  1. Re:My.mp3.com? on Oboe Offers Portable Playlist · · Score: 1

this mp3tunes.com is brought to you by the same people that were behind mp3.com...which means someday they will sell out to a huge corporate conglomorate, and the website along with your music will just disappear without warning. Sounds great. Sign me up.
But seriously, until I can get it in my car...you can't say "anywhere".

  5. The dot com bubble taught us one thing ... on MySpace Users Revolt Against Murdoch · · Score: 4, Insightful

If the dot com bubble taught us anything, it's that "If it's free on the internet, it's unreliable and fully controlled by somebody who will run it into the ground". I'm costantly telling that to bands who rely on Myspace as their primary website. Very soon, Fox might, and could pull an MP3.com and just pull the plug, leaving thousands (millions?) of bands without a web presence. There also plenty of people who only communicate through myspace, and so when myspace goes, all communication ends, and they lose those friends. These kids who think they have the right to post whatever they want are sadly misinformed, but they are 12 years old (claiming to be 18 of course), so we can't blaim them for their naivety.

  6. Re:This is interesting... on Miyamoto Hints At Second Revolution Secret · · Score: 1

The hype is that we are talking about it at all. What surprises are in store for the PS3? Better graphics? Better sound? Been there. Done that. If it's like the Xbox 360 then there will be no surprises at all. Okay, maybe there was some new fancy antialiasing when playing old Xbox games. Pardon me if I don't blow a load in my shorts.

There is anticipation with the Revolution. HOW will it change gaming forever?

Find out what else gamers want and provide it all in one place. For instance, anime (DVDs, toys, T-shirts)? Maybe comics(comic books, toys, posters, graphic novels)? Other assorted Japanese type items (t-shirts, accesories, stickers). Card games, Pokemon, etc. Collectible toys like McFarlane figures or maybe old Transformers or Robotech stuff. What are gamers interested in? Do they like a certain type of music? Have a local band perform in store once a month.

  10. Good for HD fans on FCC Report Supports a la Carte TV Pricing · · Score: 2, Informative

This will give people like me the option of only paying for the channels that are in HD. Right now, with Brighthouse in Florida, in order to get the 10 channel "HD Pack" I have to subscribe to 200 crappy-looking "digital" channels that I never, ever watch. Technically, I should be able to subscribe to only the major networks HD channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) but they repeatedly say I can't do it without purchasing the entire digital tier.
If people only subscribed to HD channels it would give the other networks some incentive to switch to HD.

Well, if you can't trust her opinion to be fair and unbiased, who can you trust? The article linked has opinions from three people. Two negative, one positive, and the positive works for Microsoft.

  12. Silly plot. Don't take it seriously. on Salon On The Anti-Gaming CSI Episode · · Score: 2, Insightful

Wow. It looks like somebody is taking the show too seriously. A crime show always makes "somebody" look like satan. One time is was a housewife, once a judge, a few times a lawyer was the criminal, sometimes it's a child, a delivery man, postal worker, convenience store clerk, whatever. I watched that episode (as a game fan), and I thought, "they sure made COLLEGE KIDS look like low self esteem morons". The opinion on Salon is flat out wrong. Gamers in general were never presented in a negative light. To call the episode anti-gaming is quite naive, and is like calling every other CSI:Miami episode anti-boating (because it seems people always seem to get killed on or around boats) or anti-beach (for the same reason), or anti-college student (for the same reason). I think it's irresponsible to call it anti-gaming. The producers of CSI know who their audience is, and guess what...it's gamers...guys who like action and enjoy movies like The Rock and Armageddon.

  15. bad new for Madden fans... on First Xbox 360 Reviews Hitting the Web · · Score: 2, Insightful

I was excited to read the review. I couldn't wait to hear what EA added. What extra features did they give to add value to the inevitible $60 price tag?
WTF! They left out instant replay?!?! They cut out the mini-camp?!?! They trimmed down the defensive audibles?!?!
I have to say I'm quite disappointed. Realistically, though, EA had to fit all those fancy shmancy graphics on a regular "old" sized DVD, and I think the game suffered because of it. Hopefully MS can switch to a "next gen" DVD format soon, or we might be seeing scaled back games in the future. In my opinion this game should have a lower price tag at launch. For one, it's less "game" than the other versions, and two it's halfway through the NFL season.

  16. Their first big mistake on Xbox 360 Backward Compatibility Finalized · · Score: 3, Insightful

Here it is. Microsofts first huge mistake. If they were only selling one version of the 360 at launch it wouldn't be a problem, but since the "CORE" package will not be backwards compatible with anything, we're are going to have a lot of unhappy people on Christmast morning when their old Xbox games don't work. This is a disaster in the making.
Now they have to market it as two different versions of the 360, the backwards compatible version and the not backwards compatible version. Considering the CORE system was to be marketed towards casual gamers, it is these same casual gamers who don't want to spend $60 a pop on brand new games on launch day.
Are they trying to make the CORE system obsolete before launch? They can't be a wise idea, especialy since price is king at Chrismas time.

After that, he got plenty of job offers from some of the biggest names in the technology business. I talked to him over lunch today and asked if he wanted to work at those other companies. "Not really," he replied in a typical minimalist Scandinavian-style reply, forcing me to ask why not. "I want to work on open systems, which is why I came to you."

Well to that I say, he's a successful writer and lawyer who is getting his material published for Slashdot to read. It sounded like they designed the "core" version for casual gamers. Well it's the casual gamers who want to play their older games. This was a strange decision indeed. The "core" PS3 will be backwards compatible. The "core" Revo will be backwards compatible (as in way backwards). I think we may have discovered the proverbial nail in the coffin.
