Most schools and Universities have online courses. However attending them remotely is basically the same as going to the class. You still have to watch over some kind of connection the class.
I don't think you can do it in a year though, without quitting your job, eating once a week. One problem that you might have preventing that year is taking Calc and Physics, unless you want to go the CIS route... (which is more business side, that some schools are starting to offer, (NOT MIS)) CIS is CS without the Physics and only 1 or 2 less calculus courses. It saves a lot of pain and headaches...

People want a phone number that they can call and get an answer RIGHT NOW.
I'm guessing you've never dealt with Pac Bell Tech Support (Or any tech support for that matter) before. All Tech Support that you deal with (Microsoft, HP, Sun, whoever) you first deal with lower level tech support. These are the people that first read off a checklist, that is written for the lowest common denominator in the world (themselves). Did you check the cables, did you install the software... blah blah blah.
If the first level tech support can answer your question you should have STFW anyways.
When you deal with higher in the upline than you can get some answers. But the worst thing in the world is when you already have a "case number" of some sort and have to deal with the first line of mindless grunts checklist again.
(Now I've never dealt with RH or LinuxCare, but I would hope they wouldn't have that lower level)
Okay I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for once, (fire retardant suit on!)
Yes Microsoft is an evil corporation with an evil Chief Software Architect... (I think that's what he's calling himself these days)
However the reason why programmers do not make the money you think they deserve is, comes down to a sole reason. We live in a society built on Capitalism. A society that when certain risk is applied, great returns can be recieved, just as well as failure shown by losses. (And any other color in between that spectrum.)
The reason why Microsoft had this great success (or still having) is due to the fact that people fronted money into the company and it payed out in those great returns. (i.e. Secretaries taking Stock options instead of bonuses, people investing in the Stock Market, etc... Boy what I'd do with a time machine) Those are people taking risk, or gambling with there own money. Workers (programmers) on the other hand, do not share that same risk. If they lose their job, true they do not get that paycheck anymore, but nothing else is lost other than those future wages. (which they can get back by getting another job) Taking Stock options on the other hand is a risk that they might lose, or pay off in the end.
True, Microsoft is an evil corporation, I don't like them either (Personal preference) but bashing them because a couple people are richer than others (i.e. Gates) is extremely Marxist. Bash them because they release unfinished buggy products and make you pay for updates.
If programmers want to make more money, think about starting taking a risk yourself and maybe it will pay off.
I'll just be quiet now and return to working at my underpaid job and complain about Gates ruling the world.

I wish there was a Linux client to attach to an Exchange Server (I mean can't we all just get along), that would allow me to go to a linux desktop at work, instead of dual booting to 2000.

Do you know what speaks louder than that... Go to Tuxgames, and pre-order the Linux version of RTCW. Actually it's the Win32 version bundled with a Linux Binary CD.
It's not like the majority of the population lives on top of the Himilayas. The most dense areas are obviously near the major metropolis's. Now whether or not those people can afford to own a computer or not, that's a different story. However 27 Million out of 1 Billion+ still does sound kind of low. (I guess the average rice farmer doesn't need E*trade to check his portfolio)
That's less than 5% of the population... Is that correct? Sounds like a higher percentage of people are logging on in Afghanistan with their Commodore 64s.
And you too are right, a good programmer can pick up the syntax to a different language in minimal time about an hour or less, to be somewhat effective in reading and debugging code, even writing code. (Even though some programmers don't like picking up that new language, for example me and VB)
I agree lower division CS classes focus on syntax, while the upper division classes should teach you fundamentals of thinking in algorithims and data structiures, which if you can think in legos you can build castles.

If the TV Show is well recepted, do you ever think you could get back into doing the comic, cartoon, or even doing a movie with the live-action, or cartoon?
By the way who is the genius that come up with the best battle-cry since Yo-Joe? (SPOOOOOOOOONNN!!!!!)
Actually the product is called LindowsOS which might sound even less like Microsoft Windows.

If your prayers are not answered PNP should be changed to PNLSEP:
Plug and Let Someone Else Play.
Put this in your timeline...
I wasted $200 on Linux Vaporware... The Agenda VR3 PDA Developer's edition. (Stupid Battery Guzzler)
Actually it wasn't a waste, I still love mine, but funny how it wasn't mentioned, at all in 2001.

Of course I'm kidding....
I base all my accusations after the movie "Pirates of the Silicon Valley..."
They portrayed him pretty unscrupulous, or at least I thought so.

SNK Has been gone for a little while...
But more important to Science than George Harrison, (Not that Beatlemania wasn't cool) Robert Tools, the man with the first artifical heart has passed today..
Lousy day indeed... But Cheer up cause it's Friday.
Linux is not an RTOS
Yeah, but can it be? I remember reading something about a year ago, Lineo creating a a Linux based RTOS. (small footprint)

;)
Money talks and bullshit walks.
But dropping an email would be nice too.
They are not selling a linux version by itself, but Tux Games will be selling RTCW as a Win32 Version bundled with a Linux Binary CD.
Go buy it and send a message back to ID Software...
Did they fix that Starcraft lag problem?
I guess I'll find out after work
There up to no good...
I agree with the government keeping tabs on what the people see...

Like my grand pappy use to say, if you want something done... Do it yourself.
Whenever I move, I usually take my car, and my computer comes with me in the car. In fact I put it shotgun so I know it at least has an air bag.
I mean it is companion and all, I spend more time with it than a lot of other people.
