's credits. There's a long history of combining resources, and more elaborate partnerships ultimately involving the trading of shows rather than outright purchases of licenses.

Re:Wha.....
The phrase is actually Every time you masturbate... God kills a kitten.
Perhaps you're confusing this with SchrÃdinger's cat, which may or may not die every time you masturbate, depending on whether masturbation counts as observation. Kinky, huh? (Additionally, he may or may not have an o with an umlaut instead of an Ã, if you're observing from websites with better Unicode support).
Or perhaps you're confusing this whole thing with Kitten Huffing which is the main reason behind Australia's internet filter.
It's all very confusing, really.

Re:Prince of Darkness, hah!
"The RIAA's 'Prince of Darkness,' Washington DC lawyer Matthew Jan Oppenheim..."
How lang has he been Prince of Darkness? I bet not since 1979!
What I would like to see is the RIAA go toe-to-toe with IBM over copyright infringement. Prince of Darkness he may be
... but my money would be on the Nazgul.
According to the linked article Slashdot is responsible for the appellation:
This usage appears to have originated in a comment on Slashdot:
"Not long ago, the Black Gate of Armonk swung open. The lights went out, my skin crawled, and dogs began to howl. I asked my neighbor what it was and he said, 'Those are the NazgÃl. Once they were human, now they are IBM's lawyers.'" (IBM is headquartered in Armonk, New York). -
