  1. Re:Blackbox on E17, Slimmed Down For Cell Phones · · Score: 1

Blackbox seems to be using all of 4MBs of RAM here, and next to no CPU time. With a 3MB binary, that's not surprising.

That's pretty big for blackbox. Mine's only 380 Kb.

  3. a bunch of questions on C# In-Depth · · Score: 5, Insightful

Could it be that C# is one of the most widely used simply because of the installed base of windoze machines all over the world and not because of any technical merit? Most current languages have compilers and interpreters that run on windoze; what makes people choose C# over the others? Just how much impact has C# had on computing sciences as a whole, anyway?

For making the 4th (3rd if you don't count Fallout Tactics: BOS) installment in one of my favorite game series completely unplayable on my box! Seriously i know Bethesda makes good games (Elder Scrolls), but they just had to go and make Fallout 3 into an FPS. A huge hog of an FPS, i would add.

There's nothing to it, actually. Linux has replaced windoze for me for ten years now. The only purpose my hidden windoze setup serves is for playing games and it's even rare for me to find time for that nowadays. Install linux and read, read, read, and practice, practice, practice.

Linux suppot for dialup is next to nil. Yes it's because of those winmodems, but you'd think a couple of the common chipsets would be reverse engineered or something could be done like ndiswrapper.

I mention this cause I have a friend who got a machine with vista and it runs fairly slow, I was going to set him up with linux, but realized he uses a winmodem for dialup. So that blew that idea.

Excuse me? For almost 8 years i had dialup and used Linux exclusively on my machine. Get a hardware modem that connects via serial port and put the winmodem where it belongs - in the trash.
