Re:it was a scam
Because it costed around $1000.
I wish I was kidding, but every part was overdesigned. There's WiFi in it, it has a camera (for the juice pack DRM), a stupidly powerful motor to apply tons of pressure over a large area (which is why it's easier to squeeze with your hands, less area for the pressure), the molds are ginormous for the plastic outside and inside, the parts are custom and almost NEVER off the shelf at all, etc.
In short, no limit was set on what they wanted to do and it was crazily overengineered and way too high quality; depending on the product itself, this might be fine, but this JUST SQUEEZES JUICE.
If you don't believe me, just watch this guy tear it down then. He's ogling the hardware itself because it's so fucking crazy how high quality the parts are.

Re:New movies suck
It had a female lead who was more than capable of taking on the bad guys. Yes, there was a bit of the "Dirty Dozen" element, but Pine's character existed more for romantic tension and to help this strange woman in a strange land adapt to very new surroundings.
It didn't have bra burning scenes, if that's your idea of feminism, but I know one thing, my youngest daughter absolutely loved that film and Gal Gadot has become quite a role model for young girls and women, so if that's not a female-positive message, the very essence of feminism, then I don't know what is.
But don't believe just me:

Re:Just like the Unabomber
Nothing new here folks, same method was used to nail Ted Kaczynski - of course it was much more difficult back then so a far greater accomplishment.
Actually, I think David Kaczynski simply turned in his brother after reading his manifesto and recognizing his brother's writing style...
Just like a Computer.
If you want call that the same method, well, I guess you are entitled, but that probably implies that Satoshi's brother works for the NSA...
For all we know, he might.
If that were true, I think the NSA creating bitcoin would be a far greater accomplishment than nabbing Ted...
Personally, I wonder if some government somewhere didn't crack out a bunch of numbers on an idle supercomputer just to jam up their debt.

John Day, Oregon
My wife and I bundled the dogs into the RV and made the trek to John Day, Oregon. The town had mowed a big field next to their airport and run water and sewer lines for RVs.
The airport is on top of a hill, so there was a good view of the surrounding hills. My pictures of the total eclipse itself are on film that I just dropped off at a good photo shop (All the (expurgated) drug stores either don't do film at all any more, or don't return the (redacted) negatives.) but I set up my cell phone pointed west, and got a video of the arriving and departing umbra.
-
Watched and recorded it with my family
We have relatives who live in the path of totality, so we drove from Seattle out to Wyoming and stayed with them. From their yard we watched the total eclipse, and I recorded it two ways:

Re:Not trig as we understand it today.
The tablet doesn't really contain trigonometry as we understand it today. There is no concept of angle, for instance.
That's absolutely true and also why the discovery is so interesting. It is trigonometry. Trigonometry without angles. The authors have a YouTube video which is very informative Here. There are so many interesting things about this. Angles are not needed to work with triangles. The sexagesimal numbering system had many advantages over our current decimal system from an application perspective. It's just a whole new way of thinking about trig. Anyway, it's well worth 20 minutes of your time.

Re:Fascist
That certainly shows the other side in a less forgiving light.
... And let's not pretend that this video is the standard chain of events. The whole reason we have this news post from the beginning is that someone decided those protests were worth killing over.Go watch any protest at the start where there is some "anti" group protesting and you'll see something similar. Hell even Jordan Peterson experienced in Toronto when he was speaking in public. This isn't an uncommon occurrence by the left, it's standard operating procedure. That was Canada. This is in the US, and you can find plenty of other examples.

Stop calling everything you don't agree with Fascist.
Oh come on now it's obviously fascist. I mean, just look at these very peaceful anti-confederate protesters and that fascist chubby kid. Doesn't it look like they not going to do him any harm? I mean, it's right to the point where even the cops are having enough of this bullshit.

Here's an excellent video
on why it won't take over the earth and why, those who believe it do are distracting themselves from other more serious problems with A.I. (and other problems in general of course).
Unfortunately, as this video of a (Ted?) talk makes clear, there are some pretty prominent individuals who think this way (Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Stephen Hawkins) but it makes a convincing case without being histrionic that they're wrong. The video is so compelling that although I have the greatest respect for these individuals, (and a deep fascination with A.I. and career involving technology), I have to say, in this case, I disagree with them (and wish they'd turn their brilliance towards something more useful).

The most signifficant advancement since bullets
This topic of drones and their use for violent eds and how it's changing things just came up in a recent episode of Sam Harri's waking up podcast where he interviewed Gavin De Becker a security expert who runs a company specializing in personal protection. The main point of the interview was not drones but violence overall, however De Becker starts discussing drones towards the end of the podcast after the 2 hour 10 minute mark
His main point is this: when it comes to inflicting tissue damage, the most significant advancements in the history of weaponry have been those that have increased the distance between the attacker and the target. Such advancements reduce the risk to the assailant, thus increasing the amount of individuals willing to use these technologies to commit violence. This is why accelerated metal projectiles were such an effective discovery, and after those prior to drones the technology that's had the most impact has been remote detonated bombs, because they increase the distance between the target and the assailant even more. Drones go even further than this because they're essentially smart/guided bomb platforms or biological agent delivery systems (airborne pathogens dispersed over crowds etc)
Becker states that in his opinion commercial drones are the most significant advancement in tissue damage technology in a thousand years (ie. since bullets) because they're very cheap, very easy to use, and very hard to defend against. And the maneuverability is extremely high: drones with collective pitch can do stuff like this and it doesn't take that long for an individual to learn to pilot them.. When you add to that the fact that swarm technology already exists allowing a single operator to control up to 50 small drones that will avoid crashing into each other but can be guided to hit a single target, and that in the future the drones may well be entirely autonomous and not require even a signal to the controller, I find it hard to disagree with De Becker's estimation that this will be much, much more relevant advancement in weapon technology than people currently think.
As he points out, 'every weapon that has ever been developed has been used", we know that commercial drones are used as improvised weapons already, but this is in the very early stages. It's only a matter of time before some prominent politician/celebrity/business leader somewhere is assassinated by a drone or some terror group successfully carries out an attack in the west, and once the meme is out there, they're going to start ramping up. Compare to the use of vehicles as tools of terror; the technology itself has existed for over a century, but now that the weaponizing of personal vehicles has become a trend it's begun to spread and has started to be used even by groups pother than islamic terrorists, but a vehicle attack is very limited in scope and accuracy and can only be used to deliver random damage.
Drones are far more precise, and, when used correctly, far more deadly while at the same time being massively cheaper than vehicles. The fact that you can currently fly a drone in most western cities without much care of being caught even if you fly it in a no-fly area is a problem.

Re:And so?
Also important to remember that he was a computer scientist addressing the "science" behind an issue outside his area of expertise.
Fair enough. Here's Dr Jordan Peterson's interview with the guy https://youtu.be/SEDuVF7kiPU
Yes, so he goes straight to an alt-right anti-PC conspiracy theorist (Jordan Peterson's the kind of person who says "white privileged" is a racist term, his credibility is not good) rather than some legitimate news agency (or even a semi-legitimate one like Fox News)... Of course Peterson and Damore are entitled to their views... But what was in his treatise about echo chambers again?
I'm going to make two bets about this.
1. He's a classic case of "figures don't lie, but liars figure". The science has been misrepresented to reach his conclusions.
2. Something else is going on here. Google, being a classic "whiny liberal" organisation sends people like this off on nice paid vacations with educational courses to help them see the errors of their way. His manifesto was written in such a way he knew full well he was about to be fired and it certainly isn't something that would get a CEO called back from holiday. An memo like Damore's is something HR would deal with. So my second bet is, the manifesto is a smoke screen and he was fired for another reason Google is not permitted to divulge (especially if he's sued for wrongful dismissal).
Yes I've read Damore's manifesto, and yes I've read your links. They're both tenuous at best, putting a bunch of names behind your ideas does not magically make them correct.
Third bet, this will be forgotten about in a month. -

North Korea = the only Jew-free people left in the
world? Watching this video, I can't help but admire them. They aren't going to let these evil scumbags take over their country and ruin their race, and they WILL do whatever is necessary to survive and defend themselves. I genuinely believe that they are either the last, or one of the few remaining good forces left in this rotten world, otherwise fully taken over by Jews. (For example, the USA is nothing but a Jew-run police state at this point.)

Re:This is what real fascism looks like
A 1930th Germany was not a fascist dictatorship either. What happened? Here's a little insight from Naomi Wolf. My grandparents told me how during Stalin repressions KGB was eavesdropping everyone and sending less fortunate ones to forced labour camp. We are not there yet, but we already got NSA to take care of... needs.

Mine Still Works
I got my Model I TRS-80 in 1979, and it still works like a charm. I just fired it up last week. I never got the disk drives, so it's the cassette model, 16k Level 2 Basic. I have the expansion interface, but it's not hooked up. I learned assembly on that thing, played Scott Adams Adventures, Big Five arcade games, Microsoft's Flight Simulator. And just last year I started learning how it actually works (I know/knew nothing about hardware) by watching Ben Eater's amazing videos. Better late than never!

Re:Socialism's latest success
Yeah, perhaps it's just a complete coincidence that all those places had such bad luck while proclaiming socialism.
What's bad luck? You should examine results, not luck, and that's a tougher question to examine. You have to consider the gap between policy, practice, and outcome. Sometimes all three may not even be related at all.
Furthermore, nope, not all of them made such proclamations. In fact, they declared a lot of different things. Whatever worked to get the crowds cheering. But then, who promises anything else? Even when they point out the grumbling, however justified, they use it to get a crowd to cheer for them out of resentment.
Making an enemy is often effective.
Even then, why not do the things associated with good luck rather than the things associated with misfortune?
Oh, so you claim you want to be superstitious now? That seems imprudent. I suggest not believing in the Curse of Tecumseh.
