No. I don't think so. The current distrbution model is working just fine. Ad-revenues are good, and there are simply so many online sources of news (NYT, CBC, BBC, Washington Post, etc. etc.) that if one paper goes to a pay model, then boom - they just loose their market share. They could all get together, but that would be monopoly and illegal.
That hasn't stopped monopolies from forming. My understanding, is that they see the government fines as a cost of doing business.
Our current calendar tackles this challenge by instituting "leap years" every four years. Henry thinks he has found a better solution: drop leap year entirely and institute, instead, a one-week "mini-month" between June and July every five or six years.
I don't know about anyone else, but it doesn't sound any better than the leap year solution.
I think of Jurassic Park where the little girl is staring at the computer with some 3D file system view and says, "This is a UNIX system, I know this" and I realize that most shows are not very accurate. I imagine CSI's view of forensics is about as accurate as Jurassic Park's snapshot of UNIX. But it is entertaining anyway.
That however was indeed a Unix system, running SGI's 3d File viewer called FSN
...To me, the special edition ones are the films I wanted to make...
Later in the same interview question: ...most artists, most painters, even composers would want to come back and redo their work now. They've got a new perspective on it...
Bingo, Mr Lucas! Well said! A new perspective. This means, that the special edition SW triology are not the films you had originally invisioned. I have no doubt that Lucas felt he was not done with the films at the time that they originally released, but I do doubt that the special edition is what we had in mind.
Time changes people. For example, several years ago when the MMORPG market was small, I thought about putting together a review site specifically geared towards those type of games (there was no review site of it's kind at the time.) A new MMORPG had come out at the time, when I had this thought, and I played it and began writing a review. The review was harsh, straight to the point, and insightful at all the same time. I'm surprise to this day that I was able to write in such style. I never did put together a site, but whenever I think of doing it, I try to write in the same informative and critical style that I used back a few years ago and I simply can't. My perspective has changed. I'm now more informed about what it takes to develop these type of games. I work as a programmer for a living. I sympathize with what other coders working for a living have to put up with at their jobs. I realize that my perspective has changed and thus I can not produce the type of review style, a reader would want to read.
Lucas' perspective has also changed. As much as he denies the films not having been complete, changes like Greedo shooting first was not part of his original idea.
The Palace did this back in 1994. They key difference between The Palace and this new IMVU, is that The Palace uses 2D avatars, where as IMVU brings in 3D.
The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor
Personally, I still have the recordings from when they use to be played in the Disney channel. I love to watch those movies as a kid. I'm scared to find out what I may think of them today, were I was to watch them again:)
For a millisecond, I thought I was looking at a picture of an inhabitable world. That's one misleading photo, imho... Not to mention, heavily pixilated.
Planets are not the only celestial bodies that can be inhabitable. After all, a moon is simply a "planet" that orbits another planet. Having read the article, they spoke about clouds of gas on Titan, suggesting to me that there is some sort of atmosphere. The article did not mention however what the size and gravity is for that moon, does anyone here know?
I know, all of us here in Slashdot, would find it difficult to believe, but the majority of people who buys games, are playing them off-line. Blizzard for example, who sells millions of units per game, has stated repeatly that only a small fraction of it's player base ever goes online with their games. Although that fraction turns out to be a couple of hundred-thousand players, it's still a small portion of the over-all pie.
With the recent series of MMORPG cancellations, like Ultima X: Odyssey, Warhammer Online, Mythica, and several others, it is no secret that companies are re-evaluating what kind of profit an online game can generate. It is not the easy cash cow that developement houses came to believe it to be.
I use to subscribe to a few PC magazines, but with the advent of the Internet and e-business, I saw no reason to continue my magazine subscription. With Internet news, I get instant information of things changing in the world and in most cases the information is free. Why pay for a magazine that will arrive with the same information, a month late?
When a single 6800 card requires a 480watt power supply and two dedicated power lines, what would the power requirements be for two of these cards in the same computer system?
The software can be downloaded on the SimIndiana site, but requires Windows, and registration on the site, to use it. The program also provides an email address and remote storage on SimIndiana servers.
Ah, but the real question is must you be in Indiana in order to use it?:)
- GMail isn't even out
- GMail was announce just a bit under two months ago
So the questions are... what if GMail never comes to be, then what of the bill? A waste of time? Who asked for this bill? How is it they moved so quickly on this, isn't congress generally slow?
Sounds like someone has some heavy investments in Goggle's competition, for a bill to be passed on a single company's product that doesn't even exist yet.
Computer games in 2034 are likely to offer simulated worlds and interactive storytelling that's more engaging than linear presentations such as those in most movies today

The craft will launch vertically, like the classic rocket ship of science-fiction movies, and will land vertically as well.
So do non-fiction rockets. Something tells me the author of the article may not realize this.
CommanderTaco should be hearing a knock at his door a few moments from now.

The key word been some. Expect the following precious gem to be released:

A comet would have practically zero gravity
As game devices, cellphones leave something to be desired.
I completely agree! Not to mention that as cellphones, portable game devices leave much to be desired too!
...the more room I have for storing pr0n of course!
So what is new for those of us who don't care about a theme change?
I can't resist that first whiff of packed shit from my wang as I finish pounding Michael Sims in the ass.

Ya, they are called MMORPGs
