Depends on the publisher. For instance, in music I trust Cuneiform and in books I trust Tor: odds are that a random CD/book from them would appeal to me. Which makes me more willing to take chances and find new authors. That, to me, is the role of a publisher - a consistent image/brand/quality.
Also: do you want your authors getting loans, hiring editors, finding authors, approving cover art... or do you want them Writing Books?
End of an era. I started with an Apple ][+ and am typing this on my iPad 2. These definitely been ups and downs, and I still love the old NeXTStep OS.
On the plus side, it looks like the short term (next 1-2 years) is taken care of. iPhone5-cross carrier iPad3 The new paradigm machines due out later this year (not sure what this is besides an A5 ultralight/ultra cheap) AppleTV becomes a game console.
Live well, Steve. You may have been pompous and arrogant, but you cared about the design.
This is awesome. It appears to be using similar principles and design to Tesla's turbine! (From wikipedia, which doesn't have a good picture of the innards) "The Tesla turbine is a bladeless centripetal flow turbine patented by Nikola Tesla in 1913. It is referred to as a bladeless turbine because it uses the boundary layer effect and not a fluid impinging upon the blades as in a conventional turbine"
We started going more exotic places. Places that don't have cell signal or internet access. If they want to call a boat to the tune of $5-$10 a minute they're welcome to.
Yes, but the big deal is a la carte pricing - instead of paying for channels you don't want, you might just buy the ones you're interested in - which the cable companies have said repeatedly is impossible.
The biggest problem with the BBCA is that they HAVE plenty of British shows, even Genre show, that are worth airing in place of ST:TNG and the like. Jeckyll, Strange, Ultraviolet, Outcasts, etc, etc. Not to mention all the non-genre programming. Yes, fine - skip the soaps. But what about stuff like Newswatch, 10 O'Clock Live, etc?
And hey, Primeval is pretty bad, but I like Being Human. And it's scads better than the US version.
Only if you didn't have a brain and chose not to hear everyone predicting an April release date, back in December. In other news, Apple goons come and take your iPad away, break it in half, then steal your credit card and buying an iPad2.
From a monetary perspective it makes sense, but they did it wrong. They should have given a free month access (5gb limit), and once you hit 2gb or 25 days, bring up a window that says "hey, I see you're using the 3g access. Simply input your credit card for the low low price of X".
I see why they're doing it - Dick & Jane may find lots of cool uses for it that they wouldn't have thought of, if they had 3g. Now every customer becomes a potential subscriber as well. We'll see how it plays out.
Funny - not knowing what it was supposed to be, I played around until I could do it reliably. Based off that I thought it was a two-finger hold-then-swipe.
Please mod parent (anon coward) up. End users shouldn't need to know the back end crap. If you want to roll your own kernel on your TV, go right ahead - but god forbid your neighbor should just watch TV?
I read another article on this. To make sure the gene mutation took, they tied it to another one that makes the silkworms themselves glow when hit with a black light, and their eyes glow red. At least there's a reason these mutants have glowing red eyes!
3D TV will not take off until people don't need special glasses. Otherwise it'll be a niche for watching the occasional movie. Fortunately there are several that are no-glasses - here's hoping they're not 5-years away, like all cool tech seems to be.
Coming to the app store soon for $10, looks like.

I still don't visit their site if I can help it. Guilty or not, they're still scumbags. Everyone still remember that they released the
It's already 102 outside, and pushing it down to 40-50 would be a definite improvement. Wait, what's that C mean?

Because of the new comments method, I (ironically in this case) can't view any on my bberry.
They addressed this already:

I know you are but what am I?
Because you are not everyone. Everyone, conversely, does not act in exact concordance with your behavior.

There are several to be had on amazon. Depending on the stylus and software, it's pretty close to using a regular pencil on paper.

How's that a troll? Usually the agreement is for the lawyer to get a healthy cut on a spec case, since the only payment they get is if they win.
