Stop with the "$75k isn't enough to live on in NYC, LA, etc." We all know people in those cities aren't happy anyway, so I'm sure they were left out of the data set.

I used this WorldsChat thing back in 1999 when I got on the interwebs for the first time. It looked exactly as it does in the patent filing, penguins and all. Oh those were the days. Also, Meridian 59 was a 3D MMORPG that existed at that same time if not before.

Yes, prior art certainly exists and I'm glad it's going to be so easy to find but I did have a tinge of nostalgia creep up when I saw those drawings.

Do they also have a part in the scenario where the kids have to sign their souls away to the recording industry to get publicity for their album? Perhaps this little exercise needs to be a little more in depth than the simple trick question they currently have posed.

What you all seem to be missing is the fact that this game was being developed as some what of tribute to a game we all love and to see if such a game could be developed under the open source model. Much like FreeCiv, this is a similarly named project simply because it is intended to immitate the orginial. Now, whether or not this violates trademark is not for me to say but I will say that this is a great way to alienate some gamers out there. Way to go Vivendi Universal, you sure do know how to call your customers theives.

  24. The Real Deal on The Golden Age of Cup Manufacturing · · Score: 1

The purpose of humongous drink cups is to provide an illusion of increased value. You can't tell me that 44 oz. of Coca-Cola is really worth the $1.79 they sell it for. Including the cost of the cup, it couldn't possible cost more than a couple of cents. But the consumer sees that he is getting SO MUCH MORE soda so he doesn't realize that he'll never be able to drink that much. Thats why the value meals come with the bigger drinks...so if you eat at the resturant, you don't go back for refills and you end up paying more for less. But, even if you do get the smallest size, they're still getting huge margins on each drink so they don't really care (and thus give you free refills). It basically boils down to them selling you what amounts to (the size of) 2 drinks in 1 cup, both of which you'll pay for, and one of which you'll actually be able to consume.

Noooooooooo! How are we supposed to afford this!! and what about books you may want to keep?? Frankly, I like having a Calculus and Differential Equations reference to take with me after I leave skool, just in case I ever need to use them. And I don't want to carry a laptop with me everywhere I go in order to study! One of the best ways to get cramming done is to lay out in the grass on a sunny day and read away! I want my paper back!
