I believe the "community" distro will be like debian "unstable" and the "official" will be like "stable". Also a new release does not mean that older distro's get support cut off necessarily.

    Predicting the future?

There will be more machines with linux installed and I'm 100% sure there will be more exploits found but I don't believe that with increased usability comes more security holes.

My grandma and my mom both run mandrake 9.1 (mostly because of the solitaire/tetris etc.. games included in KDE/GNOME) and they'd never once been infected by a virus or even had a crash. My mom was previously running mandrake 8.2 and updated to 9.1 HERSELF, just by popping in the cd's and rebooting like it said on the box.

Linux is NOT 100% secure and probably never will be (nothing is 100%) but to say it will turn into windows as more people use it is baseless and untrue.

Use windows. Debian will not do everything you want and the kitchen sink out of the box. It requires patience and configuration and reading. If you wanted easy and to have it "just work" get a mac or a windows machine or better yet use one of the other hand holding distro's out there. Debian is NOT redhat and I have no idea how you got the idea that they were in any way similar.

what the hell is wrong with playing on the computer? Where should we be? At the Mall? I'm 21 and i almost never leave my computer(s), I read books on here, i play games, watch movies, and learn. I for one am sick and tired of people labeling me as a lazy ass bastard because i spend a shitload of my time on computers. I'm 100% totally addicted to computers and computer games and what exzactly is wrong with my life? "If anyone else than me has gaming fucking up their life, I suggest they do the same. It might seem too radical, but you don't need that PC, no matter how big a geek you are (and I doubt you're a bigger geek than me), unless you're choosing a career down the road." Gaming does not fuck up your life, if you have a job and pay for things yourself and have friends(online COUNTS) then why the hell should you have to give up something you like to do? That's total bullshit, I think you need to stop listening to all the "being a geek is a waste of your life" people and do what you like to do.
