USB keys are just too dang handy and hold alot more data. I'm amazed that the ole 3.5 disk is still around. At least that is better than the super old 8 inch disks I used so long ago.

You're full of it. Experience is the the key to finding a job. You can still command a decent salary too if you've to the hands on knowledge to back it up. Every job I've had has been higher paying than the one before it. Even when I got laid off from a Telco back in early 2002 I still kept my head above water for 6 months doing small contract jobs or selling laptops that I had refurbished. I did all that without one damn cert or a CS degree. I'm going to college now, at 32, but I'm not majoring in CS. I'm majoring in Business.

I was stationed at Camp Zama Japan with the helicopter unit there. We had to fly up to Hokaido for a week in the dead of winter. It was -5F and I ended up having to replace the main rotor hub for a UH-1H. THAT was the most awful job I've ever had to do. It was worse than replacing the main mod for a UH-60 in the middle of a snake infested rice patty down near Hiroshima.

  19. Re:Good on Star Trek: Enterprise in Danger of Being Cancelled · · Score: 2, Insightful

You're right. Star Trek as we know and loved it died when Gene did IMO. Let the franchise rest in books and comic for a decade or so, then they can revisit it.

I would much rather see Farscape or more of the Battlestar Galactica genre. How about SciFi based on today? Getting to the Moon and Mars. Perhaps that could help increase public interest in such projects in real life.

  21. Re:It's a bandaid on Space Shuttle to be Outfitted with New Sensors · · Score: 2, Insightful

We don't need to spend a fortune on a new HLV like the Saturn V. We could just go with a somewhat reusable Shuttle C (which is being looked into again) and have a huge launch capacity. I was all for a winged OSP until I started reading such great articles on capsules in space.com and other websites. You can still have a ground landing, reusable capsule that will reduce the cost of just getting people into orbit. Beyond that, a previous poster is absolutely correct. We need a destination. We need to stop just going in circles in LEO. The Moon is there, we just have to go (and of course spend the money).

I was completely pissed with SciFi for the cancelling of FarScape and the friggin cliffhanger they left us with. However, I think I can slowly bring myself to forgive them if the new BSG is made into a regular series.
