    Not necessarily. Some of your recommendations can introduce issues of their own. Depending on a person's requirements, location, or income, they might not be feasible choices at all.

    That's always been the case, and always will be. Utopia's not an option. By and large, the market produces more and better options and reacts more quickly to consumer demands than the government.

    That would be tantamount to suicide for many.

    Aren't you taking your chances either way? If so, don't complain about drug side-effects.

    Or buy from a company that doesn't do those things. There are plenty of organic food sellers out there.

    Or do your research and buy a car that doesn't fail at 150,000 Km.

    "You should start your own pharmaceutical company if you don't like drugs with undisclosed side effects."

    Or you could just not take the drugs.

    Or use alternative energy sources like wind & solar.

    "You should write your own mobile and desktop OS if you don't like what's on the market today."

    Or use a flip phone, or don't have a phone.

    Any of these suggestions will yield better results than having the government interfere & probably end up making things worse. I realize though it's easier for some people to get someone else to force others to do what they want.

    buy a google self driving car vs an apple one as the apple one will go EOL and stop getting software updates after only 2-3 years with an $5000+labor and shop fees cpu upgrade needed to keep it on the road.

    Mac OS High Sierra is supported on Macs from 2009. Your argument is invalid.

    which is probably not representative, paper jams persist because my employer buys the cheapest paper they can find. The kind that clumps and sticks to itself, that sheds paper dust like it's snowing, that has uneven edges, etc.

    In a former life, I was a "key-operator" at a local Kinko's. Paper quality is just one of several factors. There's also the way you load it into the printer. Paper has a natural curl from being cut from rolls. IIRC, the curl is downward, so if you load paper from a ream, make sure to put the paper in the same orientation you got it out of the ream. Don't flip it. Then there's also humidity. It's a huge culprit. If it's too low, the sheets will cling together due to static electricity. If it's too high, the sheets will cling together because they're damp.Other reasons that exist are dirty fusers, worn or dirty rollers, bad toner cartridges, etc.

    I love asparagus.PictSweet Steamables are one of my go-to veggies for the week. It's still nice & firm after it's been microwaved. The only thing I don't like about it is the nasty side effect.

    The problem with the "male abortion" is that it give the man a very easy way out of their responsibilities. It's generally recognized that for most woman an abortion is no small matter or easy decision, but it's considerably easier for the man to just sign the paper and leave the mother to figure out what she is going to do.

    Legally, a man can't stop a woman from having an abortion, and he can't force her to have one either. If women get a choice, then so should men. Your perception about the difficulty of those decisions shouldn't have any bearing.

    Would you advocate giving men rights over the unborn child, and if so what rights and how would they be balanced against the rights of the mother to control her body?

    How about if women are able to unilaterally decide to abort their unborn children, men can unilaterally decide to cede their paternity & be off the hook for child support?

    It is harder to trick college educated people into believing false statements.

    Aside from the indoctrination they've already received in college.

    The liberals on the other hand are led by college educated people that disbelieve and fight against the fake news.

    Unless it comes from the mainstream media. There are bountiful examples.

    I don't like Trump, and I didn't vote for Trump but the way the mainstream media is covering him shows a complete lack of journalistic integrity. If what is being done to Trump with the whole Russia investigation was initiated under a Republican administration to support a Republican presidential candidate and the Democrat won, the mainstream media would be calling for heads to roll. Instead, they're calling the whole thing a "nothingburger".

    There's an iOS device emulator included with XCode.

    I'm curious though how well they will translate though? Last time I used the emulator (haven't done iOS development in a while), and while you could do quite a bit of testing, there was a lot you can't do. How do you handle some unique inputs such as screen tilt or multi-touch gestures? I imagine that they'd want them to run full screen too, which you can't do with the emulator either last time I checked.

    If we shift to a society driven by anti-intellectualism and xenophobia, we can expect the world to pass us by and our prestige and leadership to fade away. Having brilliant people come to our universities then go home immediately after graduate school is not going to bring innovation to our nation.

    Trump wants to move to a merit-based immigration system, which will allow us to prioritize those brilliant people as opposed to low-skilled/non-skilled laborers the left seems to favor. It is anti-intellectual to claim that a merit-based immigration system is xenophobic.

    You seem to have a much different definition of A.I. than most people do. ATMs and Vending Machines don't do any problem solving.The follow instructions based on inputs, but do not derive their own conclusions about those inputs. Vending machines used to be completely mechanical. Adding a computer to keep track of supply & make change doesn't make them intelligent.

  14. AI will also be coming for our jobs too. In fact, AI is already here and is eliminating entire categories of jobs "AI" is things like Siri, playing Go and Chess and deep learning neural networks (like artificial human brains).

    I had a friend with a good paying Chess job that he just lost it to an A.I!

    I am thinking automation is things like kiosks at McDonalds and stuff like that. I guess that could be considered AI too though!

    Only if you consider ATMs or vending machines to be A.I.

  15. "Free"? Only if you don't count the cost of the fuel you'll burn reducing the sap down to syrup or assign any value to your time. There also is the cost of the taps, buckets, and other gear in the process which aren't expensive but not free either. The process of making the syrup from sap takes many many hours. It takes about 40 parts sap to make 1 part syrup. I suppose you could do it over a wood fire outdoors but that's harder to control and you still need a large supply of wood.

    He's retired, he's had the gear for years, and he's got tons of wood from dead-falls.

    And how long will it take for those Maples to grow in Northern Ontario? Is the soil suitable? Here, maples prefer rich bottom land soil.

    They grow fine in the U.P. of Michigan, northern Ontario shouldn't have any problems. And hey, guess what? They didn't get that name because there aren't any maples in Ontario. ;-)

  19. A lot less calories and I like the taste better. It's a pain to find the ones that are more fruit than cane sugar though.

    To each their own, but there's nothing quite like fresh maple syrup. My dad has several trees up on the farm that he taps to make his own. If you have time & patience, it's free, and you know there's no cane sugar in it. ;-)

    They'll have more money now, but so does Tesla, Google & Facebook. Since this is the case, they have to do something to compete in the market for labor. Keeping employees is important when businesses are going to be hiring.

    I believe these false alerts are deliberate, and are being used to see what happens when people think there's an attack.

    I've heard a few conspiracies, including that the Hawaii debacle was done on purpose to make Trump look bad. However, since we shouldn't be quick to attribute malice to what can be explained by incompetence, it's easy enough for me to believe a government worker screwed up.

    These false alerts also act to discredit the real alerts, if God forbid one ever comes. The whole thing is deeply disconcerting, and I hope a patriotic leaker comes forward with the real story to Wikileaks.

    I could see your point if this happened a few times, but I think having it happen once is a good thing. The vast majority of Hawaiians probably had no idea what to do in this case. You could see it in all of the YouTube videos posted out there. I'm sure a lot of them have now taken stock in where they will go & what they should do if the real thing happens, which they hadn't considered before.

    Obviously, the US still has a very spotted history in terms of its treatment of native peoples.

    Nobody's hands are clean, nearly every nation has committed atrocities to other populations. This doesn't excuse what was done in the past, I simply point it out because some people are of the opinion that the U.S. is unique in this regard.

    This is the stupidest thing I've ever read. You're suggesting people ought to vote on things not because of the merits of what they're voting on but out of vindictive spite. And you wonder why there is so much vitriol in politics. Your mindset is part of the problem.

    Isn't that exactly what McCain did in the Obamacare "repeal" vote? He dramatically flew back in to Washington and cast a no vote to kill the measure, after saying that he would support it. Allegedly after that, he told Chuck Schumer "Let's see Donald Trump make America great again now."
