If it makes you feel any better...
I am the original poster (and the person who started the "naked and petrified" trend on Segfault, though a bunch of other lame-brains picked up on it... the sexually explicit comments were NOT mine, and I'm also the author of the famous "immobilized and not fully clothed" letter to ESR, the first ever "naked and petrified" post to reach a moderation point of 5, and stay there), and I would like to clarify.
I would NEVER transform a girl into a statue unwillingly if she didn't enjoy being a statue. If she did NOT like being a statue, I would immediately restore her to her animate state, apologize thoroughly, and go look for females with more of a proclivity for being marble.
Rufies are NOTHING of the sort. They do NOT actually transform flesh into any kind of inert substance while preserving the consciousness of the transformed person. That's what's important.
In all of my fantasies, the women LOVE being statues. In fact, the transformation is usually voluntary, or at the least, temporary. Many of the women I talk to about this say they DON'T think they'd probably enjoy being statues. But until science or magic actually advances far enough to find out, we don't know WHAT it would be like to be a statue, and whether or not the women would enjoy it.
So how can you decide if it's good or bad?
And since it's something that can never happen, in our lifetimes or probably ever, what is the bag fat hairy yak-brained idea??
Petriphilia (or statuephilia) is a VERY common interest. You'd be surprised how many hundreds of us there are on the Internet, and how many THOUSANDS in the world. So before you switch into FLAME FLAME FLAME FLAME mode, maybe you should read what this article is actually saying. How would you like it if I criticized YOUR sexuality?
Okay, I'll do just that.
GOD, YOU'RE SICK! YOU ACTUALLY HAVE *SEX* WITH PEOPLE! THAT'S DISGUSTING! YOU CAN GET ALL KINDS OF DISEASED AND PREGNANCY AND STUFF DOING THAT!!! SICK SICK SICK!! YOU SEXUALISTS MAKE ME WANT TO VOMIT! I'M HEVER READING SLASHDOT AGAIN!
There. You didn't like it very much, did you.
Throw stones elsewhere, or better yet, don't throw stones at all.
I was actually rather disheartened when this got moderated up. That's not what's supposed to happen. My "Open Letter to ESR" was supposed to be moderated up, and it was. Because, not to brag, it was very clever. This was no more clever than my favorite cartoon, Pokey the Penguin. It was meant for those who, like me, keep thresholds at -1, sort by score, and always skip to the bottom of the article to find the REAL good stuff.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused by it being moderated up.

Re:F117
A Russian aviation fan, who naturally happens to be a fanatic Serb supporter, put up a page about US and Allied losses in the Kosovo campaign.
Check the site out for more information about the F-117 loss, and other claimed US and Allied losses. The F-117 is credited to SA-6 missiles in this page.

This is a translation from a page in Turkish...Perhaps you will have noticed this other URL. I studied some Turkish some years ago, for a trip there, and while I can't read it, it does seem to me to be a close counterpart to the English version, and contains all of the same political and social commentary.
I agree that there is a good deal of stylistic variation on the English version. There are also differences in transliteration of Turkish words (Türkiye comes out Turkey some places, Tirkiye, in other places), etc. The most likely explaination is tht Mr. Cagri wrote the text in Turkish, and several different people helped in the translation to English.
The fact that there is a Turkish version which looks to be well composed, seems to be a good indication that this is not a hoax.

For being exploited beyond anyone's wildest dreams, this guy took the whole thing rather well. As a matter of fact, he even went and turned it into a "Make the world a better place" thing.
I can't get over how he didn't get pissed off over this, or at least he didn't mention it in the story. And to further prove that this world has not yet turned into a pulsing blob of shit, alot of people sent pictures to him, with various humorous messages like "WE LOVE MAHIR" or "WE KISS YOU TOO!".
Nice little story that shows that one person can make a difference ;)

Natural Vision ImprovementBefore getting costly, dangerous surgery, look into natural vision improvement. It was developed in the 20's by an eye-doctor named William Bates. It is harmless and free and has helped me to a certain degree (like
.5 diopters in the first month and 1.0 diopter since). Many report excellent results, complete reversals, and even above average sight (20/15 or 20/10). There are a wealth of books and resources on the subject. Here is a FAQ and an excellent site:

Re:I'M NOT LOOKING FOR PORN!!
Yes, in addition to a number of "mainstream" sites with interesting references to petrification, there are actually two very good "for statuephile by statuephile" websites, complete with message boards, a chat room, hundreds of images, hundreds of stories, etc etc etc.
Here you go:
The Hall of Statuary
The Medusa Realm
They're both EXCELLENT sites, and have links to other sites of interest. Stop by the message boards and say hello if you want, we'd love to hear from you. -
Re:Is there a need for Java?Concerning the application part, here are some interesting links. I'm not saying that these are a good representation of anything, but just to show you that you CAN do other things with Java than dopey applets. These are some I came across at Jars which I think were interesting and/or useful.
- JSetiTracker, and add-on Java application to the Seti@Home command line client.
- Binary Genetic Algorithm Tool.
- Nova, an IRC client application.

MAE LING MAK NAKED AND PETRIFIED
Dear ESR:
(No GIFs due to patent problems)
I'm sure everyone at Slashdot is familiar with the internal strife and conflict that can currently be found in the Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified movement, a primary cause of which is YOU and your cronies and your watered-down version of the ideals of Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified, which you laughably refer to as Mae Ling Mak Immobilized and Not Fully Clothed. You've taken what was good and pure about Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified and watered it down so it would be more tolerable and acceptable to conservative blowhards who are afraid to think outside the terms of society's established notions and conditions. This is detailed on our web page (no GIFs due to patent problems!!!) in our founder's document "Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified vs. Mae Ling Mak Immobilized and Not Fully Clothed," so I won't repeat what's already been said.
You state that by changing "Petrified" to "Immobilzied" you placate those who are afraid of the idea of petrification, and by replacing "Naked" with "Not Fully Clothed" you placate those who fear nudity. I SAY THAT THIS IS WRONG!!! The entire HEART of Mae Ling (No GIFs due to patent problems) Mak naked and petrified is MAE LING MAK.... NAKED.... AND PETRIFIED. The nudity and the petrification are the essential elements!
This bastardized philosophy you preach flies in the face of the Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified movement, which you ONCE claimed to support! (No GIFs due to patent problems) Now you've stomped on our heads on your rise to glory with your own hacked-up version of our philosphy. "Immobilized and not fully clothed" indeed! Why, that could be referring to a paralyzed Polish cowboy wearing a bikini for all we know! (No GIFs due to patent problems)
We know what's GOOD for the people, even if the people don't know what's good for themselves. What's good for the people is Mae Ling Mak, naked, and petrified. The people (No GIFs due to patent problems) NEED a naked Mae Ling Mak statue. You can't dispute this. You believe this yourself. And yet you refuse to stand up for what you believe! You say, "Well, maybe it's okay if she's not petrified, as long as she can't move," or (No GIFs due to patent problems) "Well, maybe she doesn't have to be naked, but she could at least take her shirt off or something." You BELIEVE she should be naked and petrified, but you ALLOW other lesser variations on this perfect theme into what could otherwise be a strong, world-dominating paradigm! (No GIFs due to patent problems)
You've sold out to the court of popular opinion. You're a blight on the face of the Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified movement. I hope you enjoy your Mae Ling Mak Immobilzed and Not Fully Clothed movement while it lasts, because guess what, we're going to run you (No GIFs due to patent problems) out of town!
FURTHER (No GIFs due to patent problems) NOTE: Please see THIS COMMENT in which several misconceptions of a person referencing Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified incorrectly were addressed.
Anyway, my QUESTION, is in your official response to (no GIFs due to patent problems) our founder's attack on the Mae Ling Mak Immobilized and Not Fully Clothed movement, you left SEVERAL major points unaddressed.
1. How you expect EITHER of the two Mae Ling Mak immobilization movements to compete with its competitors, the FreeMLM, OpenMLM, and NetMLM movements, with all this silly infighting that's going on.
2. The accusation that you simply watered-down Mae Ling Mak Naked and Petrified not for any real moral reason, or even to make it more acceptable to the general public, but simply to make it more acceptable to big business and help to increase profit potential? (No GIFs due to patent problems) Do I smell the rancid stench of Capitalism on your breath, ESR??
3. Ain't Mae Ling Mak really cute?
4. (No GIFs due to patent problems)
5. Just what's the big idea, anyway???
Those are all the questions.

Also a solution similar to this would allow some that speaks German or someone that has translated babelfish to english can post their finished translation.
Isn't it amazing that the internet has few language bounds? (A bit off topic, but this is important)

Blue has many good things going for it
Disclaimer: Although I work for one of the biggest smart card makers in the world and the inventor of Java Card (Java on smart card), as far as I know AmEx is not using our cards.
As for Blue, Frost and Sullivan's analysis is a good place to start. Personally, I think it is a good thing: get consumers used to idea of smart cards and making everything free at first really helps. And if they use Java Card based smart card, they'll be able to roll out new features in the future. Besides, free card, free reader and 0% APR are hard to beat (unless they start cutting checks, I guess). At least I've applied for the Blue card.
Linux support probably can be found at: http://www.linuxnet.com/ (I say probably because AmEX is highly likely to use one of the well known readers, much of them supported by MUSCLE project)
As for security: much of the first 40 posting I've read are either wrong or misinformed. I'd recommed that you read some smart card introduction before posting here:

The more they restrict commercial music...

I for one welcome these restrictions. I don't think it should be _easy_ or _cheap_ to listen to someone like Celine Dion. Masochism is no fun if you don't have to work for it...

RIAA is a dinosaur
Free music is the way to go. Who cares if I can't hear Celene Dion or Mariah Carey ?? The problem here is that people are whining "I won't be able to hear my favourite artist on mp3 because the RIAA wants to protect their work by using proprietary music encoding". Well guess what ? Don't listen. If the artist you enjoy won't release their work in the format you desire, why are you still listening ? The sad fact is that the person who owns the copyright gets to decide on the method of distribution and they mostly choose the kind which will squeeze the most money out of you.
If you really want to hear certain artists or certain songs which are only available under this new format, well then you've got to play their game and shell out the money for the appropriate equipment and downloads. Just like if you want to run Microsoft Word. Otherwise - find an alternative. Support the musicians that acknowledge that you have rights as music consumers. If you download a song and store it using your resources IT'S YOUR SONG. Same as GNU is your software.
It's darwinism, folks. The formats you support are the ones which will survive. If you don't take any shit, it's much less likely they'll try and give you any.

OK, here is a suggestion or twoFirst things first, Cameras
Go to Pawnshop buy 6 camcorders (sub 400$)
they do not have to be good but should have remote IR-ctlr with at least on/off
3 should have S-VIDEO out , and 3 with RCA out.
Amps actually may not needed for under 50'.
Also 50' is never just 50' once your in the walls.
Best bet is try it on the floor before cutting walls.
Now with the Remotes, cut them open & hard wire pads,
mount under camera with shiny L flange.
There you are 6 Remote control Cameras, Motor mounts and other things are easy add-ons.
You can also have the units keep on camera logs by reusing the Tape in the unit.
If you Wire in more controls(rw/ff etc) to the remote and track Time on server side accessing the log (past images) is easy.
Now on the Boxen Side
Get three Video capture cards with good PCI support. Each card should have RCA and SVideo inputs and Soft control of inputs. Miro, or ATI both have this several others too, you may have to get different cards as some drivers will not enumerate multicards correctly.
Now you have 6 Instanly available Video Streams and ability to log to file with hardware compression if available on your card to backups.
I know you can do this on Macs too as I have a 8500/G3 with 6 Video in/outs this way and a BWG3 with 4 video-io and FireWire.
Several Shareware apps for Macs already do some of this. Check out
http://members.xoom.com/hsoftware/inde x.html
Hope this helps -

Re:Brings a tear to my eye.
Java BBS
How about a conferencing system? (I always viewed a BBS as a conferencing system wannabe :-)
Way back in the Dark Ages (mid 80s) I wrote the Unix-based CoSy system that (among other things) serves as the basis for BIX (Byte Information Exchange), (also NIX in Japan and CIX in the UK).
A while back I started in on a Java version of CoSy (with some added features I've been wanting to do), and its largely complete but has been on the back burner for a while now.
However, some Bixen recently have expressed some interest in it, and there seems to be some interest here, so I'll put the stuff up on my web page as soon as I get a chance (I need to check the files and add appropriate copyright/GPL notices, etc. Maybe (maybe) over the weekend.
(I'd love to be able to release the C source for the original CoSy but I don't have the rights. It was originally developed at U. of Guelph and the rights later sold to some Vancouver-based company who don't seem to have done anything with it in the last few years. The Web eclipsed it to a degree.) -
Re:transparent dock/root menus?i use afterstep (unfortunately the web site is the ugliest on earth), and one of my favourite features is the transparent wharf and root menus, which when combined with the transparent aterms makes for a nice-looking glassy desktop.
i have been thinking about trying windowmaker, but am wondering if they have or are planning to add more transparency support. anyone have any news? thanks

Holiday Special anyone?
C'mon people, you're supposed to ignore trolls, not feed 'em. Katz is nothing more, nothing less. Katz's job is just to stir things up by saying something outrageous in the hopes that someone, ANYONE will notice. As to the silly marketing being something new...WTF...Remember: the Star Wars Holiday Special was made in 1978. Actually, I think there was MORE marketing & hype back then. Christ, when the first one hit I went see Darth Vader at Thalheimers; a JC Penny type dept. store when I was 7. I still have a big photo of Darth Vader that says Thalheimers on it.
