  1. Re:If this is true on North Korea Says It Has Conducted Nuclear Test · · Score: 1

Observer, rational. Don't forget about what kind of leader they have over there, which is considered to be God basically. Historically people like that have done very very mad things, so I don't see a reason why we shouldn't consider North Korea not only capable but also willing to launch a Nuke...

Why argue that [A] or [B] is better simply because of the underlying technology? For all I know, two years from now nobody will want to touch either LCD nor Plasma... Go with whatever works, your software will still play...

  5. I am appalled on account of my countrymen! on Did Humans Evolve? No, Say Americans · · Score: 1

In Sweden apparently only roughly 80% "belive" in evolution. What the heck is next, people not beliving in relativity or gravity. Should we have a survey to see how many people belive in the number zero? Maybe atoms are just hocus pokus, and the earth is flat! Come on people, evolution isn't something you belive in or not, it just _is_. Just like any other scientific _theory_. As oppose to making things up or beliving in everything that is written down, or even worse, something written down and badly translated! Evolution is a theory, a damn fine at that, with all what that entails, and no religion can make me feel different about that, or any other scientific theory.

Since it is OSS and all I hope someone builds Real free releases as well, or if push comes to shove forks the whole thing. But Real? I think that even Microsoft would have gone down better...

What they all need is 1. to pay the stars less 2. pay MPAA nothing 3. pay the people who actually have no part in the making of the movie, well, less 4. get better stories.

It's the same reason why _really_ crappy surround sound systems sell like hotcakes, they sound like crap, but people really don't know the difference, and probably haven't really heard what a good system is suppose to sound like. It was like when I finally got a friend to come with me to a THX theater, and he finally understood why good sound and picture makes a huge difference to how much you feel like you are in the movie.

As far as music goes, when a show like "Idol" (The Swedish version) gets really popular even though the people can't sing that well, well, shows why the music industry doesn't have to care about talent...

Not to mention that everyone isn't using A-Z either. Here we got å,ä,ö as well, and some languages need even more extra keys. How about creating _one_ keyboard that works for more languages, so we don't actually have to have different keyboards depending on which, fairly similar, alphabet we use?

And a, b, c, d, e, f is just as random as q, w, e, r, t, y. What we need is an international dvorak that is optimized for a common alphabet for a large number of languages. That probably will be so incredibly good it won't sell more than 2 keyboards. After all, the dumber I find an idea, the better it sells :/

  23. Cigarettes and alcohol on Why Do Computer Games Claim Lives? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Take a look at home many gamers there are out there, then look at how many of them die from these kinds of situations. Not that terribly many, right? Now take a quick peak at two of societies most common forms of entertainment, nicotine and alcohol (for those cultures who don't subscribe to those particular poisons, I leave it up to the reader to substitute). How many people dies every year because of those two? And not just from the direct causes (alcolism / lugn cancer) but from side effects such as the users killing others.

So the point is, games are far less dangerous than alcohol and nicotine. Fix those problems first instead of whining about obvious cases of mental illness where society is unwilling to find and treat the people who are sick.

Now move along, nothing to see...

When are they going to realise that the single biggest reason why people aren't spending more money on music is the fact that a handful of music stars and music industry bosses already have taken all the money. People just don't want to spend that kind of money on music anymore, and why should they? It has never been cheaper to copy music, and in fact, that is what people are doing. They are willing to pay the hardware price, but no longer the software price.
