The Black Sun - fine you can call that one - I had to look that one up. Just about anything Pepe the frog is a post meant to troll people like this ex-NSA hacker.

In order to be a proper victim there has to be a group that's in power and victimizing you, and if one doesn't truly exist, or isn't as organized as you would like you have to take the extra step and create one. The group that is making fun of people fighting to be top-victim is obviously the best choice. We can ignore the fact that group isn't actually all-white, or even all male because if you say "certain Pepe the Frog" meme's and exempt any that are from minorities or females while declaring any from a white male racist you built a nice little sifting box.

The famous statement "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" (incorrectly attributed to Voltaire) has always been the best summary of the principle and right of free speech. Given the sad state of civics education in the past three decades, we're seeing the result of this failure to learn this basic idea. When we put "feels" above principle, we get garbage like NEMESIS that ignores the far left crackpots and singles out the far right crackpots. People really need to listen to their elders' take on free speech and democracy and not be a sucker.

These are great examples of times when the computer messed up the day. You can't make an informed decision based on that alone (well, you can, but science can't). For balance, we now need to list every time the computer saved the day and see which method really wins.

Well, I suppose if you are trying to say that I'm wanting to go back to woodburning rockets.

My point is that people have a tendency to believe that a human in the loop equals bad, and that computers will always be accurate.

I'm dealing with that very thiing right now as we write. There is a process that currently involves hand checking a number of databases.

This is being replaced with an automated checking process that is demonstrably less accurate than the hand checked version.

I can demonstrate this easily, but there is a powerful meme at work that says even if hand checking is more accurate, it is less accurate.

But that's how people are - the biggest advantage is that the hand checks are challenged all the time, around 20 percent. but the acceptance rate on the automated version is 100 percent. So whatever, do it and move on to the next project. Fortunately, this is not the sort of thing that causes People to die, but if they are going to launch these things fairly close to populated areas when doing polar orbit launches, they better hope that the always more accurate computer controlled goboom works every time.

That doesn't really answer the question: why are you so intent on making Youtube videos when you are making essentially no money off of them and you surely don't find them enjoyable to make?

YouTube is a platform for building an audience for my side business. You don't make money on YouTube. You build a business around YouTube. Yes, I do enjoy making videos. I've done it for three years now. First on a specialized channel and now on a generalized channel.

I'm thinking about doing the same for Silicon Valley. Most videos about Silicon Valley is about technology and people. Very few are about Silicon Valley as a place and I know the local landmarks.

Disclaimer, not an Xbox person (#PCMasterRace), but the hate is pretty easy to explain.

Mass Effect 3, even ending notwithstanding, had a rather notable response on a number of fronts. A whole lot of them had to do with the time constraints, difficult to achieve under normal circumstances, but far harder when EA and Microsoft were telling them they needed to add trendy stuff too, it took away development time from things that really could have used more development efforts. One of the things that fell squarely into this category was the Kinect integration - they even had a nifty promo video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?....

But let's focus on the Kinect aspects specifically. It boiled down to a number of voice commands to issue orders to squadmates and change weapons and similar functions that were otherwise performed through menu options. This sort of thing screamed 'forced mechanic' since the delay could be a problem during combat, but it gets even worse when we think through it a bit more. That sort of functionality could be readily accomplished with any Bluetooth headset, and would have allowed voice commands to be present on the PC, too. Plenty of gamers have such headsets for multiplayer, and 100% of the functionality the Kinect provides could be done just as well with non-Kinect hardware...but in order for those options to be available, the Kinect must be used. I'm still dealing with the damn Starchild in 2018 because a game that didn't need Kinect was forced to add it in a way that only needed Kinect to satisfy the requirement from Microsoft in 2012.

That's just one example of a game for which Kinect usage was a lateral move at best, and detrimental to the game as a whole at worst.

Now, I think there are games that lend themselves to the Kinect control paradigm. Others in this thread have excellent examples, from "the floor is lava" to dancing games to sports titles. It's a good mechanism that readily competes with the Wii remote and the Playstation Move controllers, exceeding them in a number of cases. However, the hate ultimately comes not from the demographic of those games, but the demographic of games which lend themselves to standard controllers. When those players were 'heavily incentivized' to use the Kinect for reasons of dubious benefit to the games being played, that is the source of the hate.

Think about how you'd feel if you had dedicated your career to producing detailed, highly-nuanced, daily reports on a whole range of intelligence topics for the most powerful national leader on the planet - only to discover that the new guy is completely uninterested in any information that can't be expressed in crayon drawings and bumper sticker catchphrases. Now throw in civil servant wages, and ask yourself whether that job would be in any way attractive to you?

I live in Norway. I bought a used Yamaha WR250R, put studded knobbies on it, and started winter riding on it a few weeks back.
