This might not be entirely true. I once read an article about airplane design. The workstations becoming faster meant that designers could make changes to designs and see the results much faster. Research showed that the designers would consider more options because of this and ended up with better average end results.
I think you're reading it the wrong way. Potential customers might be scared off by the risk of SCO going after them. This is to send their linux customers a message: "go ahead invest in linux, we'll take care of this SCO cr*p for you"
Well, you make some valid points. I didn't know about an open source alternative for the drivers.
The main problem I still see is that you need to draw a line somewhere and allow closed source drivers or else you impose a limit on what Linux user can do. That is the ultimate consequence of what you're saying. Nvidia cards are mainstream and someone is bound to create an open source driver for them if nvidia refuses to. But if you use hardware that isn't mainstream and are incapable of developing your own driver, are closed source drivers still a bad idea? Or should people who can't write their own drivers stick to Windows? I am just curious, how far do you want to take this?
So you would rather have nvidia making no drivers at all for Linux? In an ideal world I might agree with you, but in the real world I suspect most Linux users would rather have support for their video card.
A doctor friend of mine complained to me once that everybody who knew he was a doctor always felt that they should describe their ailments to him and then ask for his opinion. About two minutes after he told me this he started "You know, my pc has been acting so weird lately..."
Fortunately he's an intelligent fellow and we had a good laugh about it after I explained to him that he was doing the same.
The funniest thing that happened when I clicked that link was that I got a popup saying I was the 50000000 th visitor and that that had won me a prize. I thought this was supposed to be a new domain ? 49999999 previous visitors sounds more like a "used" domain.
We have made a rule for people leaving their phones on their desk:
If it rings we hide it:-)
Good places to hide it: - tape it under the desk, you'd be amazed how long it takes ppl to find it there - put it inside their computercase (the shielding might make locating it a bit of a hassle;-) ) - in some places you can easily lift the ceiling tiles - bring a screwdriver ; be creative:-)
Be a good sport and leave it turned on, most ppl's directional hearing isn't as great as you would expect, and watching ppl look for their ringing phone is great entertainment.
They showed this on one of BBC's car programs. Looked pretty cool, all the technology to drive, steer break and whatever was contained in a unit about wheel-high and you could exchange everything above that in one go. So you could turn it from an MPV to a convertible in one short visit to the workshop.
Eehm I don't know what Holland you live in but having been exposed to banking all around the world I am grateful that I live in Holland. I can transfer money now from my account to yours (or anyone else in Holland) within a few hours at no cost (or instantly for a small fee) with only a name, a number and a few clicks. If you think this works in the same painless way in other countries I would suggest living abroad for a while. I don't think you would ever complain about Dutch banks again.
Oh and by the way we don't have number portability between wired and cell phones, just between cell phone providers (that's what the article is about)
If your kit has floppies in it (it usually will) BRING MORE THAN ONE COPY ! (or bring a cd with a copy on it). Floppies always break when there is no easy way to get a replacement.
I just started reading Asimov's autobiography and in it he comments on Heinleins political views. He explains that Heinlein turned from left to right in a very short time, at just about the time he traded in his left wing partner for a very conservative one. Asimov goes on to make some snide comments about this. So Heinlein was pretty left wing in his younger years and very conservative later on. (Something not uncommon in left wing ppl becoming succesful)
I just figured out why it's called a pickup truck....nevermind

This is some seriously deranged logic. This is how your post reads to me:
I make a video card which I expect to be used with Windows. Some of my users beg me to support Linux. I make a Linux driver. Now I'm a parasite?
An open sourced driver would be nice but not supplying one is now a crime? What am I missing here?
So you would rather have nvidia making no drivers at all for Linux? In an ideal world I might agree with you, but in the real world I suspect most Linux users would rather have support for their video card.

Undercover spammer eh ?
Since we're going offtopic anyway, when you read the ad on eBay:
> Software drivers for any O/S.
Yeah right, this increases their credibility enormously.
This could give a new boost to all the data copying / xeroxing jokes as well.....

More than a few people have problems hurling into a toilet, which is generally just about right in front of them.
If I had a 1 euro note I would sell it to the highest bidder.
This is mainly because the smallest bills we have are 5 euros.
Man where are my mod points when i need them ? This picture is FUNNY :-)
I'd be happy with a Radeon 9800 for my workstation and some headphones.
Rhubarb ? Nah....
:-)
Hold a chicken in the air was my favorite
Logically they can be better at english and still do better than males in math class. So "Females are better at English than math" can still be true.
Eehm I think you lost the crowd here right about where you said Imagine if you met a girl

I think it's fascinating that you manage to read "girlfriends" where the man clearly states "girlfriend". Freudian typo...
True, minesweeper doesn't crash bad enough to warrant a reboot. Serious apps sometimes do though
