Re:PUSSY!

What do you want!?
I spend so much money on computers that I should be ashamed of myself. I am a grown man but if a relative or immediate family ask me how much that costs I pretend that I got it dirt cheap. I even quickly throw away the receipt. I promise myself not to do this any more in 2019! So now I try to budget and if I see something I like I do research on it.. I do not just purchase everything computer related randomly any more.
On https://duckduckgo.com/ all review pages are from years ago! and the only thing modern about the webpages are the videos that play automatically... and i keep on having to customise adblocker to block them.. And then duckduckgo seems to want to give me Japanese websites which have backgrounds that flicker with a advertising video that flickers so much you have to look away from your monitor..
I think I may be the only person who still uses the World Wide Web, everybody else is stuck on Facebook and YouTube. And now I have my suspicions that the Vivaldi web browser may be spying on me. All these software companies can never get enough of everybody's information. What do you want? https://youtu.be/zalndXdxriI

Re: Bullshit
The way I understand it, take people out of extreme poverty, educate the women, lower child mortality and give access to family planning and voila, everyone, regardless of culture, background, religion stabilizes close to the replacement value.
I though that everyone knew this by now.
Or not?

Food delivery in Korea has done this for decades
You order a delivery meal from a restaurant. A guy brings the food in regular restaurant bowls with regular utensils, not disposable. You eat your food. You put all the bowls, utensils, and waste food outside your door. The guy comes back later to pick everything up, and takes it all back to the restaurant which is better outfitted to handle mass dish cleaning and waste food disposal.

Re:Explains the crazy cat lady phenomena
So the lady on the Simpsons that throws cats at people was just schizo from cat parasites.
Or it's just a joke.
Y'know, THAT is the exact reasons why I prefer anime/cartoon over real-life actors. With live action set in current time like CSI, people might become confused about things. "That picture is just too pixelated -- let's zoom in to see the details." Also, actual CSI Effect - "Our criminal justice system must find ways to adapt to increased expectations"
You can't get confused over a cartoon, there is Absolutely. No. Way. to get them confused with things in real life. (The bright colors usually give it away.)
Or so I thought. Guess I'm going to start watching static on TV instead. (They're HERE!) -

In case you aren't familiar with it, here's the King Crimson song I'm talking about, from a brilliant live version they did.

Re:Stock pump con
Love conspiracy theorists
;). Are you saying that the hopper, one of the most obsessively-monitored-by-amateur-spy-shots things on the planet right now, isn't real and was just photoshopped? You do realize that there are frequent drone flyovers of the thing, right?Since I've seen this notion going around the TSLAQ circles before, I'm going to guess that you're part of that bubble who retweets people like Mark Spiegel and the like, since I've seen this conspiracy theory pop up there. It goes like this: "Look, the positioning of the american flag is all wrong! And the things in the background don't match some other pictures I saw! Fake!".
Hint: There's two American Flags on it, one on each side.
Just letting you know: you're not the plucky hero of this story.

Re: ahemm... the new Church
Start here if you prefer listening than reading. Otherwise buy his book which summarizes all we know about sleep.
Having followed his advices in the last 8 months I started sleeping 7 to 9 hours per night. The effect is nothing short of miraculous...
Why do I know so much (general culture) people often ask me. Could it be in part that I read hundreds of books while growing up, every day for hours, usually before sleep? I think so...

old but fit men
Certainly, it is impossible to send young baby-face astronauts to the Mars by 2020. It is too risky. If they die in an accident the young promising lives will be destroyed and people will be upset.
However, there are fit old men who could risk it. For example, try to do the exercises which this 70+ years old mad does: https://youtu.be/HMe2JyoIOYk
Such men if selected and trained properly could do it. -

Long live the classic Mac
I'm really happy to see that the vintage Mac community is alive and active as these machines still have so much creative potential. I restored my Mac SE/30 just in time for the 30th anniversary of its release and have been using it to make pixel art with MacPaint and 8 voice music with Super Studio Session.
I once had it on the Internet with an Ethernet card on the PDS slot, but ever since the hard drive died, I haven't bothered setting up the Internet connection again because I've discovered that the functional constraints of the system actually encourage me into a focused "flow" experience.
I hope this new platform eventually supports HyperCard stacks. There's been a nice resurgence thanks for the Internet Archive https://archive.org/details/hy..., and I'd love to distribute some adventure games without using a Javascript virtual machine.

It's not biometrics, it's having an Apple device
Creating computer generated realistic bio-metrics is not that hard. See link below filled with very real looking computer generated faces.
What Dorsey is saying is that they want to move to authentication based on whether you own a recent Apple device. Still not that hard to beat by a bot, but sure, will filter out low cost bots (and 80% of the smartphone market with it).

Re:Good
Do we want the people who deplatformed Scott Horton and fired James Damore to control Wikipedia? Supposedly Google employees share internal blacklists of other employees who don't have Right Think and keep them away from projects of influence.
On the other hand, I think I've donated a higher percentage of my net worth to Wikimedia than Google is doing here, so it's probably just a token.

The seal isn't great either, there is a guy on TMC who didn't close it properly (car said shut, but it wasn't) and the boot got completely flooded. When he presses on the carpet it releases a puddle of water now. Apparently there is no drain!
Unfortunately the design has already been approved for the EU so that's what we are getting.

Re:Rian Johnson killed Star Wars
Hmmmmm, maybe. Could also be that she's not really flying at that point either ( https://youtu.be/e2Wm5tuTllk?t... ). The force was never meant to be some deus ex machina though that will just make things happen just because. Who's to say Luke didn't use the force to physically (forcially?) push the torpedoes down the hole? They do seem to make a pretty unnatural turn. Anakin was said to be extremely gifted and all that but he never just knew how to do things, he'd been pod racing for a while and knew how to fly and if I recall he's on autopilot til he gets there, he does get lucky sure but doesn't do anything really out there, he thinks a roll is a good move.

Nothing new
In the middle of last century, the 45 rpm record did the exact same thing. Before that, pop songs would have long intros and the singer might not come in until the third chorus. For example, here's a Tommy Dorsey/Sinatra record from the 40's that was a big hit (it's a cool tune, so you should listen to it):
I wish some Tommy Dorsey/Sinatra tunes could have made it into the Fallout games. The song still comes in at 3:19, but the structure is pure 78 rpm.
Once the 45 rpm came out, it was one measure and the singer comes in. Verse/chorus/verse/chorus. Not even a bridge sometimes.
It has been said that 3 minutes should be the outer limit for a pop song. One of the greatest records of all time had an average song length of about 2 minutes, and many songs much shorter. Here is a great song from The Ramones' self-titled first record that comes in at exactly 1:30. No fat, no filler, all pumping pure pop goodness.

It was a joke.
It shouldn't be. Enthusiasts are an inquisitive and experimental crowd. You may have made a joke but your joke has been a very serious question asked over and over again on online forums.
People do all sorts of wonderful things such as using full sized car radiators: https://www.reddit.com/r/shitt...
I wish I still had the link to it but in the mid 2000s I remember seeing someone who laid copper tubing in a giant S bend under the foundation slab of his new build garage and cycled that through his CPU. Dirt and cement have a high specific heat so that apparently worked well enough that he ran into condensation issues in winter.
Also people with annoying voices like Linus Tech tips also get in on making jokes: https://youtu.be/EV6oYfcAwLM?t...
So next time you make a joke, add a smiley

Re:Rian Johnson killed Star Wars
Ray was mentored too. Kylo was grooming her to be his partner, and deliberately demonstrated the power of the Force for her, in particular the mind trick.
These are all just standard copy/paste criticisms that don't align with the actual movie. This is a rather good debunking: https://youtu.be/4iqN68PejEc

How does it behave if I kick it, whack it with a bat or just mess with it? Not that I'd normally even think of doing that, but the researchers are giving me ideas.

Modern day Scientologists do too (no surprise there since the religion was created as a get-rich-quick scheme by a Science Fiction author).
One could possibly interpret God as being an "alien" in the Mormon branch of Christianity too- although I don't think Mormons like that analogy.

Summary of scientific advancements in 2018 video
I think we made a lot of progress in the sciences last year.. Just check out this video I came across that summed up 2018's most noticeable, and possibly world changing, scientific advancements and discoveries fairly well. https://youtu.be/xfQ2si7ksTY
