If the only experience with HDR you have is screenshots then you have no ground to stand on. Its one of those things that looks so much better in motion.

Doesn't mean jack. The current HD feeds we get over sat and cable and ota are highly compressed hd-lite anyways. How about we convince the carriers to stop overcompressing the signal and then we'll talk about the next gen of hdtv.
If the only thing you have to say about HL2 is that it has steam then you are missing the point and you might as well admit that you don't like these types of games to start with. There is NOTHING wrong with steam as a distribution device. I've never had it not work and I don't know a single person that has had a problem with it. The majority of the problems come from people trying to pirate the game or they are running some extremely wierd or overclocked setup. 99% of the time its a defective end user error.
This is the problem with faceless GM's in games like this. They don't really have to answer to anyone and they've made the system in such a way that appeals aren't possible. If a GM is having a bad day they can take it out on any player they want without warning and the player is helpless to prevent it.
The majority of GM's on these games take the power and run with it, they accept no responsibility when they are wrong and slap people around whenever they feel like it. It is a big problem and eventually it will catch up with one of these games.
What are the capabilities of it? Does it support menu and dvd navigation from ripped dvd's? Can it play ISO images of dvd's stored on an external drive? Is it the first part of a mac based dvd jukebox device?
1080i instead of 480p and lossless sound codecs are MAJOR reasons to upgrade.
What were the reasons to switch from VHS to DVD? Most people only had normal tv's and progressive players weren't around then. The only reason back then was no wear and tear on the media, digital (no rewinding etc) and multichannel sound. I'd say the reasons this time are way better than last time.

1x, 2x, 3x, is completely irrelevent. What matters is the thoroughput. Wasn't a 1x cd player only like 150k/sec, but a 1x dvd player was 1.38MB/sec. Of course with the dvd you are transfering more data from a bigger pool. PC dvd players transfer data at faster speeds, but play movies at 1x speed. It all depends upon how its used.
Why do news organizations continue to give the RIAA (and MPAA) air time? We all know they are smoking crack and yet the news folks continue to spread the 2nd hand smoke around like its still in style. No way. I don't want to actually have to work at controlling games I play. The whole sense your movement thing for controlling games may work out for really neat demos, but when it comes to actually using it it ends up being a pain in the ass. And whoever thought that attaching a 2nd device for the other hand was a good idea should be shot. The technology behind it might be impressive but useability is tossed out the window. There are some things you just don't radically change. This is one of them.

People (aka parents and kids) are going to see this thing in stores and immediately say no without trying it and go to the next aisles with the xbox 360 and PS3 in them. They thought they didn't sell a lot of gamecubes? Well the numbers for this thing will be even lower. I want the nintendo of the old days back not this new crazy nintendo.
I hit 60 a long time ago but you know what I did? Rolled a completely different character. Take a different path in doing the quests. Now I have a level 60 paladin and a 55 priest and a 22 mage. I haven't even tried the other classes yet nor have I tried the horde side. There is still a ton to do in the game after you hit 60.
I assume by your statements that you've never actually seen a movie in HD or a tv show in HD? How about a normal dvd on a good upconverting dvd player in 1080i on a hdtv? Cause if you actually had seen any of those you would realize how wrong your opinions are.

If Blue Ray requires the device to be connected to the internet then that will spell the death of it before it even is sold anywhere. Same thing for HD-DVD. People will not want or be able to run internet connections to their tv area just to be able to play hidef dvd's. If people have to do anything more than plug it into the wall for power and plug the player into the tv and/or receiver then it won't sell.

Make sure your settings have HDR on everything instead of just bloom.
Also make sure you shoot out the windows in the church at the end, really cool effect from those.
