All it takes is brilliant writing and any show can be made into a movie. Conversely, bad writing can make the best show into a piece of crap movie.

All lost CD sales are caused by the consumer getting the music elsewhere.

This is pure bullshit. How did they initially combat filesharing? They raised prices. I have never illegally downloaded a single file--instead I've simply gone without.

I went into Borders to pick up a Linkin Park CD. They wanted $20. I walked back out. I did not go back to my computer to download the songs. I've simply lived without them. I'd like to own the CD, but give me a fucking break. $20? Universal's price drop is a good sign. Maybe they'll be able to earn me back as a customer.

There's a difference between designed rolling blackouts and catastrophic cascade events that cause blackouts (California had one of these as well, years before the rolling blackouts). Neither is directly caused by deregulation.

The rolling blackouts were caused by energy companies gaming the market and withholding power in order to drive up prices. Cascade events are purely accidental and difficult to predict due to the complexity of the grid. It's like a butterfly causing a hurricane on the other side of the world, or something like that.

  15. You missed the most evil part on EU Says Microsoft's Abuses Are Ongoing · · Score: 1

I make all my money from selling these TV's so I give away a VCR with each TV purchase. I am losing money on the development and distribution of those VCR's, however, I just pass along that expense to my TV division and all is well. I just killed off the competition and have full control over the market.

Now imagine that your VCRs use a proprietary format, and don't play standard tapes. However, because 95% of households bought your TVs and got your VCRs for free, they all use your tapes. Now if Sony's movie division wants to release a movie on your tape format, they have to pay you a licensing fee. And they will, because of your monopoly. They don't have any (realistic) choice. The same goes for everyone who wants to release a tape on your format.

It's amazing how little understanding you have for what Java is. Have you ever heard the phrase "write once run anywhere"? Why the fsck are you using Java if you're only writing for one platform anyway?

What they did do was to put MS-specific extensions into their Java implementation, such as J/Direct. That meant that you could end up writing Java code that didn't run on any JVM. So what?
