I have two children. One 6 and one 2. I have seen no real difference in my life as a programmer with or without kids.
I still go to work at the same time and come home at the same time. I work about 9 hours a day and then it's home to play with the kids.
Lately I have been on a hard project, but it's not required for me to stay and work extra hours. I have done it because if not, my boss would have been here for many more hours (2 can get the job done twice as fast).
But, I still make it to my oldest little league games at 5:30pm. Guarenteed, I'm there around 6pm, but I still make it. I have my weekends off to play with the kids also.
I guess it boils down to your job. Do you work a crap load of hours? If yes, then you will have issues. If no, than I doubt that your programming life will change.
Now, the personal projects that I work on have suffered because I don't have the free time like I used to have after work. I prefer to be playing with my boys than working on the computer anyway.;)
This is taking forever, the longer SCO drags this out, the more companies will be afraid of using Linux.
Isn't this SCO and their funders primary goal?

If you truely believe "should be hung by the nads until dead", why don't you post with your username? I just find it funny that you make your comment yet hide behind Anonymous Coward user profile. Are you afraid he will get your email address and add you to his list?
1) How you describe video games as beeing the same can also be applied to movies. The same "stories" are done over and over. The characters, places,... are all that changes. Will the movie industry ever be complete wiped out?
2) If all the games go massive multiplayer, won't those themes also be come standard and people will complain about seeing the new games all before, just with different places, guns, bikinis?
This isn't meant to be a troll post, but hasn't every generation said this about the newest generation? I remember my parents being concerned at the violence in the video games I was playign in the early 80's.
My parents told me stories when their parents were concerned about the music that they were listening to.
I'm not a fan of GTA, nor any of the games that are similar. I'm not tring to defend GTA. I just think that we are too quick to say that it is because of the video games in our childrens lives that cause them to became so desensitized to the world.
Jonathan Schwartz came to the Utah Java Users Group in January (We got him out here with free tickets to the Sundance Film Festival.). He asked if people felt that Java should be open sourced. About half the audience raised their hands, myself included.
He said that it wouldn't happen because Sun didn't want to see multiple versions of Java out there. If MS went and changed some things in Sun's Java and then started to bundle their version of Java with Windows, who knows what will happen.
We will start to see different versions of Java. People will start to think that the MS version of Java is the actual "real" Java and get mad when someone writes a Java program using Sun's version of Java.
Then, MS will be able to start to dictate what goes in Java, or they will just stop following Sun's vison of Java and go on their own merry way.
He gave more reasons and it convinced me that it really wasn't that great of an idea to open source Java.
I have seen people in public that have a jack behind their ears that connects to hearing device. Here is a link with info.
Isn't this being 'jacked in'?
A Nucleus cochlear implant changes sound into electrical impulses and uses these electrical impulses to stimulate the hearing nerve, which can be interpreted by the brain as sound.
Isn't this what this article is talking about? The only thing I can see that is different with this Slashdot article is that the info coming from the nerves can be sent to a computer. I'm sure these ear implants can do that also, but the need isn't there.
I have no idea if this would really matter or not, but I look at the headers of the spam I get and the majority are from free email accounts; Yahoo, Hotmail,...
If there were no free email accounts, wouldn't it be harder for spammers to find the accounts to send out the inital emails? Yes, there would still be many mail servers out there to reroute the emails.
But, wouldn't this make it so that the spammers have to get actually ISP accounts to get the email addresses?
I don't know how true this all would be. Just thinking out loud as part of the/. collective.
Where do people go to get support for Linux? The user forums? Those are all populated with two types of people: the newbies trying to get help, and the uber-geeks that look down at the newbs and loose interest half way through a fix to a problem.
How can people find out what is installed and where is it on their computer? There are ways to do this, but no one has made it easy.
What about uninstalling those programs?
Until the ease of use issue is dealt with, Linux won't rule the desktop.
I bet the button pushers job title is "Mass Population Control Specialist" /DNRTA
My sister-in-law made me so angry one day that I told her every piece of code that I write will have "Missy is a jerk" somewhere in it.
Don't remember what it was that she did, but I've held true to that promise for 12 years.
Google? What is that? I searched my harddrive for it and found nothing on it? Hmm... Maybe it's out there on that intarweb thing?
Had a summer school camp that taught this.
No no no. The prior art that you list is the opposite of what they are striving for.
They want a hat that helps you regain your senses. The prior art you list is a hat that helps you LOSE your senses.
They took the action figures out of their original packaging!?!?!?!
Actually, GQM is a magazine for retailers to show their customers. It is a catalog of games that are out or coming out.
So, you won't find a bad review in the magazine. But, you flip through it and look at the new product pictures and order that way.

Just my thoughts. Flame suit is on.
As for dog related, the lamest thing I have ever heard was that Pres. dog, Spot's favorite "Color if she could see colors" would be blue

So, what if they change their pricing plans...
"For a donation to the church of $19.95 we will refill your printer cartriges for free."
Then, you can write off the donation!
How come the rating system is E, Y, M, AO or instead of G, PG, PG-13, R? (I would assume that it has something to do with the MPOAA not allowing it.)
Seems to me that it would be easier to identify what games are appropriate for what age group.

Oops, thought this was a poll.
Well, here comes a larger flood to test your server!
You can still find FS2 for sale at Target in the US. $10 plus it came with the expansion CD.

The arguments the "industry" keeps posing are like blaming the people who make ballpoint pens for ransom notes....
Well, we sue gun makers for crimes now in the US. Why would this be any different?

I'm still too excited about that to comment on anything right now.
I seriously doubt that MS would allow people, for any reason, to have access to their source code.
;)
If anyone could just pay for the code, the code would have already been reviewed by groups trying to discredit MS.
Plus, the code would have been leaked somehow and be all over the internet already.
But, I could very well be wrong on this issue. I have been wrong before.
