  1. Re:How can I not? on Buy Second-Hand Games, Stifle Creativity? · · Score: 1

-Exactly-. This occurs simply because even the games that sell -all- their new copies often do not see reprint.

Take Disgaea. Where I live, it's now next to impossible to find a new or used one because word got around about how good it is. When there is a used one, it's $44.99. And they know they'll get it because it had such a small initial shipment and there's nothing more coming. The companies would rather develop and release the new games (La Pucelle, and yes, I realize it's not released by the same company who did Disgaea but it is developed by the same one) than produce a smaller run of the first one...and this is incredibly annoying. It also leads to a crappier selection of cheap games eventually.

No. Each map shows different things. One shows treasure, one shows enemies, and I forget what the other two are (it has been a good month since the last time I got with anyone to play this game).

And yes, I am aware of the gas. The maps aren't used to keep the players together. They're used to foster different goals.

There's a second reason why it's meant to be a GBA and not another TV - people can glance at the other TV's in the room, but if someone can only see their special map, etc, on their GBA, the other players must address that person directly and ask them what is on it. This fosters teamwork.

The workaround described on the webpage defeats that.

That's fine for you to defend it, but you're still wrong.

The pop-up was horrendous even at the time. Especially considering the end quality of the graphics - which weren't that great at all. I mean, they tried, they threw everything they had at the poor PS1, but they failed miserably at making something that LOOKED good.

Now, does it FEEL right? Absolutely.

Still, GT1 looks far better than Driver did, and yet has far less pop-up. Also, pop-up is more important in Driver, as you're never interacting with your environment in GT.

Half the people here crying out "it's about fair use!!111" probably don't use iTMS anyway. I -do-. I also recently bought an iPod. Not because I couldn't listen to the purchased songs on anything else - I owned a -cd player- before this. I just find that the iPod suits me better.

Really if you're spending that much money on iTMS, why would you buy a different player? No one's going to spend $600 on there but buy a different mp3 player for their ~20 .ogg's.

Read the article. Konami's Goo Goo Soundy did this already; frankly the feature sucks, as a game creating steps on the fly can't take into account the physical requirements of the steps. Throwing down buttons to the beat just doesn't work, especially at the higher levels of the game. Patterns and logical use of the two feet have to be considered for the steps to be doable.

"...but reveals there may not be a sequel to Amplitude, lamenting that "...in order for that to happen, we need to sell, at a minimum, hundreds of thousands of units of each title, which is not a sales level we achieved with those games."

So fucking what? Only the first two home DDRs and the first home Beatmania (both for PS1) were million sellers.

Fans of Beatmania IIDX recently had to go through an excruciating process to get a new home version released (this will be "7th Style" - 3rd through 6th Styles are already available for the Playstation 2 in Japan. In the arcades, there are 1st through 10th Styles and also Substream. 10th Style was released in Japan in February.)

    The process was this:
    - Announcement of the idea to make the game
    - Konami Japan requests 10,000 surveys about what players would and would not like in the game to be completed by a certain date. These surveys are to be filled out on their webstore (all in Japanese) with special typing requirements (presumably to lock out those in the US who aren't supposed to be able to get it anyway)
    - Confirmation of the number of surveys recieved
    - Requirement for AT LEAST 20,000 pre-orders placed online through konamistyle.com (which is to be the only way to obtain the game for those in Japan) - the deadline for this was TWO WEEKS.
    - Confirmation of the number of preorders and announcement that the game will be released in May.

The only benefits of this are that Konami now knows what we want to see in this game. Granted, it does feel that they are taking the players wishes into consideration. But requirements of this magnitude are ALMOST unheard of - Konami also started a capital fund to make Tokimeki Memorial 3 and Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side - and that worked out too.

But still, if they can make an 88-song game of a highly more complex nature than Amplitude (let's be honest, it's simpler Beatmania) on 20,000 preorders, Harmonix can do a new Amplitude on less than 100,000.

They should think about working with Konami on it - they have an enormous stockpile of their own music for the Bemani series.
