it mostly came out of government functions. Schools, court buildings, etc. People were 'triggered' because a lot of non Christians get kinda nervous about the cult-like atmosphere of the evangelicals, the fact that many of our closest allies are still theocracies and the thousands of years of recorded history of religion being used in conjuncture with government to oppress.
Through a lot of hard fought battles America became a secular nation, there are those of us who want to keep it that way. And then there are those among us who do not. -

I certainly have doubt, and I consider myself quite reasonable.
I suspect this fellow has a rather distorted opinion of who a "reasonable person" is, or is grossly over-estimating opinions.
Maybe he's including "life in the universe we will never encounter"? That I think I can buy into. The universe is just too big for there not to be life elsewhere, probably a lot of elsewheres. But be it in the past, present, or future, the tense doesn't really matter because our current understanding of physics prevents us from ever being able to even discover evidence of their existence, and the problem just grows more difficult as the universe continues to expand.
I love Kurz's videos, and he did a wonderful (2 part) video on the subject, The Fermi Paradox. It's both educational and enlightening - a "must watch" for anyone pondering aliens.

The Trump thing is not really relevant to the topic save that comparatively we knew a lot about Clinton, included decades of efforts to attack her. We knew and still know relatively little about Trump, not even how much his tax bill will make him. Basically if you know 20% about person A and 80% about person B, then you have to multiply all the bad stuff about person A by 4 to even have a rough guess about the person.
As far as the Facebook reset, sure, why not? No such a reset wouldn't stop someone determined to find the information, but given a couple years the average person would have more difficulty. Basically the difference is it is fair game to look at politicians in more detail. When a politician hides information you should assume the worst. If there is one thing I'd wish for the new year it is for people to automatically distrust when someone says the words, "Believe me."

No. We can make systems that behave like they have negative mass. But that's not the same thing. Here is a layman-level video about it.
Energy is easier to think about in a way since we have a defined ground state to work from -- a vacuum at absolute zero. Normal energy of course is any deviation above that state. Negative energy would be a deviation below that state. How can you get below a ground state? Well the only real way is if the ground state is not an actual ground state. In calculus terms, what we see as the ground state now is actually a local minimum but not an absolute minimum.
Of course the problem there is even if that's true, and you find a way to get below our local minimum.. you'd probably destroy the universe as it snaps itself down to the new minimum you've found. So that's not great.
Obviously even with that loose description, there's some caveats. In particular, we don't know with any degree of accuracy what happens when we go smaller than the limits of quantum mechanics. Where does the "borrowed" energy come from for virtual particles? Why do they have to return it? And why is there such a mathematically concise relationship between how much they borrow and how quickly it has to be returned? We know the math works (by testing it intensely,) but not even the smartest scientists in the world can answer the "why" questions. So its possible that whatever we're borrowing that energy from does indeed briefly get what we would consider to be negative energy. Not that it would be any use to us even if we somehow proved such a thing happens.. we can't break the laws of nature no matter how well we describe them.

You can get the same effect from a pre-dawn launch from Canaveral. The contrail, being so high up in the atmosphere, is lit by the sun while the ground and most of the sky above the observer is still in darkness. On the west coast the conditions for this to happen occur after sunset. On the east coast the conditions occur before sunrise.

So they're heading back towards the solution we used for the Shuttle's solid rocket boosters - attach parachutes and let them drift down into the ocean, where a ship tracks them down and picks them up.

This is not the first project like this, there is 1km stretch of solar road in Tourouvre-au-Perche that powers the village's entire grid of street lights.

The problem is that is the biggest installation available, and it still sucks - when you can have a solar farm installed for way less money ($1.57/watt for the solar farm - the solar roadway costs $6/watt for the panels themselves, the manufacturer expect its to cost $3/watt. So you're already losing because the solar roadway panels cost nearly twice as much as a solar farm installed).
But fine, maybe you're willing to pay 3 times as much per watt (in the future). Except the power generation is about half as much for the roadway over the solar farm. And this is part of the trial run.
And we're not even going into maintenance - of which the solar far has little, while the roadway needs to be cleaned regularly to get rid of the crap traffic lays down on it
It's a solution looking for a problem - even in car-friendly US, there just aren't enough roads to justify it. In fact, it's probably cheaper to build a frame and put solar panels on that covering the roads and have the panels on top generating full power than under the roads at half or less power.
The only reason it really exists is because too many people got duped into investing into a product that is pretty much all hype and no results. Between commercial solar farms, rooftop solar and even sticking solar panels over roadways, solar panels underneath roadways are just a load of bunk. And the Colas Wattway is probably the best refinement of the technology offering the cheapest installation and lowest cost per unit, and it still costs a ton of money. (It's why they have a 1km test site versus about 50m for the others, or just a sidewalk).

Absolutely *nothing* that you go on to point out is wrong - especially, though you don't say it, that kinetic energy increases with the square of the velocity, not merely the velocity [so it takes us [much] more energy to get from 26000km/h to 27000km/h than it does to get us from say 1000kmh to 2000km/h.
Fortunately, we can offset some of that additional cost by virtue of the fact that the vehicle continues to burn fuel [and thus shed mass] at a prodigious rate throughout the launch.
What interested me was to look at something along the lines of a maglev-assisted launch from a cost-benefit perspective to see if it made realistic sense, given what we know about Musk's other businesses.
