Origin would have been still around if EA didn't buy them, only they wouldn't have had the backing to make UO as soon as they did, if at all. U9 would have been a lot better without people being pulled off of it for UO, and EA rushing it out the door.
What would be nice is if someone would just release a game like Shadowrun that has adult content mixed in. Run around nekad, you get blasted. Have sex in public, you will get blasted. Having the ability to take your avatars to the next step makes everything more exciting. Maybe even have major NPCs that you can finally 'do' after completing difficult quests. There is a huge mid-range between this sex/chat game and the games we play today. As they mentioned in TFA, legal bills are mounting as high as the development bills, and this really is a shame and shows how muted we are when it comes to creating anything these days. Even WoW has not one, but TWO aggreements you have to agree to before playing.
I just hope they explain what the 'weapons' were. I will definatly buy it since I loaned it to a friend before reading it (hope you are reading this Glenn), and never got to finish it.
Since Live is a way for them to determine if the box is hacked, and you can't play hacked games on Live, they should just go ahead and make Live free. It is so cheap already, it would definatly increase sales if people could play on the internet out of the box. They could then save money on R&D for researching hack-proofs that as everyone know will get crached anyways.
And people wonder why they are single...
You seriously bring up an important point. People like this are not single because they love games and are nerds. They are single because they don't have any social skills. This seems to be the opposite of the crowds found at Anime conventions where everyone seems to be extreme extroverts, which makes for a better convention experience.
"We're faster than the others, you'll be hooked on the brothers! UGH!"
I was in 8th grade when these were on. Used to watch them and the Turtles toons. I would just watch the Lou Albano parts (was a big Houston wrestling fanatic, and he 'managed' a wrestler at some point), then switched channels.
Anyone have any ideas what a Star Trek MMOG could be like? The series is mostly based on story and plot lines. This contradicts what MMOGs are mostly, which is the treadmills. Sure they all have small quests, and background stories, but nothing epic like a single player RPG has to offer. I am still interested in how it turns out since the Star Trek universe is pretty expansive.
I was half joking, and erased half my message, but in response to your message.. man..to be banned from a pawn shop...your friend's life must be in ruin;)
Worry about multiple cartridge slots?! Don't make me laugh. Nintendo did produce the GBA adabptor for the Cube, and GB adabptor for the SNES. They can make what the they want, and what will benifit them. Can full size auto feed disk systems, like the revolution will have, even handle mini-disks?! If the revolution handles cube games, it will be a first for nintendo. Just because they say it now, does not mean it will be true. Even PS2 does not fully support PS1 mem cards. I have many games, like Symphony of the Night, that have to be saved on PS1 cards. If it happens, I will be happy, of course. One less console on my switch. Don't forget that Nintendo has not even made an official launch statement. As 'till now, it is all hype to keep you from buying the competition..which is SALES.
The word 'Game' pretty much means it is Finite. The only way a game is not finite is if it is random. Even then, you will see paterns because the budget is too small and the workers are lacking sleep.
This is what you do.. if you see someone about to enter a game store with their arms full of consoles and games, just tell them you will give them $10 more than what the game store offers. You will get the best deal in town. I have seen people sell stacks of games and movies for $30 or less.
Nintendo was smart. They never even bothered with backward compatibility. No mem stick problems, no complaining. As that Korean guy said to me at the Korean market when I tried to return some bad frozen fish I bought there, "You no complain!" (true story)
Worry not about patents.. make your inventions, then money. Patent fights will come later. Use your money to fight a little, pay a little, and still make profit. Those who worry about patents make nothing, and make nothing.
Everyone here is missing the point. The big battle is between Blue Ray and HD-DVD. MS seems to be choosing HD-DVD, which is opposite Sony's Blue Ray. I guess few of you know that DVD came out about five years after its conception. Those years were brought about fighting between standards. I was hoping Sony would win, but now MS has gone AGAINST Sony.
Over the years, Sony has slowly released better APIs allowing developers more direct access to the hardware. At the beginning they were really stingy. God of War really shows off the system and gave me faith even though I thought the PS2 was dead. Then again, GOW was created by a Sony team, so I am sure they really have the inside APIs to hit the hardware hard. Perhaps Namco made deal with Sony.
I usually don't say this...but...that really sucks. I mean..I see effort..and an 'idea' there...and effort..energy used to make the system..but..it sucks. When someone came up with this idea, if only a friend came to them and said 'Hey, that is pretty lame', then money and energy would have been saved. But! I still give a little credit because they did it, and it looks like it works. However, it still sucks.
I guess the PSP version will be the same thing as just turning down some settings on the PC version. This usually just means automatically using low poly LOD objects and textures. The best part of online games is that the client software is nothing more than a representation of the data. How it looks has no impact on how the data is manipulated on the server. I am really excited about seeing a console/pc/handheld union.
What has also happened to me several times is getting a project lead who doesn't mind working 100 hours a week, and changes things back and forth constantly. To the boss' eyes, he is a hard worker because he works so long, and it becomes a game every night to see if I can get out the door before he decides to switch something back.
While 'in the books' the design of a project should be done far before release is near, even if you are doing iterative development. However, many MANY companies still like to design as they go. It is not the developers fault most of the time since many companies create software for clients who know nothing about making software and add change requests, or sneak changes in by claiming the developers mis-interpreted the specs they gave them. Added to this are ambitious managers/developers who want to change a feature at the last second after seeing that their own original design is crap even though we told them from the beginning. All of this is what makes crunch mode. Changed specs with a static deadline.
There are many MANY professions that are overworked and underpaid, but since we are on the subject of programmers, I will concentrate on us. I have worked for many companies, in the US and in Tokyo. Everything breaks down into Employer, Employee and Contractor. Employer gets the profits. Employees get a paycheck. Contractors generally get a bigger paycheck. The farce is that people believe that Employees have better job security than Contractors, but job security doesn't exist anymore. Game companies are Contractors. Almost all are bought out or hired by Employers like EA, who get the profits, and are let go when the job is done. Others that are independent have been going under waiting for the next big contract, or license. Unfortunately, game companies are NOT treated like contractors, and paid like Employees. This is the problem, especially since large groups of people work on the same project, and finish at the same time, versus a 'normal' working job, in which projects are scattered about, ending at different times. Because of all of this, I understand the complaints of game programmers. Even though I would love to work for a game company, I understand they work long hours, and get paid crap, so I choose not to work for one.

I was looking through their screen shots of SOTN, and found this... http://www.1up.com/do/slideshow?pager.offset=4&mt= 0&cId=2016823&mId=1053111/
Either I don't remember that, or someone screwed up.

I would mod up the parent if I had the points.

What is the deal with old women and hot coffee? In the end, they always end up sueing someone when the two come together.

When is the nude patch coming out for this?
