hey thanks for asking the question. I'm edging towards an ibook and this is just the sort of thing I've been wondering about. I don't have any moderation to give out today so just take my appreciation of a great thread you've started.:)
it always strikes me funny that everyone got in an uproar over p2p when we've been doing the same thing with usenet for ages. ok, usenet may be harder for the newbies to figure out. its not always point click simple, but when p2p is dead (not saying thats an inevitability) then folks will say "hey, geek, is there some other way for me to download britney spears?" so when are they gonna try to shutdown usenet? or irc? two things I enjoy far more than the p2p proggies.
slashdot alread does movie reviews. if they're geeky enough. if you ask me you're the one that jumped the shark. hell slashdot has jumped the shark so many times the damn shark is dead. who fucking cares? far as i can tell the entire article is worth it for the pointer to PA. (a wonderful web comic where they sell out on a daily basis and jump the shark all the damn time)
I want the boner that came up with "jumped the shark" dead.
well, I'm prepared to follow in their footsteps. peace is something worth trying for. And while the people that followed them may not be large in number they are out there living with those ideals. I can't control christians that say one thing and do another. As for tibet, time will tell. We've been using force with china for years and they're still communists. perhaps in some instances neither force nor peace will solve our problems and they will simply always be problems. force hasn't solved anything in Israel either and peace was on the road to solving the problem. I think in the end it will.
I commend you on your logic (seriously) but its been disproven before. Some folks you might want to check with on this: Christ, Ghandi, Dr. King, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the people that followed them.
As for the "punch in the face" there are even whole systems of martial art designed to combat a punch in the face that don't involve punching back.
guess I'm gonna have to start making everything by hand using materials from my backyard.
I know a great many people see this as nothing to worry about. If you're not doing anything wrong what will all this tagging and tracking really mean? But! I don't want anyone tracking shit about me. Its none of their damn business. Imagine this. when was the last time you were having a private conversation and someone was standing by staring at you? Imagine being stared at all the time by people you can't see and don't even know that they know what style of underwear you have on. All of this tagging of shit, its none of your fucking business. get out of my pants!
I've had just as avtive a life as any red blooded american and have managed ton only break a toe and slice an appendage or two. have you considered just getting a big padded suit to walk around in? maybe just live in a bubble? considering your luck the bubble would just pop and you'd start to suffocate but be rescued in the nick of time or something.
I'm getting closer and closer to just taking my system off the net. Reading slashdot, penny arcade and looking up movie showtimes is really not worth the hassle of every tom dick and harry knowing all there is to know about me. No, I don't have anything to hide. But, its my decision who I let know things about me. If that means get off the net, then fine.
Morning Edition I think it was had in interwiew with a a guy that has the most reviews on amazon. Its become his only goal in life. All he does all day is review stuff for Amazon. I think he actually said that he doesn't care if people like the reviews or find them helpful he just wants the most. There's another reviewer that's trying to get the most helpful reviews of some such thing. I'd link you the realaudio at NPR but I'm not going through all that just search NPR for "Morning Edition Amazon reviews"
its my understanding that we've been dealing with this question for ages. Scientists have been trying forever to weigh the balance between the benefits of their discoveries and the harm. Same goes for everything. There are pluses and minuses everywhere.
I never feel rushed using my 56k dial-up. It's always on mostly, persist enabled. When it goes down its down for 60 secs and then its back up. I've downloaded several ISOs using dialup over the years. no big deal. I can see where time is an issue for those folks that live in countries with whack rate plans just for local calls but in the states its no biggee to be online all day even when I'm not there.
I'm all for the little guy. Half my friends are musicians or connected to musicians etc. But, some of the stuff that is available from the little guy is the same crap available from the big guys. I listen to music based on what sounds good not the record label/garage location. And just becasue somethin is innovative does not mean its any good. And yes I have a very wide range of tastes. Everything from Pakistani Rock to Mali Pop to Mexican Rock, French Rap, Beck, Beasties Boys, Tori Amos etc... There's good and bad everywhere.
I will. Just as soon as I get myself out of debt and can use a cradit card again. In the meantime I live a cash life. This is why I miss those disposable credit cards you could get at 7-11s. Prolly won't see those again.
you nkow I can't think of any other company that has prompted so many rumours about it over the years. really what other company gets so many people chomping at the bit to know whats next?
thing thats killing me is that I might not be able to afford one of these new portables until after I move. damn I want one now.

I predict it will never happen.
is the flyer in the local paper from Best Buy and the banners at the top of slashdot and the vertical banners at penny arcade.
